Not so far, typical Flus, they are never ready to play.
Drafted the wrong QB...........again - vabeachbear
While they were playing the Panthers today, this one didn't age particularly well. Williams had a really good day and bum slayed a team he should have. He's had 2 300 yard passing games in his first five games and just seems to be getting a little better every week. |

So you don't think the Blackhawks will assign him to Rockford? - BetweenTheDots
Depends how long Kaiser is out, and is Martinez good to go for the start the season.
Right now they have a 22 man roster with Kaiser on IR and only 6 healthy defenseman.
Hawks sent everyone else back down to Rockford, sinIMO either Phillips stays or the Hawks have another transaction coming.
I can’t see them going on an opening 4 game road trip with only6 D on the roster. |

The wrong QB drafted recently and somewhat surprisingly has performed well - for the Pittsburgh Steelers
Our current rookie QB is a higher draft and has more upside at least in his passing game.
Yet Bears do seem bedeviled often by poor trades, poor play calling but not yet going to say C Williams was a mistake. Consensus choice to (was) choosen first overall - jhawk59
The Steelers started with a soft schedule. Let’s wait until December to throw praise at QB’s. |

Would be interesting what the Pittsburgh media says about their hope for Fields. But you are correct; wait and see how he does against tougher defense. AND I will just add.....whether he has stayed consistent or just average yet good enough to win. I doubt he was going to grow in Chicago. Remembering he needed work looking off passing targets as he received criticism how he had not improved hardly in this area since drafted |

Phillips on waivers
If claimed or sent down, roster at 22, as everyone else assigned to Rockford previously is still assigned - LAHawk
Interesting, indeed. Phillips being sent down gleans a few things on how KD and the organIzation is gonna operate with guys with a legit shot of being an NHLer that I'm not smart enough to figure out. Gonna be a lotta Phillips' coming thru for KD and the organIzation to evaluate, slot and keep or cut loose.
Posted a couple days ago that I had the young Dmen, not counting Del Mastro cuz no doubt he''l go down, ranked this preseason as Crevier, Allan, Phillips. ........ How much was the decision to waive Phillips was based on this preseason or last yr in RKF or the whole body of work/development.
I'm a Phillips guy but this preseason, unless I missed it, he's taking a lotta bad angles on pucks and bodies possessing the puck. Bad angles are a problem for me, especially Dmen who have maybe 75-100 reads per game.. That extends opposition zone time and possession. And even Phillip's guys admit his decision making is that of a 3rd pair or 7th Dman the play he fed the slot off his own back wall last night was a real problem... In his defense he had two opponents battling him on the back wall and he did good but two mates were 8ft away watching. Some puck support and he never has the chance to make that dumb outlet into the slot.
Did Allan grab that top call up spot? Did he do enough to question whether Kaiser gets that 6th Dman spot? ..... Did Crevier move up in the pecking order as a RS?
Guess I'm not sure what this waiving of Phillips exactly means. But there should be plenty of local reporting on this tomorrow........ Love this part of the rebuild. Decisions made on actual prospective/fringe NHLers.

I'm really impressed with Caleb Williams, he's already learning to take what the defense is giving. Throws the ball away, slides and I've always hoped for QB who could run an NFL no huddle offense like Peyton did, there's no denying he looks really really really good at it. |

My thinking is that they don’t really want to lose him, but they are “chancing it” with so many guys on waivers and teams needing to be cap and roster compliant right now. |

Not following you, LA. If the Hawks don't have another transaction coming and it's Phillips they want on the big club why did they expose him to waivers? He was put on waivers, right?
What am I missing?

Yea Chunk, you're right about a flood of solid players, or at least reasonably solid players, players caught in a numbers game that are all hitting waivers at relatively the same time.
If you're a bad club you can get better or find a given up upon 1st/2nd rounder from the waiver wire right now.

Hi, Rico. Imo, they anticipate wanting to send him down within the next month, and decided to try to sneak him through with the crowd. Not sure why they anticipate such a move (because Allan can be sent down without waivers). |

I said if he isn’t claimed he would stay on the big club until Kaiser comes back, then he or Allen will be sent down.
If he is, they are down to 6 healthy defenseman, they probably have another transaction in their pocket.

Trying to sneak him thru now makes sense. Kinda can't wait until tomorrow to get some reporting and or quotes from management on Phillips. ....... Love that Allan, Crevier and even Del Mastro had good camps. The 3rd pairing type prospects are trudging ahead as they are properly being developed.
Even KK had a different look. A tad thicker and a bit more poised. With the time he'll get in RKF this yr he'll be very interesting to see in next yrs camp. Good chance we'll get a decent glimpse into what kinda player he will end up.

Ok LA, guess I'm having a gummie moment. Don't understand why a guy has to be sent down to be rostered on the big club....... I'll get some reporting on the deal tomorrow.

There will be trades or more surprising guys on waivers tomorrow so some teams can get cap compliant.
One of those teams is the Leafs - they have a $3M/yr problem in D man Liljegren who doesn't impress his new coach. Want him (I don't) but maybe the Leafs would cough up something good in a trade? The guy I would consider grabbing cheap is vet Philippe Myers as a #6 Dman - big and physical - cause you know Connor Murphy isnt playing 82 games. |

Rico if a player on waivers is unclaimed, he does not have to be sent Down. In fact if the Hawks do want to send him down if he is unclaimed, they have 30 days to do so. |

This makes a heck of a lot more sense than Phillips being placed on waivers. They sent KK, EDM, and others down, while Kaiser and Arty are out. Something is brewing out there. |

Have a spot to fill with a better option Maybe a kid isn’t ready. Need a RH dman? Justin (fills) the hole on your blueline
Or he is available anyway
Original Blackhawk too |

I know, I was using reverse pyschology early to see if it made a difference, and it did.
No, I don't mind that they drafted Williams over Daniels, they kind of needed to. It could be they both are very good.
People will always compare them, that's what happens when QBs go 1 and 2. The thing for me will always be if you're a Bears fan, you really have to look at it as Caleb vs. Daniels and 2 or 3 more additional 1sts, cause that's the story about what Washing ton was going to give up to get Caleb.
In the end, its too early to tell, but what would that trade for Bryce Young look like if you had made that trade, taken Daniels, and have an additional 3 first rounders over the next couple years.
