Well, at least we don't have to listen to Vosters. Just saw on Google that Panger had a hand in Vosters getting launched. |

Hawks have no one on the backend that can carry the puck out of the zone and facilitate offense.
Jones is pretty meh at it and loves turning the puck over.
Vlasic is pretty good when he decides to but he’s not out there to generate from the backend. |

Not the same they just recently have drafted more than one 1st round pick in 2 out of the last 4 years, before then pretty bleak. - BetweenTheDots

I don't buy that at all. They had a plan in place last year and then injuries happened laying waste to best or at the very least laid plans.
Not in KD's noggin but I don't believe for a minute he was going to run it back this year and then he had an epiphany when Foligno or some other disgruntled vet suggested there would be mutiny or whatever. - HawkintheD

Pang just sucks out loud. Brings nothing and his self deprecating schtick gets old in 5 minutes.
Besides that thought Allan and Phillips, especially Allan, felt no compunction about activating from the blueline. Good to see they have the go ahead to make a play if they see one.
Not counting Del Mastro I'd rank the young Dmen in the preseason: Crevier, Allan, Phillips. ....... Allan is showing he can play at pace, activate with pace, skating and keeping it simple enough with his hands at pace. All done as a Dman with size can skate and understands his role as a defensive Dman.
Not to pile on Bedard but in the post game Murray said, "you'd like to say Bedard looks like he's in yr 2 as a pro and looks like it but you can't". .... Lets see what happens in Utah but the club needs the kid who's getting all the prime minutes and sheltered starts to produce some offense.
I'm thinking Bedard is gonna love Levshunov. How often does he find the trailing Jones as the 4th forward in prime spots? If Artie can finish he'll be diggin Bedard.
Be interesting to see how LR lines em up Tuesday but on this night L4 of Maroon-Danato-Smith was by far their best line. |

I agree they called it the Red Wing way but it really was they actually weren't really good enough way.
I think KK spends a year tops in the AHL. Arty maybe the same time, we might be looking at a Vlasic, KK, Arty and Kaiser blue line next year

Hey fatty, I know generally speaking you don't see the value in the AHL others do and I generally lean towards giving em an extra yr down on the farm, your posts are helpful. ......
Hawk fans will have kids of consequence coming in waves for 3-4 yrs and we'll all have thoughts. Good to hear arguments both ways on prospects and the Hawks will provide plenty of them for us to hash over.

Hey Rico, your guy Marco Kaspar just missed a shorthanded breakaway for the natural hat trick. 2 goals so far in the first. - LAHawk
Oh yea, I very much like kids who are legit centerman, have good size, can skate, nose over the puck style with a floor of a top 1/3 3C. .....
And so does Stevie Y and that might get em into trouble. Can't have a team full of those guys but Stevie Y doesn't seem to care. ........ But, the Svede is a nice looking prospect.
Stevie needs a game breaker or two or else they'll be a slog it out club. |

For a couple guys still auditioning for an NHL job (in theory), Isaak Phillips and Nolan Allan were solid. Thru two periods, Natural Stat Trick had Allan on the ice for 6:33 of 5-on-5 during which the Blackhawks out-shot attempted the Wild 10-3. He was credited with one hit and one shot attempt in the first two periods.
Natural Stat Trick had Phillips on the ice for 6:34 of 5-on-5 during which the Blackhawks out-shot attempted the Wild 8-3. Phillips was credited with three shot attempts and one takeaway in the first two periods.

Pang seemed better with Vosters. Ball is WAYYYYYYYYYYY better than Vosters and knows he has to carry Panger.
Bedsy has looked "off" this preseason. I hope he can gear up in Utah. Saw him go 1 v 2 or 3 and cough up the puck the last couple of games. Better to dump it in the corner and chase it.
I hope he doesn't end up like Crosby where there were years where he didn't have wingers he could play with. If so, I hope we find our Kunitz earlier than later.

Thought this out, my issue with the way Chicago does the push em back PP zone entry (attempt) - is the back pass is soooo deep, and relatively slow, all it really seems to end up doing is allowing the opposing D to stand up at their own blue line pretty much every time.
Ok sure it does get some entries- but they are seem comparable to nearly a dump and chase. Not terribly dynamic (at least to me). |

But you have to consider what forward lines for each team were on the ice for Allen and Phillips shifts. Good observation by you but also consider whether one team had an advantage with a better forward group on the ice.
I remain skeptical on Phillips; I want to see or hear that he is making better decisions regularly. I like Allen it he probably could benefit from another season in the AHL

At the end of the broadcast Panger said Bedard has no chemistry with Bertuzzi and TT and that maybe they should revisit the Bedard Kurashev combination. I agree that the 1st line is not working.
Maybe Hall, Bedard, Kurashev? Or Hall, Bedard, Mikheyev?
Put TT and Bertuzzi on the 2nd line with AA? Reichel? Kurashev? Mikheyev?
Or something more radical like TT, Bertuzzi, and D!ckinson on the 2nd line?
Plenty of Options for the 3rd line with Foligno and Anderson.
Plenty of options for the 4th line too.

Am I the only person that thinks this is a terrible website from a technical standpoint. Having to reload. Getting knocked off. disruptions when typing a comment. Etc... Ugh! |

There are a lot of new players on this team. That could be an excuse for a lack of chemistry up and down the lineup. But they better find some chemistry soon.
I have liked what I have seen of Hall and Mikheyev. Smith and Donato are effective together. But right now the Hawks look like a bunch of individuals that are not working together.
Jones and Murphy have very limited vision of the ice (tunnel vision). They just do not create or contribute anything to the transition game. So all of the pressure is on the forwards to bring the puck out. Hopefully in Rockford they will develop those skills in the younger d-core. |

Well, that was ugly to say the least. When Donato ends up being your best forward, you know it’s going to be a long night. |

You might want to check their schedule in October. At best they will be 3-8 by October 31, and that includes 2 games vs the Sharks.
This is a bad hockey team in a tough division; will be out of the playoffs by Nov.15. |

The problem with those (and the current) Red Wings isn't that they called up guys too slow or too fast. The problem is that none of them were even close to elite; they were just good. The current Wings will have the same problem - a couple very good (not great so far) players do not a contender make.
The current Hawks have one guy who might be great, and a defenseman who is very good. To channel my inner Fatty, great players don't need much marination - their jump right off the screen as different than the rest. I've asked this before - who jumps off the screen as a "holy crap, that guy's gonna be great"? Maybe Frankie? They need more studs. Several more. |
