Stolarz was the steal of the off-season. He'll be amazing for us this year.

It is a risk but do they need him. Is he a 3rd liner?

Also, pre-season. He is playing for a spot or a trade against a lot of guys playing to not get hurt. We'll see where he is after 20 games on the 3rd line...

- Aetherial

And the guys he’s competing with are also playing against the same players. I’ve only watched bits and pieces but he’s been better than the guys he has to beat out for a spot. In the shifts I saw tonight he was working his ass off on both ends of the ice.

If he sucks 20 games in, deal with it then but for now it seems like he’s earned a spot.

I'm one of those clowns. He clearly wants out, he will not be back year, and he's playing really hot. Package him with Lilly to get rid of that cap hit and get a legit 3C.
- Whipper

Agreed.

He’s getting better minutes right now than he will in the regular season. Tonight is a great example he was on the tip line no? Definitely not 3rd line - which to me shows he’s probably got to play top 6 on a team to give and. He just isn’t going to get that in Toronto IMO.

It’s wild that we can say the Toronto Maple Leafs have some of the best goaltending depth in the league.

They obviously lack a star / stud starter but they have young guys with lots of potential.

If Woll pans out to be an average or better starter who can stay healthy this whole thing could work out white nicely.

He bagged 14 in 56 games last year ...playing 11 minutes a night with bottom 6 types. When healthy he's always outscored his contemporaries.

The truth is he's always been a very good offensive player. He'll bag 15, or 20, or more ...depending on whether he gets minutes and PP time and where he plays in the lineup.

Can he play both ends well enough ...that's the real question.

If some team puts a 1st or something good on the table ...sure, move him. If not ..we need him.

I don’t think the Leafs need him to be honest, sure the goals would be nice but is he even willing to stay after this year?

Could they just use a younger guy on an ELC etc?

I would trade him in a package with Lilly at this point.

Call me an idiot if you like but for comparison sake I think he could score at a rate similar to Caulfield. If he got 20 mins a night and PP 1 all year like Caulfield (career high 28 goals) it wouldn't be that outrageous. And Montreal fans are convinced he's a star. Robertson at league minimum is tremendous value. He's probably worth more to them this year than anything they'd get in a trade.

Nicky Bobby ain't going nowhere:

Craig Berube on Nick Robertson and how he’s performed in the opportunity so far:

“He’s been really good defensively, killing penalties, and also producing offensively with goals. His speed is great, and he’s got a fantastic shot. He’s using his skills well, moving his feet, and, again, he’s been responsible defensively, which is great to see.”

Leafs need depth scoring....specially in the playoffs. Berube seems to like Robertson as well.
But for the right deal, anyone is tradable.....trade anyone.

He got 14 goals and 27pts last year in 56 games. Thats with keefe redoing the lines almost every other change.
Give him consistent time on the 2nd, 3rd, pp lines, he pop in 20 or so. Imo.
I think patch wont play that often and after a while, he'll probably drop to the 3rd line.
Leafs need depth scoring and this kid is home growing. With a new coach and outlook i think he will want to stay

I don't think Willy did get a fair chance at Centre - having playing portions of 2 preseason games there. That said, I don't really think it's his position. There's too much responsibility and I think it takes him away from his game - which does involve cheating on the puck a little. The Centre shouldn't be doing that.

I think the things you gain by putting a player like Nylander at Centre are outweighed by the things you lose.

Cirelli for Robertson, straight up.

Tampa will retain 20%.

Cirelli and Marner would be 2/3rds of a tricky shutdown line or a dangerous PK duo.

The coach pumping a players tires (a player who asked to be traded to boot) is nothing new and doesn't mean jack imo. Berube isn't the GM, he doesn't decide who gets moved and who doesn't - sure they may ask his input but ultimately he doesn't decide.

I mean for all we know the plan from top down at this point is to go into full sales pitch mode about him in the media to get a better return on a trade.

Regardless it doesn't really matter all that much, the secondary scoring is nice and if they keep him so be it but I just hope if he stays he gets decent minutes and is at least average defensively.

He's looked much better defensively this off season so if he can keep that up it would be nice.

I'm still not convinced that moving him now isn't the best play (in a package with some of the other things the Leafs perhaps overpay for or have too much of and can move).

A fair chance? He got nothing close to a fair chance. Its ridiculous.
A fair chance would be at least the first month of the reg season.
Not saying he would be perfect, but he could play well at 2C, it would change the look of the leafs for the better imo.

Moving out robertson just to keep patch is such a bad move.
Berube isnt the gm and could just be pr stroking for the media....or hes not. Either way, hes the new long term expensive coach hand picked by Tre.....so he would have a lot say.

We'll see how things play out.

Looks like swayman wants 9.5m x 8.
I think he either signs a short term deal to cover rfa years at just under 8m per or 8 years at 8 - 9m per.
