It’s weird they aren’t reporting on something that didn’t happen. |

Goes to show the reality of climate change and how important survival preparedness really is. - DrunkenCanuck
We're about 20 miles inland as the crow flies and 62' feet above sea level (just checked again). Not worried about surge.
But, I do worry about flash flooding and hurricane force winds and tornadoes.
I have two generators, 40 gallons of reserve petrol (plus 20 in the truck), a ton of food/water, portable A/C, and about 20 major hurricanes under my belt. We'll be OK.
The beaches, barrier islands, keys, and low-lying areas are (frank)ED.
Tampa General Hospital and Davis Island will be (frank)ED.
Tampa and St. Pete aren't ready for this. You'd think they would be, but they're not. It's gonna get BAD if lands a direct hit up the bay. Think New Orleans during Katrina bad.

Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. I truly do not understand the lack of preparation nor the stigma associated with it.
You are well prepped and know what’s up. Good on ya.

I hope not either. Tampa hasn't had a direct hit in 100 years and the city has slacked bigtime on prep for it.
Personally, in our area, I'm most concerned about wind, and then the likely extended power outage afterwards.

I did not know that. They could be in for a world of hurt.
You seem to have a proper amount of supplies to wait out grid down. Hope you also have the right amount of brass to protect them and yourself.(Just in case) It’s one of the huge oversights I see in the Preparedness Community. |

I'm not gonna win any protracted firefights with the Lord Humongus and his crew, but I have enough firepower to overmatch any cracked out looters. We live in a quiet anonymous suburb and I know that a couple of other houses on my street are preppers or military. There is a decent amount of firepower on this block. If we band together, this neighborhood will be safe.
The city proper will be pretty bad though. Downtown and the surrounding tourist and industrial districts are either right on the water or on low ground. A big chunk of the city is going to flood out, like the 9th Ward did during Katrina - people stranded on roofs, etc.
I also have a canoe and four kayaks, but hopefully I don't need those.
People can read their own personal politics into the data, but as someone with a front row seat to the action, it certainly feels like these storms are more frequent and more intense. I also don't recall as many storms spinning up in the Gulf of Mexico and then rapidly intensifying to cat 4 or 5 and making landfall a few days later. The big storms came off of Africa and took a couple of weeks to build strength and wander their way across the Atlantic into the Gulf. Localized spin-ups like this were a lot less frequent.
I think Gulf Coast residents need to consider that this might be the new normal and multiple major landfalls might be an annual tradition now. I'd be looking to sell and get out if I lived on the waterfront or close to it. It's not worth it. And man, insurance rates are going to explode after this. It's going to price a lot of people out, even if they want to stay they won't be able to afford it. |

This is absolutely key.
Hats off Stone, for a very realistic and well thought out post by someone who is literally living it. If more people could be confident enough to put their biases and preconceived notions to the side and actually look at what is happening, maybe people could grasp that things are changing. We all need to adapt and soon.

Yikes. Came on looking for hockey talk - see some crazy ramblings about doomsday (that apparently is going on now? “Living it”).
Alert status red - but the sun comes up instead.
Anyhoo - They mentioned during game that Berube doesn’t like going over 20mins for forwards. If that’s the case I would play 34 for the full 2mins each PP. still eating him from regular 5v5 shifts (skating wise).
Also, Gaudette 4G in 4GP - one less goal than Robertson….some players light it up pre season and fade out as season gets serious |

Not one word was mentioned about doomsday. A simple conversation about current real events and what one might do to improve their standing in such an event.
Give your head a good shake, you might be able to dislodge it from your ass, which may allow you to see what’s happening around you.
But all in all- “I’m just here to talk hockey”

Agreed... Robbie won't score 100 goals ...but maybe he'll bag 20 or so like he was on pace for last year ...during the regular season. |

I don’t see him sticking around personally - I just don’t think he’s good enough for a top 6 role and can’t see him turning his game (or I guess based on these 5 games), keep up with the defensive or physical style needed in the L3/4….but the kid does have a beauty shot and has that finish you know. Just don’t see him rounding out his game consistently - or styling healthy!! |

(Kinda a back and forth I guess?)…I feel like you have been accused of thinking you’re the smartest guy in the room eh?
Informed about what? Climate change? Arming yourself to the teeth and panicking like a psycho and the benefits therein?
A. Climate change is very real.
B. Being prepared is one thing - being a wacko is another.
I’m calling you a creepy weirdo cause I feel you are. Not because I don’t understand the very simple concepts of climate change. I love when dudes like you inform yourself on a basic level about a very basic topic and if others don’t agree or don’t want to talk about thy topic - it somehow gives you that stroke that you’re of some heightened intellect. It’s usually political in nature too.
Climate change and awareness is taught in elementary school (which I’m assuming you can’t be within 100 meters of). Don’t kid yourself genius.
Have a good one bud.
Edit: forgot the emoji - the mark of a brilliant mind…

Yes. They teach climate change in schools. The purpose of the mention.
Oh I see what his did!! You are a genius! You turned my chirp - into your chirp! Bravo. I went there because I’ve seen your creepy posts before bud - you’re not fooling anyone.
….you seemed to get real rattled about it eh - must’ve hit home I guess. I suppose my read on your past posts being creepy were right.
Your ankle monitor still attached?
Let’s just say you win another debate and call it a night. Honestly, you gun toting crazies freak me out. So I’m out of this bud. Congrats on the big win. |

Yawn.
You go ahead and think whatever you like bud. Backpedal and twist words according to your narrative bud (Doomsday and Elementary School mentions are all yours)
You sure act tough for someone with skin as thin as a dollar store trash bag. At least after a couple years on here, you have learned how to communicate thoughts into words and then how to type them into somewhat coherent sentences. Because when you started, bud, you were one of the biggest simpletons to ever roll through.
Yep, ankle monitor is still there, bud. Way to stick to your guns on not getting into a back and forth, bud. |
