Could they not have finally have a hold out or a bad deal? Just once? - AdamFrench
We'll see what this Swayman deal looks like in two or three years. It might turn into a stinker. That contract has way more term than he has experience in the league.

25 years old. Even if he's just a starter it's a good deal. If he falls apart or can't play 50 games is the only way this is bad. I was hoping for 12mil and "re-setting" the goalie market.

It seems like that if Leafs want to sign Patches and Lorentz they’re going to have to move some $ out via trade. Rifai and Murray only guys put on waivers today and this is the last waiver opportunity before they need to be compliant. Myers and Timmins both on the team. I think the only other options would be to hold off on signing the PTO’s and push some more through waivers tomorrow or throw Hakanpaa onto LTIR.

I think they lose Rifai but not Murray - Canada Cup
In the immediate term, I think you see this (my guess is that they might do a bonus contract for Pacioretty if they sign him, putting the value at $1.1 or so but pushing $300k into next year's cap):
The above has a Cap hit of $90.34m with $2.65m on LTIR - providing a total cap hit of $87.69m (so about $30k in space).
Now both Dewar and Hakanpaa aren't going to be on LTIR for that long, so you're right that a decision has to be made - you drop Myers back to the AHL and activate Hakanpaa and you have a $700k deficit to work with; Dewar, when activated, would likely replace a Holmberg or Jarnkrok.
That's where it gets interesting - because they'd be $1m over the cap if they didn't trade Jarnkrok - it seems to me that they need to trade Jarnkrok.

Or Liljegren. Saves a bit more and I think they’d see Jarnkrok as more useful. They could with a D group of
Rielly
Tanev
McCabe
OEL
Benoit
Hakanpaa
Timmins/Myers
They could use LTIR to push things off or pull the trigger on a trade if there’s something there now.
