From MLHS:
"– It is very easy to be frustrated with Timothy Liljegren. He has had a lackluster preseason, which is disappointing, considering he signed a $3 million per year season and has a fresh start with a new coach. Robertson’s camp is what you’d like to see from a young player with new life under a different head coach. But it’s important to remember that Liljegren has won his minutes every year and has outscored opponents at 5v5 in his three full seasons. There’s a reasonable sample size of solid play, and it’s more likely that he is that player than this preseason version. Preseason often plays tricks on us.
– All of that said, he’s making a lot of money to be a fifth defenseman. If they fetch good value, it would make sense for a team with second, fifth, six, and seventh-round picks in the upcoming draft. With this depleted arsenal of draft capital, they can barely buy at the trade deadline. However, if they’re simply getting rid of his cap hit to fit in a combination of a fourth-line forward, a 36-year-old forward who is trying to come back from a bad injury, and a talented defenseman who hasn’t played more than 25 games in a season since the 2020-21 campaign, it could look bad by Christmas. This has to be a trade where you say, “Good return,” not, “They did this to make room for these other things.” |

Assuming Dewar and Hakanpaa on LTIR then they're in no rush to waive Myers (or trade anyone) until they get Lorentz and Patches signed (if they're doing that).
Once they come to terms with them they can waive Myers (or whomever).
All of that to say ...Myers being on the roster doesn't really mean a trade is 100%.

So I would say that similar to Nick Robertson in any trade, you'd want fair value for Liljegren. You're not dumping him. He's a valuable player in the right role on the right teams. He's not an elite top end defenseman, but you put it in perspective - he's better than Nick Jensen, who was traded with a 3rd for Chychrun.
Liljegren is 25 and he's still a good player and would be a definite boost to a lot of team's out there who could use a smoother skating defenseman who manages the puck well - but where does Liljegren fit in with the Leafs?
Rielly - Tanev is basically a lock.
You have a lot of discussion about reuniting Benoit - McCabe (+5 in 523 minutes which a good GA/60 of 1.84)
And then there's Oliver Ekman-Larsson whose similarities to Rielly make that a disturbing mix (Rielly and Lilly were -2 in 120 minutes; 2.51 GA/60). OEL and Lilly would be just be too easy to play against.
You could do Liljegren - McCabe; they were not awful last year @ +2 in 205 minutes with a GA/60 of 2.34 - but the problem is that McCabe and Benoit were better at shutting down harder opposition.
In comparison to how his partners and minutes fared, Liljegren was an exceptional bottom pairing defensemen (excelling with both Giordano and Edmundson), but a rather mediocre second-pairing defenseman - putting up minorly positive numbers with Brodie (@ +1 that's still no easy feat, mind you) and, as mentioned, McCabe.
Just optically the ideal partner for Liljegren would be a guy like Hakanpaa - which would be awesome if he weren't right-handed.
This feels like a repeat of last year when they signed Klingberg - if you want to get your defense to be tougher to play against then you need tougher defensmen and if that's what you want, you can't have Rielly, OEL and Liljegren in the same group of 6. |

The closest I can offer you is this:
Auston Matthews ($13.25m)
William Nylander ($11.5m)
John Tavares ($11m)
Mitchell Marner ($10.903m)
Max Domi ($3.75m)
David Kampf ($2.4m)
Calle Jarnkrok ($2.1m) -- LTIR
Ryan Reaves ($1.35m)
Bobby McMann ($1.35m)
Connor Dewar ($1.18m) -- LTIR
Matthew Knies ($0.925m)
Nicholas Robertson ($0.875m)
Pontus Holmberg ($0.8m)
Max Pacioretty (?$m) -- Unsigned
Steven Lorentz (?$m) -- Unsigned
Morgan Rielly ($7.5m)
Christopher Tanev ($4.5m)
Oliver Ekman-Larsson ($3.5m)
Timothy Liljegren ($3m)
Jake McCabe ($2m)
Jani Hakanpaa ($1.47m) -- LTIR
Simon Benoit ($1.35m)
Conor Timmins ($1.1m)
Dakota Mermis ($0.775m) -- LTIR
Philippe Myers ($0.775m)
Anthony Stolarz ($2.5m)
Joseph Woll ($0.767m)
That's filtered from Puckpedia. I like capwages, but they are still too slow to update their tables.

I agree with all of this. The wildcard is whether Berube can get more of Lilly than Keefe did. He has already called him out publicly this preseason, but I don't think he's played since that, so he has a short window while Hockeypaw is on LTIR and then they have to make a decision.
A lot of teams have similar problems right now with too many bodies, not enough spots, so a trade now would be tough to pull off. 10 games in, different story.

They got Jarnkrok wrong, he’s only listed “day to day” and that came out yesterday.
I’m curious tho, do they have to be cap compliant today or the day before the season? Which is tomorrow. I can’t seem to find a hard answer to that. A lot of sites state that most teams get it done a day before the regular season which for the leafs is tomorrow. Also does a player’s salary count against the cap while on waivers? Just looked at the Islanders on Puckpedia and Engvall isn’t showing or being included. |

Its official, we're stuck with patch.
I like the Lorentz signing. Him, Reaves and kampf looked decent on the 4th line.
Max Pacioretty (873,770)
Steven Lorentz ($775,000)
One-year deals for both
Webber gets a two year deal $825000 two way |

I feel like Lilejgren gets traded to Chicago.
Has had some success playing with Brodie.
Right age bracket and they sent down Korchinski so they need someone to lean on for that right side. |

Leafs are cap compliant by $1 with these moves after signing Pacioretty and Lorentz:
• Send down Cowan
• SOIR Minten ($76,562 against the cap)
• IR Dewar
• LTIR Jarnkrok, Hakanpaa, Mermis |

From puckpedia
With #LeafsForever signing Pacioretty & Lorentz, their opening roster looks to be $4,344,999 over cap for 23 players.
LTIR: Jarnkrok $2M, Hakanpaa $1.47M, Mermis $775K
IR: Dewar $1.18M, Minten SOIR $77K
They're $1 within optimal LTIR capture.
Can add $1.26M cap space by adding Dewar/Minten to LTIR
Edit: Opps sorry Gravy, didnt see your post |

From what I was seeing, teams must submit their final opening season rosters (which must be cap complaint) by 5pm EST today.
The time I saw cited was 3pm Mountain Time.
