Wahlstrom should never play in and lslanders uniform again (useless). Gauthier a better fit for the 4th line with his speed. Dobson stiil can't play D and our PK looks awful once again.

Tsyplakov was great. Other then that it looked all to familiar.

Defense still looks lost like they just started playing together. This team still struggles against fast teams.

rather they suck like this now than later but man what a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Agreed. PP went 1 for 6 and the PK went 0-2.
Overall I like Duclair and he scored which is a positive. It looked like his man, the trailer, in OT that scored. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Problem is Lou and ownership want to be a win now team and they are not capable of win now moves. Duclair and Tsyplakov are not enough.

Team now has 3 on the road. It was important to get two points last night. You do not always want to start slow.

Yeah Iā€™m not ready to say they canā€™t win now. Anything is possible. I get the frustration with the blown lead which led to an OT loss. I think this group has better hockey in them. Bottom line, you canā€™t give up 5 goals. Everything else will be the eb and flow of the season.

I meant winning a Cup. They can struggle to make the playoffs and lose in 1st round. It's one game, but we see the same troubling signs. Defense has not been the same since Leddy and Toews. Pelech and Pulock being older has not helped. Lack of overall speed is an issue as well.

I completely agree. The defense has been a weak spot since Leddy, Boychuk, Toews etc. I think true to isles form, they always seem to have guys that have upside and they hope said player exceeds expectations. I said a week or so ago that the backend lacks a weathered veteran (not named Pulock or Pelech). Shattenkirk was/is available and while itā€™s not the answer to blown leads, he has the experience and can play PP. I feel like they have put a heavy workload on Dobsons shoulders and maybe heā€™s not ready for that?
Still only one gameā€¦..I have faith

Team is in a tough spot because they are a mid-team. I like Patrick as a coach, but he does not have the horses. Team has to come to terms with a re-tool sooner rather than later.

First game so no big deal but I didnā€™t think Ducalir was all that impressive. He was late to the party on multiple plays imo.

Agreed. I hope the lazy bug isnā€™t why heā€™s hopped around. I remember when the Rangers drafted him, he was noticeable on the ice. I donā€™t think Roy is gonna be cool with lazy back checking

Maybe youā€™re right. Letā€™s see how the season shakes out. Plenty of hockey. What I do know is 5 goal against a night isnā€™t a winning recipe.

They have a pretty tough schedule the rest of the month until ANA/CBJ right around Halloween. Not going to lose it over one game but that just looked like a continuation of last season to me.

Kinda felt this way too. On the score sheet it looks like he had a great game, but he looked pretty low-effort a few times out there and fumbled a few plays. I get the feeling that's kind of the book on him so I'll get used to it, but I wasn't wowed by much. But if he can continue to produce, those other things become much less of an issue.

This is the thing chief. No question it's one game, but the same troubling signs before Patrick and a tough schedule the rest of the month does not help.

I think the top two lines should be able to do damage. 3rd and 4th lines could be an issue along with the defense.

On the bright side, I thought Tsyplakov looked really good. Goal or not. I thought Pageau had a pretty good game too.

Gauthier takes a shift with Cizikas and MacLean during their full-ice scrimmage-like drill. #Isles

Gotta wonder how short Wahlstrom's leash is going to be with Roy at this point

Iā€™m sure itā€™s a very short leash. Prob the kinda thing where Gauthier gets the start and if they win he stays.

Either way, the major problem the isles face is goals against. 5 goals against and the PK appears to be unburdened by what has been. Isles live and die with special teams.

The patient part of me says it's idiotic to take anything definitive away from a single game, and the first one at that. The reflexive part of me says this team is what it's been until it proves otherwise: The pre-game statements about the importance of coming out strong followed by a surprising lack of energy for much of the first 40 minutes, ineffective special teams, a catastrophic late-game breakdown that turns a sure two points into an OT loss...it was kind of like watching all of last season wrapped neatly into a single game.

Abysmal performance by Dobson down the line
- keaner17

He was dreadful and Barzal wasnā€™t much better. Those two need to pick it up and quick.
Roy was not a very happy camper at practice today.
