Oh and OEL if you’re going to go backhand side on a breakaway - you go to the net and finish the way Zary did last night in the Flames game… not lob a sorry weak wristed into the pads - |

It looked like he felt more under pressure than he actually was. Really precipitated his shot there.

They absolutely have to switch to OEL on PP1.
He's easily top 10 in goals among defenders the last 10/11 years.
He's not going to win the Norris or shut down McDavid. But he can score. They just have to use him correctly and the PP1 is definitely where he belongs. - Rare_Jewel
More importantly he is 4th in PP goals amongst active players (last 10 seasons), where as Reilly is at 42nd right after the offensive dynamo in Trouba and just before Severson. |

Still alive. No major damage to the house or property.
Even during the worst of the storm, I checked the scoreboard to be disappointed in the traditional Leafy way.
Tampa dodged the surge, but took a ton wind damage and flash flooding from record torrential rains.
Power is still out (might be for days), but cell towers are still working.
I'll be scarce while cleanup is going on. The yard and garden is a wreck.

Giving Hildebeast his 1st NHL action on the road on a B2B to a home opener to a team that just rolled Sabres and gets back 2 key D men and that is much much better than Habs seems… well frankly Very Leafy…
He’ll probably win… 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Where is Murray ?? Is he not at least an option - - dozerD10
Matt Murray spent all of last year out with surgery and recovery. Now I am not a professional anything, but as a pretty lousy ball player and hockey player who has had different injuries, I can say that even *I* end up adjusting the way my body approaches doing things to compensate for an injury (and to be clear any injuries I've had are less extensive than the ones which require a pro to have surgery!).
Matt Murray has been playing for 3-4 years with these injuries and its changed the way he moves and likely reads plays as a result - he needs to get back to where he was and move like he was if he wants to continue an NHL career because it was pretty clear that the way he's been doing things wasn't working.

Button is a moron, but the low confidence in woll's ability to stay healthy is real. He got injured in the last second of game 6 to miss game 7 and gets injured again just before game 1. For now, Im fine with Stolarz and the beast throwing shade between the pipes.
Time to get McMann back in the line up - Fakepartofme
Stolarz and the Beast - it's like a tag team of Doom in wrestling. "Thirteen feet of mayhem!"
If a game is going badly, Berube can pull Marner and put The Beast on the ice and then he and Stolarz and just run ramshod through the other team.
Brophy would've done it.

Watched the game last night. Leafs looked rusty and unpolished, the finish didn't seem to be there. I was impressed with a lot of the board/puck battles being won, and with the sustained pressure in the Habs end in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Montembault was lights out, Stolarz played really well also.
I was not impressed with Mitch Marner's play at all. To me he looks like the same old same old player. Can't stay on his feet, can't win battles, gets knocked off the puck too easily, and too many stupid pass attempts and giveaways. I've been a Marner fan back to his London Knights days but his shine has worn off for me. If there was anyone on this team who I thought should start the season on fire and wanting to prove something it's him.
I know there are salary cap and NMC implications, but if I was Tree I would be calling up the Rangers and trying to swing a deal centred around Marner for Shesterkin. Give them Woll and Liljegren as well. Try and get back a middle 6 winger to fill the gaps. |

I prefer Lilly to Timmins, but not when contract is factored in.
3 vs 1.1
I rather they just find someone better than both - senstroll
Haven't seen enough of Timmins to really have much opinion of him. Plus the D pairings were in a blender last night, so hard to gauge his play overall since we've had him.
Lilly is just average at everything, which can be looked at as a glass half-full/half-empty depending on the situation.
But I do think we need to get something for him, ideally picks, because he is an NHLer and his contract isn't insane or anything.
Plus he's still only 25: seems like he should be 30 for as long as he's been kicking around this team. |

I thought Marner looked ok, had a good couple of kills, made some plays, just weren't buried.
Holmberg was the stand-out forward for me; he looked good, hungry.

He certainly wasn't the worst player out on the ice, but I expect more out of him.
I actually thought the entire bottom 6 did a great job. Agreed on the Holmberg assessment, he just seemed to have trouble finishing - as did the rest of the team. Certainly not unexpected for the first game of the season.

I ate 11 cheeseburgers yesterday.
9 of them were sliders, but still. I learned my lesson. I'll do it again.
I like that Stolarz. I picked him up in fantasy hockey last year, and I won the championship. So did the Panthers. Coincidence? I don't think so. I think it's something more.

I attempted to behave with my dinner, kept it simple, just butterfly pork chops done with thyme and pepper but I had to cook 9 of those since I was lazy when I put them in the freezer after purchasing and didn’t separate them lol, a mushroom rice, some green beans, and my homemade chick pea salad.
Apparently me behaving worked out to 3 pork chops, large sides of rice and beans, and about 2 and half helpings of the salad. The toilet and I are close this morning, even my cat waited by the door at one point lol.
