Leafs got IMO BS calls against them last night. - dmnted
I'm still appalled at the call on Timmins. The call on Tavares to start was awfully weak, and really calling Benoit alone for something that Meier started and not letting himself be punched in the face? It was a pretty one-sided game in that officiating.
Even Nylander's - which was deserved - could easily have been an accompanying diving penalty on Hughes.
Let's hope it evens out.

I can't remember who it was (I was at an event, so wasn't watching closely), but they called a penalty on a Leaf, when it clearly should have been coincidentals.
It was puzzling. |

He's skating with the team, so my guess is they'll activate him in November. - Atomic Wedgie
Yeah it’s what I’m thinking too however I also wouldn’t be surprised if he was simply a gamble.
I hope he plays, be nice to see the guy be able to restart his NHL play. |

I think Dewar is basically a younger slightly cheaper version of the Yarn Crook. Can line up all forward positions, has some jam, can skate, can play PK, etc.
I'd give the edge to Jarnkrok for being able to play up in the lineup, but that's just because I've seen it and it's been fine and haven't seen Dewar do the same thing.
I think one of the two needs to go. - gravyface
I think Jarnkrok, when he was at his best, was better than Dewar will be. I don't think Jarnkrok, at 33, is at that level of play anymore. He's still a decent penalty killer and a decent defensive winger . . .
If you look at the metrics around penalty killing, no forward allowed more goals against/60 than Dewar last year! But his overall play and the opportunities against weren't very high, so he did a decent job at suppression. Jarnkrok had quite a few shots against as a PK'er, but fewer high danger ones.
Honestly for what they did and what they can do, Dewar is probably interchangeable as a bottom-6 option. As a guy who could (but shouldn't) slot in the 2nd line, Jarnkrok can probably do that, but Dewar couldn't.
If someone were to ask me to make a decision and I were a Leaf coach, I'd want numbers on puck battles won/lost because the line between these two is pretty close and that extra $920k if you select Dewar is useful.

Because nobody is offering what Tre thinks he’s worth is my guess. So they’ll hold on until at least the end of October and see if a team gets an injured PMD they desperately want to replace. It’s a guess but it’s where I think the leafs stand with him. - Dozzer
Yeah but it still feels weird not to play your $3,000,000 guy you'd like to trade. Not playing him isn't increasing his value. It might increase Timmins value playing though.
Is it strictly because they can they will? Until they are forced to make a move and then watch it'll be like a Kampf trade
At any rate, they have some time (but it's closing with each passing day) and more important, is it a cap dump for a middle pick or is it a bigger move? if it's a bigger move, what are they trading for? A 2C? |

That was likely Benoit.
Meier threw a solid hit at Knies - clean - and Benoit skated over - but wasn't the first to engage - Meier got his hands up into Benoit's face and then Benoit protected and responded and they only sent off Benoit. That was one of the decisions that made yesterday's game feel even more "game managed".

Weird sure but also not really. If the new coach doesn’t like him and they consider themselves contenders anyone can get sat.
Also Friedman has said Tre is trying to move him but all that’s being offered is a couple late round pics hence why he hasn’t gone yet.
And the people who want to move Kampf can’t seem to count the leafs still only have 3 proven Cs and he’s one of them. I’m also not minding tho with how good the 4th line has been looking so far. He also meets 4th line pay, average is $2.1 mill and the “talented” are roughly $2.6. |

To be fair I’m still not entirely sold Hakanpaa gets back. Hence why the contract was shortened, etc. The leafs are a team who can afford to keep him on LTIR easily if he never reaches NHL skill again. Essentially it’s a non cap hit gamble Rogers can more than afford.
But like you said, we’ll see in the future because who knows? - Dozzer
We can rebuild him, we have the technology.

Never too early.
Also, he looks pretty good when he's heavy on the forecheck, he creates a lot of space. |

I think this is a desperate argument tbh. Maybe they are trying to move Timmins but if Liljegren was the meant to be 6th/7th guy he’s still overpaid and he would have at least gotten to play in the season opener if that didn’t matter.
Liljegren simply isn’t a Tre/Berube style D man either. They like them big, physical, and never the type to gamble defence on an offensive chance.
As I said that is what it seems like so far, but it’s a guess on my part all the way. - Dozzer
I'm just spitballin. Because if Friedman is correct and Tre is trying to move Lilly, it'll be really hard to get a team to bite on a freshly resigned $3M player that can't even crack his current teams lineup.

No, he will not hockey consistently. Unless you mean being on the ice wearing a hockey uniform while the other teams shoots the puck into our net. In that sense, he will hockey consistently. - Zezel

Yeah I don't like the Reaves signing, or really most of the signings last year were pretty barfy. Reaves, Klingberg, Derpluzzi...

I was mentioning Kampf just as an out of left field move, not that I want or think he will be moved.
Wasn't aware of what Friedman said but Whipper would be right. You can't really get more when you're not even letting him crack the top 6.

I want to believe it, my own knee popped yesterday heavily yesterday and it’s still stiff and sore
But I think it’s getting better
Hurt it in July and have had to wear a brace ever since, popped damn near daily and locked up. Doctor had x rays done which were clear tho, and after yesterday’s pop, which hurt like hell, I have a stiff knee that has popped a couple more times and it’s still stiff, but it’s getting stronger and I’m getting away with not wearing the brace (atm at least)
I’ll wish him the same thing all the way! |

Tre's hands were pretty tied last year, but this year he's been cookin! Stollarz, Lorenz, Tanev all brilliant. OEL is playing better than I expected. Hak TBD.

I don’t really call it “letting him”.
The coach draws the lines and either you meet them or do not. Also, if they’re looking to move him would you feel comfy playing a guy with an injury history like him?
Once again I’m not saying this is what’s going on, just how I find myself mostly seeing it. You could be right and it’s nothing more than him being sat to sell another. |

They won't even bat an eye to grab a guy on waiver and send him down the next day hoping you won't bring him back.

You don't think the GM has some say in who plays, particularly when a team needs to make some moves to be cap compliant? I'm no expert on the inner workings of an NHL team, but I don't think a coach has more decision making power than the GM in a situation like this. Which is why I'm confused as to why Lilly isn't playing, (assuming Friedman is correct that they're trying to move him). |

I get what you’re saying but I also believe that sometimes a GM just has to let the coach coach. Accept that adapting as the GM is sometimes the way to go.
In Toronto I can honestly believe it has gotten to ownership saying “do whatever the (frank) you need to do, we don’t give a rat’s ass about money anymore.” Which gives the leafs the ability to do whatever they choose. Maybe all they’re thinking is to hold onto him until they need the cap space to get someone off the LTIR at which point they give him away for “future considerations” lol |
