Zamula was below par in both Vancouver and Calgary ...I'm OK with Zamula out because he flat out did not play well enough the first two games. - bmeltzer
Torts ran Z out there 19min in both games, so seems like he's either letting the kid play thru his struggles or he hasn't noticed him struggling at all. |

Common sense. Going on the road, knowing that Seeler was injured and not ready to play. Taking 14 forwards and only 6 D, is not being prepared.
Should I link to the post you made recently stating that calling up a player such as Andrae would " not be easy"? - MJL
The one thing that seems to lack when some of the roster/lineup decisions are made.

I’m not going to lie. My opinion of Farabee is, he seems to have started off strong in each game and slowly faded away. That isn’t say he deserves to be scratched. He has points in both of each games. - roenick97
I don't think he's on healthy scratch watch. Didn't practice. So either Deslauriers was a place holder today with Laughton bumped to LW2 or that's the line assignments tomorrow because Farabee can't go for some reason.

I wonder if he has noticed Johnson and Drysdale's struggles. Fortunately for the Flyers, Sanheim and York have been very good so far through two games and Ristolainen is serviceable.

I'm OK with Johnson out in Edmonton, especially given that Zamula is far more mobile. I'm OK with Zamula out because he flat out did not play well enough the first two games. Either which way, it's a spot of concern in the lineup, knowing that the weakest link tends to get exposed by better opponents. - bmeltzer
The Flyers outsmarted everyone and went with option C. Sit Andrae.

I liked Cates in the lineup against Calgary the other night. I would rather see Luchanko in there also as the 3C, thus assuming Frost can play and is not injured, I think Peohling has to sit. He has had a poor start to this season. |

Would you be opposed to trying to make a trade for a d partner to pair with Drysdale who can be part of the future. In similar fashion to NYR getting Trouba a little before they took off.

Per Charlie, the lines today are (note Poehling as the likely scratch, along with Andrae)
Tippett - Frost - Michkov
Konecny - Luchanko - Foerster
Laughton - Couturier - Brink
Deslauriers - Cates - Hathaway
York - Sanheim
Johnson - Drysdale
Zamula - Ristolainen
Andrae "paired" with Poehling for reps purposes. Not sure about why Laughton subbed for Farabee and Deslauriers moved into Laughton's spot.
- bmeltzer
I really believe the Flyers have to find a way to get Andrae in the lineup. I really think Andrae is not in the lineup because of his size and if that's the case, they might as well trade him now. If it were me I would sit Zamula for Andrae for now, but eventually got to find a way to sit EJ, especially as the season goes along. Would also like to see Michkov with Foerster.

That is not happening considering it was one of the reasons they passed on Bium.

Yes, I would be. For the reason that they won't be able to get the player they need.

The vision is still to look to the 2025 and 2026 draft. You need to get one of the impact forwards, possibly center, at the top of the draft.
2025 has centers Hagens, Frondell, Ryabkin and McQueen. Also top wings in Martone and Misa.
2026 has McKenna as well as some other skilled centers.
No matter what happens they still need to realize they are not close.

Some observations...
1. 2 games in and the Flyers already need a rest!?
2. EJ is not a 7th defenseman on the Flyers. He will be a mainstay as they continue to destroy Andrae's development. Tortoella loves his vet-tran presence
3. ND will also become a mainstay because look how good we have done with him the last 2 years - no one get hurt and we win |

Well he just signed an extension so we could assume he would either play poorly a=or get injured |

I saw TOR might be looking to move Timothy Liljegren. Not sure he is an exact fit but a right shot defender and good skater and solid size. 3mil a year with 2 years left. only 25 i believe.
Funny thing i thought about was bringing back Provorov. He is only 27 but he could be a guy you could play in your top 4 and he'll be a FA after this season. Not sure he is getting another deal higher then the one he last signed.

What are the Flyers giving up? Why bring back Provorov? Seeler is going to play eventually.

Cates and Luchanko need to be playing if they're on the roster, period.
It's (frank)ed up that either of them would have to sit for Laughts, who is barely touching the ice at ES or Poehls who just isn't good. |

Is Seeler your top 4 with Drysdale? If that's the case then no I am not making a trade unless you can move out Ristolainen and push Seeler into a 3rd pairing role.
Yes, It would depend on what you need to give up. I don't see those two would cost a lot but I could be wrong.
Actually thinking about it, with Provorov a UFA, then he is more useful to CBJ as a TDL move.

Provorov and the Flyers burned that bridge, it ain't happening.
Liljegren would be a nice add if TO were interested in a hockey trade for Cates or Laughts. Flyers need more decent right shot D options and TL still has substantial upside. |

Why not give the fowards a chance to play together for more that a few minutes before reshuffling? |

Torts characterizes Joel Farabee's absence from the skate as a "maintenance day," but wasn't sure if he'll be good to go for tomorrow's game.
After he misses tomorrow’s game he’ll be day to day. End of week IR designation. Funeral scheduled by the weekend.

In GM mode in capwages I made a trade with Buffalo,
Farabee/Hathaway
for
Rosen & unprotected 24 1st pick
Hoping I am close, I like Farabee but he plays like Kevin Hayes (when he wants to) and if the puck isn't close he coasts way too much. He has good skills but only uses them sparingly. Buffalo is looking for a down low player that's why i included Hathaway. |
