Honestly doesn't seem like Drurys style. He has played everything tight to the chest so to purposely leak this would undermine how he's been GMing - MeltingPlastic
Not to mention that it's hard to see the news getting out actually helping Drury's position. If Igor's camp is playing hardball about him being the highest paid on the team, I don't see them feeling embarrassed by the public scrutiny and relenting. |

We dont know who started the Trouba fiasco but Im thinking this is along the same lines.
I think turning down an offer of 88 mil and saying you want to be the highest paid player on the team is a bit embarrassing. |

Why is it embarrassing that the team's best player wants to also be the team's highest paid player? It makes sense to me. If I were Igor I'd want the same thing. |

He's going to sign and whether it's for $11m or $12m it won't REALLY matter too much in the end. $1m is not make or break. If a $12m contract becomes burdensome an $11m one would be as well. Obviously the lower the better, but it'll get done and we will move on. Trouba's $8m coming off will make this easier to stomach
Spread that $1m out over Laf, Kakko, Miller, Cuylle's new contracts |

Thing is...He may get less money overall now. I'll fork over $12M or a touch more per, but I am not going over 5 years. I have a tough time paying someone 37 or older that much $$$.

Agreed. The people that think he's overpaid at $12M will think he's overpaid at $11M also so he might as well go for the extra million. |

Hard to tell how much of that was him vs the team declining as well. He was still at minimum serviceable. And in 6 years the cap should be much higher |

I can't see the Rangers offering $11 x 8, him saying he wants more money and the Rangers chopping 3 years off the offer. He's still gonna get 8 years.
Ideally they structure it where it is not all bonuses and buyout proof. If we can get prime Igor for 5-6 years of the 8 year deal, that's a win. $12M in 5-6 years is going to be a bargain if his game doesn't completely fall off a cliff.
When comparing to Hank, keep in mind that by Hank's 29 y/o season, he had started 406 games. Igor has played 216 NHL games and 25 AHL games.
Igor has way less miles on him. |

He's got all the leverage, so he's definitely getting 8 years. I don't think that is, or ever was, in question.
Like all 8 year UFA contracts, the hope is that the first 4-6 years of the contract justify the last few. |

3 years from now 12 million for Igor won’t be as bad since the cap should continue to grow. It may be tight for a year or 2. But he’s worth it |

Maybe I am not remembering exactly what it was like. But, a lot of Hank being bought out had to do with us having a KHL all-star waiting in the wings, no? If we didn't have Igor as our next option, would he even have been bought out? Henrik declined, but not so much that he wasn't still a viable NHL starter. |

Igor is the best goalie in the world and he’s going to get paid like it. If we had the option of having someone like oettinger at that cap hit of course that would be awesome. But we don’t/wont. Its a very expensive Igor or whoever we can sign or trade for |

Igor is arguably the best goalie in the league. But is he $4m better than all of these goalies? In reality $11m seems fair. Igor really pushing to be overpaid compared to the market when looking at it that way |

Everyone is scrambling to get their goalies under contract before Shesterkin bends over every GM in the league when he ends up with a whopper of a contract |

He's not worth more than 11 imo. Not the way stanley cup winning teams are constructed, at least. And for everyone in the media pointing to 10 million Bob winning it last year, just remember that Stuart Skinner was 1 goal away from winning the cup and that 10 mil goalie suffering the most epic choke job of all time. That said, he will still get paid more than he should get paid, because leverage. |

Thats part of the argument. I know the rangers have to and will pay him, but why does he think he is worth $2-$4m more than the next player? I guess leverage and UFA status.

I am not convinced Igor wants to test the UFA market and not be with the Rangers. If that is true, then Igor is also putting himself at risk every game he is not signed an extension. Injury, poor games/season. Seems like a game of chicken in negotiation a bit here.
Sometimes the hill you are willing to die on, actually becomes the hill you die on. Who breaks? |

I can tell you he loves NY and actually looking to move from CT back to NYC. So really not sure any team who would even meet his demands of money is a place he would want to go to.

If Igor signs for 12+, I think it will put a dent in the Cap for us
Laffy will get about 7-8 per and Miller will get at least 6-7.

I really think this is what we are going to see in price points. Every jump of the CAP, salary years for players will jump with it.
50-60 pt players are making 7-8 million now. A solid scoring 2nd line may cost 20+ million off the cap. |
