The RR trade still hurts. It would have been fine to just ride out Ghost's contract and then deal with the aftermath. Keep the picks and open cap space. Problem is, chuck was trying to contend. - Hextall271

To be fair there are missing components here....
# of teams he has been on since
+/- or if you insist his corsi
When looking at it in a bubble the points show the Flyers missed out, but would he of put those points up with the Flyers? Why can't he stay with a team, especially given his production?
Does it suck that the Flyers paid to get rid of him, sure does, but why couldn't they get value from anyone? That's kind of a big deal.
People tend to worry too much how players perform on other teams, not enough on how they perform when they are actually here.
Are we going to cry about Hayes if he puts up points with Pittsburgh? - Glak18
Lol. The Flyers trashed his value, publicly telling everyone how bad he was at every opportunity (so badly that there was talk his NHL career was over) while also killing his confidence and then tried to trade him during a huge cash crunch for the league coming out of the lockout. Nobody had cap space.
They devalued the asset and sold at the low point during a league wide financial crisis to overpay for an overvalued asset at it's peak. Typical short sighted flyers who needed a new shiny toy.
Not suggesting he doesn't have his limitations but he's everything the Flyers thought that TDA would be and it's not like Detroit didn't try to keep him, he decided to move on this past offseason.
I am a lot more confident in CAR ability to accurately assess players and put round pegs in round holes than i am the Flyers.

Exactly, so it has no barring how that player performs later.
So Puljujarvi becomes a 40 goal scorer for the Penguins, it literally has no effect on Edmonton right now. - Glak18
only argument is you just ride the contract out try to make it work. ghost was a malcontent at the time. |

the cap space argument is weak. if a team really wants a player, they always find a way to make it work. no team wanted ghost. that is a fact. had to pay to get rid of him is alwso a fact. he had no value.
carolina also let him walk after what 25 games. then decide to bring him back? |

He has played 1 game this for Carolina, just 1. What were his stats for Detroit last season. |

I am just giving context as to why he had no value. I did say the Flyers publicly devalued Ghost to the point where many in the media thought his career was over plus he was getting paid 4.5 mill/yr a time where almost every team was up against the cap. The post Covid cap crunch has lead to the "weaponizing cap space" boom we see today. It's like trying to sell a house that was underwater during the mortgage crisis, and then blaming the house for your problems. Is it really the house's fault?
Much like TDA, CAR had a value on Ghost that was less than what other teams were willing to pay. CAR isn't going to fall in love an overpay players to the extent the Flyers do. CAR was more than happy (and is currently more than happy) to pay/play Ghost at their price. |

He wasn't a malcontent. He just clashed with AV, whose coaching career ended only a few months later.

It makes zero sense to have Andrae out on the trip and just sit. - bird_dog_pa
Agreed. I dont like it. Take out Zamula if you have to. One of EJ or Zamula should be out. If they didnt plan on actually using Andrae they should have called up someone they could afford to just sit in the press box like Belpedio

I wonder why Ghost cannot find a parament home. Or does he like going to the highest bidder every season.

100%.
A guy making league minimum surviving waivers probably truly has no value.
A guy making $4.5M getting waived midseason during a league-wide cap crisis is a completely different. He could have been Brian Leetch come again and most teams would have found it near impossible to open up that kind of space on such short notice. |

EJ has bern mediocre at best, but he’s been better than both Drysdale and Zamula. I know they probably feel that Drysdale just needs to play and shake off the rust, but why not sit Zamula for a game and give Andrae a look? He has pp experience at every other level so he can replace him there as well.
Finally, you can split the top pair on the pk and go with:
Sanheim-Risto
York-EJ - BiggE
I feel like peoples expectations for players are too high. EJ is a 7th D. There is a reason he is not a Top 6 Defender on a NHL Team. The 7th D is never a skilled Defender, if that was the case, they would be higher up in the roster on the Flyers or another team. The 7th D is essentially a bandaid. No team had a great 7th D that steps in and plays great. EJ is is the 7th D because he is a compentent defensman and a Vet. Someone they can afford to sit for long stretches and not wory about wasting potential.
Andrae should be in the lineup. Im with you on Zamula. Sit him or EJ. Either is fine with me. If you arent going to play him, send him down. Based on comments from Briere, he seems high on Andrae so I dont see why they are wasting time with his development by just sitting him |

Easier said than done.
The cost to offload that much cap space at the time would have been very high. |
