TK wasn’t much help on the OT goal either.
- Dkos

TK hustled back and was in the corner battling McDavid in the corner for the puck. Not sure what more you wanted there.

Goal happened because Michkov peeled out of the zone iand Sanheim was MIA after the fall. Not sure if he just went off or couldn't get back

Calgary is a poor team at center. To me, as I posted last night, this was the primary reason the Flyers lost this game. To beat a team like Edmonton, you need to have the puck more than they do, and last night the Flyers were destroyed at the dot. Not just Frost, Poehling was 4/16 at one point in the 3rd period. This is also the primary reason the Flyers PP is not better than it is, they simply lose too many o-zone draws and have the chase the puck down the ice at the start of 90% of their PPs. Couts is the Flyers best faceoff center by a wide margin. Frost is terrible. Peohling used to be OK but has regressed since last year. Cates is terrible. Laughton is terrible. Hopefully Luchanko can develop to be strong in the dot and if he does, putting him at 1C and moving Couts down will go a long way. Otherwise, there no other options that I see.

Honestly I would keep TK in OT taking the facoffs, he's not that bad at it.

When we had the 5 on 3 for 40 seconds, we immediately lost the draw and that neutered the glorious chance.

Not that faceoffs aren't important,.especially at key moments of the game but you place way too much value in them. They do have the effect on puck possession that you think they have. The Flyers lost due to defensive coverage breakdowns.
- MJL

Agree with what you are saying but with 3 on 3 it's so huge, because it becomes a puck possession game.
To the point teams will skate out the offensive zone to get fresh legs or to have better set up, wile in the process ticking a 5 min clock away

Hopefully he turns it around to at least be a top 6 player. The Flyers may very well have the top 2 worst contracts in the history of the NHL in Bryz and Coots. Hell, Ellis may be 3rd except they only traded for him, what did they get 3 games out of him?
- Flyers_01

I thought it was 4 glorious games. They really did their medical due diligence with that guy I tell you..

That was terrible backchecking on the OT goal.
- bird_dog_pa

Totally exposed on that goal. You can't sell out with the best guys in the league on 3 on 3

Did Dysdale play in the 3rd? He looked woozy after taking a hard hit in the 1st I believe. Under 14 TOI seems low. Poehling was brutal last night.

Coots had 2 back surgeries. Those sped up his decline.
- WhiskeyMan

I dont think hes declining yet. Think hes just playing poorly. He wasnt awful last night. I actually didnt notice he was playing until he had a big chance in the slot. Not being noticable isnt great but better than being noticably bad.

Team overall still looks sloppy. Poehling should sit for Cates. Andrae should be in the lineup

Sanheim got back but it was too late. Michkov made the biggest mistake IMO.

Agreed, Cates should be playing. He is on a contract year and he needs every opportunity to showcase himself.

If it was Frost he would have been scratched the next game. MM has more rope.

Pretty sure Torts benched him or was keeping him away from McDavid and Draisaitl. Still kind of looks like hes thinks hes playing in juniors. Some of the things he does, doesn't work in the nhl but we see flashes from him at times. Made some good plays last night.

Team overall couldn't handle the edm forecheck. Guys paniced and turned puck over repeatedly. TK even had an awful turnover in the defensive end behind the net

I agree with all of this. I want Andrae playing. The Flyers need so much help on defense. I want to see what Andrae has.

You are going to have defensive coverage break-downs when you play Edmonton, with McDavid and Draisaitl out there together, you just have to accept it. The key IMO to beating them is puck possession, and the Flyers were just destroyed in that department last night because no Flyer it seemed could win a faceoff when they needed to.

Exactly! We spent the 40 seconds trying to reenter the zone and get set up.

I was pissed about that. Brink eventually scored after the pp ended, but we wasted that opportunity to apply pressure

Good, they both have been bad pretty. Drysdale is such a pure skater but man he is a disaster defensively.

TK was the only Flyer back but he over skated the rebound following McDavid behind the net instead of remaining in front to clear the rebound. Had he done so, the Flyers have MM and TS all alone going the other way. Instead, Leon gathers the rebound point blank and buries it. Game over.

That said, good to get a point in that game and it was an exciting game that kept me up. Glad this Seattle game is the last of the 10:00 games for a while.

Luchanko had a decent game. Thought he was better in Vancouver, though. Didn't have a point on the Brink goal but took Ekholm to the net and it played directly into the goal.

Tortorella was playing Luchanko a lot in the 3rd period. In part because Couturier sat for 5 on a fighting major but he also was using JL and Poehling (who did not have a good game) a lot in the final five minutes.

seems Ryan P is struggling, started in preseason and has continued into the season. Wasnt Cates supposed to pull in for Ryan P in this game?

Come on man, you really think they are desperate after 3 games? They sucked last year through November until they got their coach fired and then they won something like 17 in a row. I doubt that they are desperate yet. These contending teams start out slow many times. Look at the Avs. They've been atrocious, but does anyone wanna take bets that they'll be fine in the long run.
- Phillywhiteout

starting 0-3 with a 4 game homestand, their big 2 not putting up points, yes they were desperate.
