So the Jays having not won a best of 7 since '93, is that the longest streak in pro sports at this point? - Zezel
No.
In the MLB I believe they only have a best of 7 and in the in the finals.
But yes, the last best of 7 they won was in 93 when they won the World series.
For longest droughts in sports...I think the leafs in there for a couple.
The Jays have a lengthy drought recently of not winning a playoff game.....thanks to their analytics dept. |

Wasn't baseball 7 games back when it was 2 rounds?
Man...the Jays haven't won a championship that was more than 2 rounds, just like the Leafs.

2 offensive bats compared to one. Also it would be less than 60m.
Heck sign bregman and santander or bregman and teoscar....dont care. Blowing it all in one fish (unless they are going to ohtani him) doesnt seem like a good idea as they need two quality bats and a whole new bullpen - Fakepartofme

More like getting a few more chances to prove he should stay. Leafs won’t get much more for him beyond the cap space. |

Leafs are just letting Hakanpaa completely rehab, overly so with their top of the line medical staff.
As soon as he's 110%, Lily or Tiimmins will be gone...unless of course someone else is on LTIR, then they will keep them all for as long as they can. Depth, plus Rifai and Myers are standing by to be 7/8 L/R.
Wouldn't doubt Prindham is playing LTIR Cap roulette right now to keep everyone on the squad until the TDL or all the way to the playoffs.
Why not? Nothing special is coming back for Lily unless he's packaged.

Lilly will be given away.
Leafs fans need to stop thinking we’ll get something for him, just because he was a 1st round pick. |

I'd be happy with getting a good shutdown 3C, even if the Leafs have to add.
Kampf and Holmberg both suck for different reasons and if the Leafs want any hope of deep playoff success, they need a tough, shutdown 3C.
I'd also take a veteran RHD like Savard or Rutta. Leafs still need a RHD, even if it's a bottom pairing one. |

Lily doesn't have much trade value at the moment and I'm not sure if that improves anytime soon. Teams know the Leafs are in a cap crunch and are not going to do them any favours. If the Leafs really want to get rid of him they could waive him. I am sure there would be one team willing to take a chance on him even at 3 mil. (Dubas)
It is too bad a first rounder hasn't panned out. No team wants to give up on their own high draft picks, but the leafs are just better off giving him away for the extra cap space. - rSole
Maybe Dubass will trade for him

Probably.
His value is negative at this point, IMO. Don't know what GMs think but can't imagine it's too much different. |

I bet there's a GM who has a team thinking they can make something out of him. Negative value would indicate that the leafs would have to add a sweetner to get back a 7th round pick for him. I don't think it's that dire.
He isn't worth a ton but it's only $3,000,000 and 2 years. A team like Seattle, Utah, Chicago or any other team wanting to get to the cap floor but not be locked into term would likely pay something for him. I think a 3rd would be a steal though for Tree.

I'm still stuck on what separates Sandin from Liljegren other than the fact that Sandin was traded at 22. Neither one is overly good at any particular skill. They're above average at lots of things - like skating and outlet passes, but they are too passive on zone entries, weak on man-to-man coverage, weak on the walls / puck battles.
So not really on the PK or the PP, not really a play driver, not really a shutdown guy . . . but this is Nick Jensen, who brought in a 2nd - and he was 3 years older than Liljegren and making about the cap equivalent. When Jensen was traded he had 190 NHL games and 42 points and was also not really good at any particular part of the game. Liljegren - 3 years younger than Jensen was when he was traded (in fact Jensen didn't even start in the NHL until he was 26) has 196 games and 65 points.
Sandin brought in a 1st.
My point with that is that while I know NHL GMs will overpay and are imperfect - Liljegren is worth at least what Jensen was - and we shouldn't be fleeced because the team has enough guys like Liljegren and can't make appropriate use of him. He's still a right-handed defender who can slot into the top-4 against most opponents, but is still probably best suited to a 4/5 role.

He’s currently playing a 6/7 role, which is soon going to be a 7/8 or 8/9 role when a couple of guys get healthy. |

Why is Reaves dressing?
With Nylander iffy due to sickness, it’s a terrible decision.
If Willie poops his pants in the first period, it means double-shifting everyone - other than Reaves. |
