There aren't enough starter caliber goalies to go around. So teams are almost forced to pay 4M or 5M on goalies that string together a couple decent seasons and hope it sticks. In Jarry's case, feels like a guy who got paid and stopped trying. |

I think we're at our limit for retained salaries, but this team really won't have any cap problems moving forward. I think somebody would bite if he were a sub 4 mil player. - madmike71
A team can retain salary on three players and we are only at two. So we could retain on Jarry or Graves for example. Both of the retained salaries, Petry and Smith, expire this year so they will have two more next year.
JJ was a buyout so he doesn't count in case that's what you were thinking.
EDIT- they might weigh if they want to be out of retained salaries at the deadline, so maybe Dubas would value that flexibility over dumping a player this year. It would be easier next year. |

That's a good point. Didn't think about that. They won't do it now, but I'd send him to WB and hope that lights a fire under him. Play the players who give you the best chance to win.
I wasn't sure if JJ's contract was also considered retained salary.

It'll be interesting to see how they stack up with the Canes tonight. Fully expecting a L while wishing for a competitive, at least somewhat close, game and not a slaughtering like vs Rangers haha
I would imagine the coaching staff has been in their ears a lot about how loose, sloppy and absent minded they were last game, especially most of the D-men. They could be focused on tightening up tonight...one would hope, anyway haha |

Our best chance of getting rid of Jarry is a) incentivizing a team with draft picks b) a swap for a similar caliber guy on a bad contract c) retain salary
I dont think we will do a or c, so I think Dubas will look for a hockey trade, similar to Daley for Scuderi back in the day. - SuperHenderson13
Not really sure what team needs a goalie. Maybe Edmonton? If Kane comes back early maybe Jarry for him? |

Jarrys in his head. The team needs to step up and put forth some decent defensive efforts in front of him. No matter what frivolous individual achievement looms. Besides you can’t trade a healthy scratched goalie making 5 mil a year. - Grinder47
I sort of agree wit this but it's always the start of the game Jarry tanks. He just seems completely unprepared to play.
The whole team has a problem with starts (That's on Sully)But being behind the 8 ball 10mins in is not conducive to this team playing good D.
They start panicking, pushing and pinching more. Also on Sully. |

Good thing about most of the mistakes last game is that they can be fixed with effort. At least 3 of those goals were from D men coasting.
65 had a beer league effort level last game.
58 needs to simplify. In the first 5 games he's had easy safe plays and chooses violence instead.
I think both of these guys refuse to admit they're aging and slowing down.

I think most of us would love that deal. Jarry has to at least show he has flashes of being his old self before I think any team trys to make a deal for him |

As the season goes on, more and more teams will look for a goalie. The big problem for Jarry is his lack of durability and injury history. I dont think any serious contender could rely on him to be the #1 goalie going into the playoffs, so you almost need a team that is a fringe team or one that has another goalie for a 1a and 1b situation.

At Jarry's salary, it's hard for me to see anyone taking him unless they see him as a #1. That's too much for a #1b. |

I’d fully expect Jarry to go on a heater if Pens could pull off a trade. |

I always thought maf was a better goalie than Pitt made him look. He had his melt downs for sure but if he played on a defensive team like those prime Boston, LA, or Nashville teams he would have put up insane numbers. |

I hate Carolina. - Grinder47
I'm kind of indifferent to them. I don't dislike them near as much as every other team in metro. Liked their style of play for years now. |

I got real invested in Edmonton in 06. Ever since then just hated them. THAT Edmonton team deserved the cup. |
