He only gave out two 8 year deals. 5-8 years seems to be the theme for the players on lines 1 and 2 that received new contracts
- WhiskeyMan

How many deals has DB signed to date w his own players?

Nashville finally won!!

That means the Flyers sit in the 3rd spot....soon maybe 2nd. I don't think they can even beat out San Jose.

I know HCs changes lines, but I cannot remember a HC doing so much changing in such a short period of time as Torts. Michkov is by far their best offensive player, I would have thought him developing familiarity with 1 linemate constantly would make him even more effective as a rookie. Frost/Michkov seemed like such a natural fit. I guess we just need to get use to Poehling/Michkov. If Michkov continues to be a PPG player with this usage, little doubt he is going to be an elite player.

Hopefully Celebrini returns soon. Apparently, it is a hip injury, which is concerning.

The Pres GM Coach all stated they are rebuilding and making the playoffs is not a criteria they would use for success. Most fans think the playoffs was a reach this season as well. Are you referring to fans on Uranus?

that is false as the co-gm said playoffs are the goal. public record.

I gve the coaching staff a big fat F for this game. The Flyers as a team currently have a pultry 7.6% shooting percentage, which means they have to generate 27 shots on goal just to have a chance to score 2 goals and 40 shots to score 3 goals. The team last night generated 18 shots on goal, and alas scored once. Sure, part of the problem was the Flyers were killing too many penalties last night (really bad game by TK), but let's face it, Tort's continually shuffling the lines does not help. I thought Couts and Michkov were actually generating some offense last night, but Torts has to change it and put Poehling at center. I have been saying Tippet is not a good fit with Michkov and its better if Foerster plays with Michkov, but alas Torts decides to bench Foerster because he has not been playing well. Note to Torts, constant line juggling within periods is not the way to build chemistry, and worse it causes the team to play with indecision and thus play slower.

Also, there are at least 10 players right now that are not playing well. You don't sit a young player like Foerster with his shot, while you continue to dress Brink, or worse you insert Deslauriers in the lineup, who NEVER plays well. And to make matters worse, Torts starts Deslauriers on an offensive zone draw where the Flyers get possession only for the bonehead to get into a fight nullifying that opportunity.

And don't get me started on the 2nd PP unit, where they have two of its players, Foerster and Luchanko, sitting in the press box while they continue to allow Zamula to QB the PP and bury Andrae on the Phantoms.

If Torts cannot show at least an inkling of restraint, and let's face it the older one gets the less patience they have, then the game has truly passed him by.

A BIG FAT F!!

Expectation is some line up changes for PHI.

They have some banged up players, but depending on health, two players who could come out are Bobby Brink and Morgan Frost.

Zamula did produce on PP2 last season, but I think Sanheim or York would be a safer option at the moment. But Zamula also led the team in ES TOI last night despite his struggles. Hard to work out what's going on there.

On the positive side, the whole team is healthy now. Not including Ellis and Johansen, of course.

- Feanor

Sanheim should be kept miles from the powerplay. York has some experience, but the real option is bringing Andrae back up and having him run the 2nd PP unit.

Will the Frost eject button be activited? Brink cannot get away with stick infractions like Hathaway. At this point, I will be relieved when the Frost divorce has been finalized

I did not have the pleasure of watching. The defense might just get this team to the bottom five despite the Flyers trying to win.

He meant DB :

“We’re inside the playoff bubble,” Brière said last Friday, grinning, and perhaps a little incredulous. “Like all of our fans, we’re really excited about that. Hopefully, we can keep it rolling. Getting to the playoffs — that’s the goal from now on.”

Here is the reality as I see it. There is no coach alive who could coach this team into a legitimate good team. That lack a 1C and a top defense pairing. The goaltending overall is just adequate at best. What needs to happen and should be happening is that the coaching staff should be focused on player development for the future. Unfortunately, they're not the right coaches for this task. I posted numerous times that eventually this team will see that the approach and strategy that they play with, will not lead to anything. The playoff level intensity shift to shift, the shot blocking and taking all the bumps and bruises, is not enough to win at this level. Which is why were seeing and have been seeing the team play outside of the structure and system to try and get something going.
I posted numerous times last season that all Tortorella is as a coach, is a high priced interim coach. His strengths as a coach are installing a defensive and forecheck structure. In terms of the modern style and systems of play, the game has passed him by. When you watch other teams play in the offensive zone. You can see an attack structure. You can see that they know where the puck support and escape pressure outlets are. You can see the movement away from the puck into scoring lanes. Teams play structurally in the offensive zone. You can see the transition strategy and how they move the puck. This is all absent from the Flyers. How many times in last nights game did Michkov use his excellent ability to shield the puck on the cycle, only to not have any cutters or anybody jumping into an open spot. The majority of the Flyers offense comes from improvisation and individual play. When someone is not "hot" offensively, they struggle. This is evident at 5 on 5 and on the PP.
I said numerous times last season that what they were doing, just being competitive, was fools gold and was not going to lead to anything meaningful. Now or in the future. This coaching staff is not capable of developing young elite talent nor is it capable of installing a strategy and system of modern day NHL hockey. Combined with the absurd structure of the hierarchy of the front office and the influence of Tortorella. The future of this franchise remains bleak.

The problem is the Pres GM and Coach have all preached culture and what a great room they have and the players are obviously quitting on the coach. They are entering a PR nightmare where they can do nothing without turning up the heat on themselves.

You're wrong. Sanheim produced on the PP better than York did all of last season. Sanheim is another player you have a ridiculous bias against.

Well, since I am a big proponent of "winning breeds culture", we shall see how much longer that lasts.
- MBFlyerfan

I don't know of any teams that didn't suck before they won the Stanley Cup, it's just a process you have to go through in order to be good in the NHL. It's the way the league is structured.

Every team that's won the Cup since the 2005 lockout has had multiple, more than one, top five picks. They have to draft well and they have to draft often.

Torts has already stated he doesn't understand offense or believe in systems which covers most of what you just said. Despite him freely admitting those things as well as his disgust towards analytics, the Flyers expect him coach the team up. To be more accurate they expect him to culture the team up and the wins will come.

It's the 3 stooges running the team.

I'm watching a team trying to make aggressive passes to move up the ice and turning the puck over on a consistent basis. At this point they're not connecting in the offensive zone either. It looks like they have no cohesion.. If this is how they plan to play, it may work out in the long run but get ready for lots of Ls in the meantime. Some young talent at center might help!
