It's not the end of the world but not all franchises declare themselves the gold standard and that they will go to the ends of the earth for their players. It puts extra focus on the way they do things.
If they can't get the easy things correct, providing a translator for the first Belarusian NHL goaltender in his first game to talk to the media, why do you think they will get the bigger things correct? - Flyers_01
It's sad how much this franchise has become a cesspool of incompetence. Is it any surprise that they haven't been relevant as an NHL team in over a decade

What? They are full time athletes. The Flyers should cheap out on getting a translator because they already have Russian speaking players? That's like saying the Phillies don't need to hire a Spanish to English interpreter because they have plenty of players that can speak Spanish. WTF is that logic? I'd argue they Flyers should pay for one now considering the amount of Russian or Belarussian players on the team and in the system. They're owned by Comcast; they should have plenty of money for this.
Also, love your dumbing down of the interpreter position. 'No need for highly educated people'. Absolutely laughable. You do realize those people have to interpret on the spot? And that Russian words might not have an exact English equivalent? Holy poop. - TobyFlenderson

That another issue that was blown out of proportion. People act like hes a child. He had a hotel room attached to the stadium. Players made every effort to hang out with him. You cant just add a Russian AHL player mid season. I dont even know if there are any Russians in the AHL. Any Russian not in the NHL would prefer to play in the KHL
Kolosov wasnt even there long. It was a few weeks. people go on vacation to countries that dont speak english and they survive. It is all negative nancies looking for reasons to be negative. Zamula came over toi North America with much less than what Kolosov was provided. Never mind the mountains moved for Michkov. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Nobody complained about the hotel. Nobody even mentioned the hotel but all anyone who defends the Flyers ever wants to talk about is the hotel. Why? He can't feel alone in a strange country where nobody speaks his language if he's in a nice hotel? It's a nice perk but doesn't address the actual issue.
Most people also don't go on vacation alone plus he was there for work and to communicate with the people at his workplace, not to see the sights in Lehigh Valley, whatever they may be. |

No but they use different terminology. Every Team\Company treats themselves like its the #1 place to be.
Look, the Flyers can always do more and when you claim to be the gold standard, you should do things that are above and beyond. To be frank, I dont know much at all what the team does for their players. Our guys want to stay here so obviously they do something to keep them here. Players are overpaid everywhere so it is not naive to think they could get a similar contract elsewhere. So it is more than just the money
Problem is people look for reasons to be negative. People look at the Kolosov situation and act like we had a video coach sexually assault a player. Kolosov's agent didnt even make a big deal of the situation
It is the same with Torts. People run the nbarative that players hate torts yet every analyst out there says most players love playing for Torts. theres always going to be someone who doesnt like Torts, No one is a 100% likes. Im sure there are players that hates playing for Paul Maurice or John Cooper |

The team made an effort to spend time with him, he is a shy individual. He didnt want to hang out with the team. He was alone because he secluded himself. Teammates made an effort, coiaches made an effort. I think Briere said he even checked in from time to time. The team also offered to bring his girlfriend/Family over. He wasnt ignored. He simply didnt put in any effort. He isnt the only Russian or non speaking NHLer to come to North America and not know the language. The Flyers didnt do anything that other teams dont do You guys treat him like hes some victim and he isnt. He was just a guy who was homesick and maybe not mature enough to move to another country

This is a good time to be a fan. Hear me out.
MM39 is as advertised. He’s gonna only get better as he matures.
Jett has the wheels and talent but needs time to mature.
The core is mostly young and hopefully will get better.
A top 5 pick looks like a lock with this team. Edmonton’s D and G looks horrible so maybe they don’t make it to the finals this time. Maybe the ABs don’t either. Good picks.

Add that the Flyers have arguable the best goalie prospect in the world right now and there is hope for the future despite the constant negativity. |

Correct. It’s a team of mostly 3rd liners. That’s why sucking this year will be a huge positive. |

No I dont but you cant sit here and cry about something our team doesnt provide when no one else provides it. All teams provide meals after home games, If the Flyers dont do that, then it is valid to complain about it because every other team does that. It is a standard across the league. If no one provided that then its ridiculous to complain about it because its not a real thing. It is like complaining that your TV provider doesnt provide Games in 8K. No one does so its not a fair expectation.
Whether interpreters are standard is unknown. Ive never heard of teams having them and there are countless players in the NHL from non english speaking countires. I believe the expectation is on the player to learn the language as it is absolutely necessay for someone whos going to be living in North america for the next 20 years or so.

Cant compare MLB to NHL though. A MLB team probably makes more money than the entire NHL. MLB can use $100 bills for Toilet paper

I dont agree. Coots, Konecny, Tippett, Michkov and Farabee are not 3rd liners. Brink Frost and Foerster you can say are until their production proves otherwise. Problem is everyone is overreacting to a poor 9 games. There is 73 games left. A lot can change over that time.
You have to remember that the NHL has changed as well. Teams try to have two 2nd lines. Teams also ten to make lines based on how players play together rather than skill level. Matthew Tkachuk for example is a 1st line player, no debate. He's currently used on the 2nd line. One could Argue Nylander is a top line player. Hes often on the 2nd or 3rd line in Toronto. Lines are more about fit than skill these days.

1. He was homesick and basically that's all he said.
2. Briere admitted he screwed up as he was learning on the job.
3. The Flyers did not offer to bring his GF over at that time. That was brought up for 2024.
That's it. Are people not allowed to admit they are homesick? Did Briere admit he screwed up with Kolosov because he felt that would be a great look for the Flyers?
Most of the ink spilled on this are people defending the gold standard franchise. This wouldn't have become the huge thing it did if the Flyers hadn't already botched the CG situation and been in full spin mode. The Flyers and their subsidiaries went full media blitz instead of just saying "yea he's homesick and we will address that". It became a "don't ever question us or we will bury you" onslaught kind of like what happened with CG.
It became a big deal because the Flyers overreacted, again. It took you 2 lengthy posts to spend one sentence (the final one) on the actual issue. Talking about everything but the problem.
How much of your 2 posts have to do with "he was homesick and maybe not mature enough to go to another country"? That's all that needed to be said. You sound like comcast talking about everything but the issue. |

Yes, that does mean it OK. You are not expected to provide something that isnt standard.
The gold standard nonsense is pure PR BS. Its meaningless. Like I mentioned in another comment all teams\companies have terminology like that. Everyone claims to be the best and that by definition cannot be true. |
