It's a different look though. 1st line is producing, goaltending has been below average, they have a checking line, and a new look LOG line.

I think there's some hope they figure it out. Just getting better goaltending puts them in the race.

Tbh, McLeod has waned somewhat and I still think Savoie will be missed once he's riding shotgun with Leon or McJesus, potting 60pts a year. But we can celebrate early given that it will be more precarious in the future, I did admit a couple weeks back that McLeod looked better than he ever did in EDM from what I saw. More to him than a 4th liner...then again, I think folks are sipping the kool aid when they say he's a top6 guy.

Edit: I'll add, I still think it was a bad trade. If we sent that 2nd rounder out for him, fair enough, but we overpaid. Tulio will never be anything. McLeod may be gone by the time Savoie is cashing in those Leon set ups, but it's coming to a theatre near you real soon. They lack depth, so it's pretty unlikely Savoie doesn't get his chance there.

Nothing I’ve seen makes me feel like Savoie is a superstar missing piece in Edmonton.

If he’s so good, he’d be playing with the big club.
They should call him up , but they won’t, because he’s not an nhl player (yet) like McLeod.

No one said he was a superstar. I do think he'll be better than a 3C though. Decent 2nd line winger with a high end motor.

And again, we paid a better prospect to move up the timeline. Think that will come back to bite us in the long run, but trying to compare them both now is a disingenuous way of approaching the trade. You can argue Savoie won't work out, I certainly had my reservations about him prior to the trade. But saying it's a good trade bc McLeod is in the NHL and he isn't is foolish.

I'll be the first to say I had big issues with his game, but that's when folks were saying he was a top line talent. That he is not. All and all though, he has the talent to be the perfect compliment to a high end scorer.

That being said, I would trade back in a heartbeat and try to throw extra money at Thomas Novak last offseason as a stop gap. We sold low on him and that was bad business no matter how you split it IMO.

It’s a very similar style and if we can keep at ir consistently we should win quite a few games.
