No one said he was a superstar. I do think he'll be better than a 3C though. Decent 2nd line winger with a high end motor.

And again, we paid a better prospect to move up the timeline. Think that will come back to bite us in the long run, but trying to compare them both now is a disingenuous way of approaching the trade. You can argue Savoie won't work out, I certainly had my reservations about him prior to the trade. But saying it's a good trade bc McLeod is in the NHL and he isn't is foolish.

- QuinnFan

Foolish?

One guy (McLeod) is making a positive impact immediately on his team.

One guy (savoie) has done absolutely nothing at the nhl level.

I think that’s a fair point

It’s a very similar style and if we can keep at ir consistently we should win quite a few games.

Looks like the team is finally buying into the system and that Lindy actually benching underperforming players lit a spark

- Shadman306

Good post

The players are actually being held accountable for their play game in and game out.

That’s all the coach has these days, embarrass these guys a bit and expect better from everyone

Sammy just named captain a month ago and now he’s watching from above. Hope it fixes him.

I think this is spot on. Benson made savoie redundant and then some.

Yall ever seen savoie back check anywhere close to bensons level?

- Shadman306

Yeah, their only similarities are size tbh. They're both decent forecheckers and both work hard, edge to Savoie with his speed but that's just an opinion. Savoie is the better shooter and passer. Benson is a far superior puck retrieval guy and his IQ is through the roof. They just get juxtaposed so often due to size and playing together probably.

It's foolish if that's the reason you think McLeod will be the more valuable asset. Like the RoR trade, this will take time. In the end, when we're lacking scoring in the middle 6, Savoie may very well be more attractive in a year or two...which isn't long.

mcleod is what was needed now

I was against the trade at the time, but the more I see guys like mcleod, and zucker making plays, I am fine with the trade

Ostlund, Whalberg, Helenius, Kulich, Rosen, Neuchev, Poltapov, Kozak.

I think we'll be fine.

Agreed, I was 50/50 on the trade, but it’s looking great thru 15 games.

Quinner was adamant repeatedly over the trade, I’m just jabbing him a bit

From the little I've watched of Roch games. Kozak looks like a real player.

May not be more than a bottom 6 player but hes got a high motor and he uses it every shift.

I think people forget with all the talent Savoie has, his attitude lacks. And hes been injury prone up to this point. His value had dropped. We got a real centerman for a guy who might be scoring winger.

All of those guys outside Kulich and maybe Rosen are further out than Savoie. And it still remains to be seen if Kulich or Rosen are better than 3rd liners, so I'd take every chance I could. Either way, I still believe that Savoie will end up having the better career.

We can agree to disagree, I know I'm in the minority here, but we will need years to see the full scope here. I really think Savoie's value will balloon over the next season or two and we'll look back on the trade as a miss...it just isn't as bad as I thought.

I'd rather underestimate McLeod than defend the Malenstyn trade right now.

Savoie 6pts in 10games.

Rosen 10 in 9

Neuchev 8 in 9

Kozak 5 goals 6 pts in 8 games

Whalberg 6 in 9

Helenius 5 in 9.

IMO most of them are more ready than Savoie for NHL action.

It ain't all just points my friend and Bakersfield hasn't been doing very well of late.

But either way, not sure what Neuchev, Kozak or Wahlberg are doing on here. They aren't going to be good NHL point producers, you're hoping they're bottom6 players, at best.

After the Savoie trade, you're banking on two of Kulich, Rosen and Helenius to be able to take on top6 jobs after Zucker and Tuch walk. Kulich has a chance to replace Zucker. None have a realistic chance to replace Tuch. Cap is getting tighter now...can't buy one. I'd have kept Savoie and gave Novak $5M to get out of Nashville instead.

Moving down 3 spots from 11 to 14 and adding malenstyn is a top5gm move.

Especially considering how great the pick is playing in Rochester

When we consistently start winning, everyone will like malenstyn’s blue collar work ethic. He’s a brave shot blocker.

The offer sheet comp for his contract is nothing.

He's also UFA in 2 years, at the end of his deal.

I could see the Sabres sign him long term.

Of course it’s a small sample size , but I like his grittiness so far.

Cheap deal straight to UFA is the exact opposite of that.

Maybe they want to see what Blake has in a Sabres uniform?

Kev seemed pretty happy it wasn’t a 1 year deal

He wasn't. They pulled out of the trade.

You're telling me he was there for the taking but 30 other Teams didn't get him either. They did the same thing with Hellybuck a couple years ago.
