It’s not even dwelling in past success. It’s being able to acknowledge the obvious at this point. - Cptmjl
The team is not a dumpster fire so it's all good. That is a loser mentality. I think fans are entitled to be upset with the team going backwards after the two ECF's trips. Do not hire a multiple Cup winning GM and not expect the bar to be raised. You go with a vet team and refuse to rebuild; you are going to get ripped when you fall short.

It's so easy to stay away or not even post. To defend a GM or a team like they are family is one of the books for sure.

If someone wants to live off the 4 cups or the recent 2 ECF, God Bless You! I want more for my team. Just make one Cup since 1983 and win or lose, I'll tone down the negative comments. Forget the Cup, just start a rebuild and I'll be thrilled. Lou had his run and then some. He needs to do the right thing and retire, or he needs to be fired. Bill did not get to say when he was done and neither should Lou. Lou owes it to the team and fanbase to move Nelson and Palms and to put this team on a good path to the future. If for some reason ownership does not want any sort of rebuild, Lou should quit. - ses111
I am starting to feel like my dad, when I use to give him crap about the 1940 chant. Back then he said enjoy it because you never know when you will see it again.
He put the Italian maloik on me. This team has not one sh!t since. We had a good shot in 1993, but F'n Dale Hunter screwed that up.
Right now, the team is outside the playoffs (with American Thanksgiving late) and only a wild card spot for the playoffs is visible.
The frustrating part for me is that Lou is selling this as a very good team. A team that is expected to win. However, if you break things down, what he is selling is not 100% truthful.

We had a good shot during the two ECF's. Lou should have been all in the offseason after the first ECF. That was the time to be aggressive. It's not now. Ownership and Lou are trying to fool the fans, and many fans are not buying it. Fans can tell for the most part what a legit team looks like.

I completely understand why some defend Lou. I have a ton of respect for the guy and what he did here. I’m not flaming the guy it’s just time to turn the page. |

To be fair there wasn’t really much we could do with existing contracts and lack of tradeable assets. My biggest grudge with Lou is not doing a retool the year after we didn’t make the playoffs . |

This is fair. Lou won the Cups with the Devils so it’s a little different for me. It’s still no shame for Lou to call it quits or be replaced after his career. |

Lou added to the bad contracts though and added to the problems. Lou gets no blame for Garth’s work. Lou fired Barry and hired Lane. The biggest failure is Lou’s roster work and not improving the scouting and development staffs. |

I agree. After years of being a joke with Snow L&M needed to send a message they were serious. No one is sends a message that they are serious like Lou.
However, it's time for a new vision.

Blues sucked ass until New Years and won the Cup. Oilers last year were a poopshow at New Years and made it to the dance.
Ease up Dawg, when the teams healthy they may surprise you. I have no problem replacing Lou as long as there is a viable replacement.
Don’t give me a Kyle Dubas

Kyle Dubas is not the answer here. But Lou's replacement should be a person that can embrace the new NHL. I do not know if this person exists as you see a lot of teams recycling.

Well I guess the way to look at it is we are one Connor Mcdavid and Leon Draisaitl away from competing. Get at it Lou. |

Yep, agreed. Time to face the obvious. The completely plain as day obvious. Every, single, time we kick the can down the road it becomes a longer, more painful rebuild. If we started this a few years ago we could have been in a much better position to compete next year while Barzal and Sorokin are in their prime.
Now we’ve pushed it out past the natural decline for both of these players. Not sure why some are having a tough time comprehending this. If you want to be the, “Hey you never know” team for perpetuity then I guess you are all for this to continue.
For me, I’ll take a legit, competitive team for 5-6 years over anything else rather than praying they make the playoffs and hoping for divine intervention once they are there. That’s just me. |

Oh yeah 100%. Don’t get me wrong I certainly don’t agree with his entire body of work. The last few years especially. |

Lou was 100% the right hire at the time. I just thought Lou would be taking a wrecking ball to the scouting and development staff and was hoping for more roster changes. Lou likes to make coaching changes and puts a lot on the coaching. There were much more issues than coaching when Lou first took over the Islanders. Time has come for a new direction for the Islanders. |

It should not be impossible to replace a GM. Because another hall of fame GM is not available, is not an excuse to keep the current GM. Look to teams that have had success for possible GM hires like Dallas, Tampa, Boston. |

Patrick Kane will not play against the #Isles on Monday night.
@DetroitRedWings head coach Derek Lalonde said the veteran forward will “need another day, probably day-to-day situation.” Kane took maintenance day on Sunday. |

Dubas sucks!
What’s the new NHL? Cap Era?
I think most executives in the league are nimble and change with the tide of the game.
A GM with a proven resume is what I’m looking for. |
