The low attendance will be the eye opener for ownership. They can’t keep things status quo if people aren’t buying tickets (which is starting to happen).
This business model of “anything can happen if you make it in the post season” is not a winning recipe. Not sure why that’s an exceptable stance, but it seems that’s what’s happening. When’s the last time the isles were president trophy winners? Even in ‘93 they were a bottom seed. The isles need to evaluate why they cannot seem to get to the point of being a feared team vs facing a back up goalie - kindlyrick
I love history questions. . Without cheating (looking it up), I only remember one time when the Islanders won the President's Trophy. I believe it was the 1978-79 season. Then they got eliminated by the Rangers........I think in the semi-finals. They learned a little something that season, however, and kept something in reserve for the playoffs the following season when they won the first of 4 consecutive Stanley Cups.
I know, I know. Your question was a rhetorical one. But I am bored with this season already. It gets old fast when the team only plays 40 minutes of hockey a night. |

To be fair. that's been going on for years now. - JimmyP
I think it dates back to the coaching days of Cappy and Weight. But then Trotz had them playing 60 minutes most nights, so I thought it was done. However, it reemerged under Lambert, and this year it has been particularly noticeable, because 3rd period leads keep evaporating.

Agreed. I'm a little surprised it's still happening under Roy with such frequency because he's such an intense guy. I'm not blaming Roy. I believe it's a player issue. I don't think Trotz could have those same results with this team. Injuries certainly aren't helping. |

As good as Barry was as a coach, I have to agree. Even Barry's team had issues with slow starts. |

Maybe we don't have to be worried about a blown lead in the 3rd. |

Love that pass from Nelson on the goal. Crazy how little he's talked about for as good of a player as he is. |

Just do a little research and see when the last Presidents Trophy winner won the cup and how many have done it recently. Typically doesn’t happen. . So making the POs is not a far fetched goal for every team coming out of training camp. President Trophy winners have won the cup 8 times. Looking at odds every team in the POs has an equal chance of winning it. Also being a business the revenue from even one round in nice. |

Sure, it's not like anyone disagrees. He's a great player and a great Islander.
The question is does he or Marchand get the hatty. Maybe both.

If he gets that hat trick it will help that new contract he’s playing for! |

Well, they're still finding a way to have a third period collapse. |

I'm still waiting for that annoying bumhole Marchand to get the empty net hat trick.
