So last time Reaves was done for a headshot was 2020. So that cant be used against him now. Too far past. Nurse was bent over skating with the puck. Intent was to hot the puck carrier, poke the puck loose.

That said he did catch the head. Overreaction to the blood I think there by the refs. If anything maybe 2 games just to address being more careful and cool things off for similar incidents by anyone else.

And for the love of god can we just get rid of Botchick whiner who hates anything physical in hockey. Just fire her off into the sunset.

Watched the hit for the first time just now. It didn't seem like murder. Looked a lot like involuntary manslaughter.

I'm neither a fan nor hater of Reaves and his absence, however long it is, won't hurt this team in any way....but the over reaction was more than a bit much.

I feel if anyone else but Reaves delivers that hit, it's not a penalty let alone talk of suspension.

Reaves should get 2-3 games. Who the (frank) cares. Leafs needed an excuse to roll out a 4th line without him for a few games. It'll be a good.

He's been good without 34 ..stepping up. Don't underestimate how much he did to keep McDavid limited last night. JT/MM played against him all night and McD was a -3.

Mitch smells blood in the water during a contract year. This is good for the Leafs but not so great for their cap management. The longer Mitch stays hot and the Leafs keep banking points is great. But he is also playing himself into a FAT contract somewhere. I think the Leafs should pay him unless his ask is so outrageous or another team makes a world-changing offer for him. Leafs are better with him like this than any package of middling prospects and picks.

It will not help his cause that Leaf-hater Jennifer Botterill was condemming him on HNIC with her high pitched squeals. I don't expect leniency or kindness from goon Parros. Missing Reaves will have minimal effect on the Leafs IMO. Hope Nurse is ok.

The good news for the Leafs (and bad news for poopbag no income franchises) is that the cap will be going up significantly. $92.5 to $97M next year according to Friedman. Hard to see the Leafs not re-signing him.

Personally, I think the hit was borderline. Maybe a minor or at most a major. I don't think it was targeted. Nurse was caught looking down, but he wasn't really "head down" like some are saying - at least not in my subjective view. I watched it again just now to get a better feel for it. I don't think it's a match penalty in any case and a suspension is probably not warranted. I'd be female doging about it if it was somebody useful like Knies. But honestly, Reaves sitting for 10 games is a gift. That's the silver lining in this.

And yeah, I hope Nurse is OK. That was a helluva bell-ringer.
