Over pay now save later. wish we did that with the core 4. with a rising cap players will want more share of it the longer you wait. it's no longer about dollars these days but percentage of the cap.
- systemtool

I get the cap suppose to go up...but weve heard that before. Either way, leafs have been in cap binds for years. I like to see a little restraint if possible

While I agree with the premise of your argument, this is one case, and a specially breed of player, we should lock down now because I don't want him getting in his prime and asking for top dollar. If the caps increasing this will eventually be a deal rather than waiting and his percentage of the cap ask goes up. Time to be proactive and not reactive. Like Matthews signing short deals in order to max out on cap %. enough of that. also we haven't heard that before. most of our core 4 massive contracts were in stalled covid years with little to no cap increase and a big escrow give back. contracts are going to go buck wild soon and better to avoid it while we can. Agents arent stupid. The higher the cap the higher the ask.

I think that's fair. But he'll rack more points than willy by the end of the year so we'll see. There could be a case made to stop paying guys for reg season success and instead focusing on who delivers in the playoffs

I feel like this makes sense. Plus, I think Knies is for real, so I don't see it as a big risk. The kid is blossoming right before our eyes. He's stepping up and out this season.

Can you imagine the fan base if the Leafs did not “overpay” for any player.
Would love to see that roster

wait what? missed the body?...hang on let's not be silly now. It's a split second sport and if youre dangling about unfocused what's going around you and you're not paying attention how is it the checkers fault? should he pause and ask another tall player to skate upright and be aware before he throws a check? let's not be silly now

Whether I agree with the rules or not isn't the issue here - the issue is that the rules in the game take exception to straight head shots and in particular shots where the head is the principal point of contact (or in this case the _only_ point of contact).

Has the game placed too much onus on the hitter and not the puck carrier? To some extent I think this is true. I watch players place themselves a foot out from the boards with their back to the play so that any check against them is likely to draw a boarding penalty. The league doesn't see a problem with this, but it is one to me.

But in this specific instance? Nurse is coming around the back of the net, a little lower as he's reaching forward for the puck - but Reaves can avoid that head contact all day every day and he doesn't. This has been a suspension in the NHL since the 90s.

We'd still think guys are overpaid! The only guys the Leafs have had since 2016 that haven't been overpaid in someone's eyes have been on their ELCs!

Leafs’s lineup improves. Reaves out for 5 games
- Canada Cup

The Oilers might be better without Nurse, although I’ve read that he’s been better of late.

What a win by the Leafs last night, didn’t read anything here about it but on the Oiler’s tying goal late did anyone else think there was a missed penalty (maybe 2) on the Oikers right before they scored?

McDavid shot JT’s Stu k out to the blue line which is supposed to be a penalty and then maybe goalie interference also?

Ended up not mattering for Toronto but the Oilers maybe stole a point? I just thought it was weird. I know JT and The Chief were steamed about it. Even Knies was giving the Zebra an ear full.
