Watched the replay of the called back goal. He knocked the stick right out of the Canes player’s hands. I get you don’t want it to be a penalty, but it is. What’s everyone whining about?

The debate seemed to stem from how easily he dropped his stick.

Outside from this play, you usually expect some onus to be on the player holding his stick, otherwise any time there's the slightest tap a player could drop his stick and it's a penalty.

A lot of extra talk in this thread, some legit, some... not. Reminds me a little bit of those guys on the Muppets.

Back to actually Sens talk:
Two teams that are struggling little right now playing tonight. Hoping ottawa comes out strong. Feeling like a broken record tbough since I've talked about this team showing they've changed half a dozen times.

Right. Thing is the defender hadn't even really attempted to engage with him yet, he just turned and pre-emptively swatted the stick away.

Exactly. This is the piece everyone is ignoring. If it’s not slashing, it’s interference. Cut and dry

That's still a fairly soft interference call. One of those plays that meets the letter of definition but something worse will be let go multiple times in the game.

I get the argument, but I'd wager if it hadn't led to a goal it doesn't get called the majority of the time.

I mean it was blatantly obvious and directly impacted the play. It would be impossible to ignore.

Seemed incredibly obvious, yeah. If the goal had been allowed, the Canes would have a genuine gripe. As it stands, that’s a call that should and will be called every time

I'm going to go with the Toronto media who actually said it was a garbage call and that there has to be some onus on the defender, you only have one hand on your stick trying to break up a play, then it's on you to grip it a bit tighter. He didnt exactley hammer down on it. Leave the leaf bias at the door, if it was Mathews to Marner and Stutzle had one hand on his stick trying to break up the play and Marner knocked it the same way, slim chance you would say it was a penalty and would be pretty annoyed, as sens fans are now.

The defender hadn't even really engaged with him yet. You can't attack the opponents stick when the puck isn't there.

Seriously? His right arm was fully extended looking to break up the play, stick stretched horizontal to the ice, leaning forwards. "Hadn't even really engaged him" is not a great argument here. He just had a crap grip on his stick.

And. The same play had happened in Edmonton and it was a goal. But Ottawa is pretty much a cancer franchise that most media pundits (and refs apparently) love to hate. Additionally Stutzle, by his own doing, has become a bit of a poster child for diving and making refs look bad with his antics. It was a perfect recipe for "no goal--here have a penalty too". Then the Pinto fantom slash.

I think the only point I'm trying to make here to Leaf fans (who --for a team they hate sure show up in this tiny little forum alot) --You all would have lost your minds on both plays if it had happened to your team. And to say differently is a wild stretch. So just be happy it happened to the Sens and move on.

The defender was never going to engage with him, he was beat and reaching with one hand in desperation.

How many more years do you have Ullmark under contract?
Not so sure he is the answer.

Leafs had two goals called back in the same game last week. We didn't need to lose our minds, because the team still won anyways. No sense whining about a single goal being called back if we needed 5 to win.

Well that was a lackluster show. Extra brutal when you see 3 former Sens goalies in the top 10 of the standings. Something is off here.

Some people here (myself included) wanted to wait until December before signing him so that we could properly "try it before we buy it". I'm not ready to throw the towel on him yet but I'm certainly looking as to where said towel is.

That does bug me quite a bit. Is it the goalie coaching? Lack of team mate support? Locker room drama? Why did Anderson perform reasonably well for many years and everyone after him didn't?

during the Anderson era, OTT had actual good coaching and team defense, post Anderson era OTT has not had any NHL level coaching or defense and that includes current coach. OTT defensive system is let the other team shoot, hope you block it, hope the G can stop if you don't, hope they don't score, hope to get the puck, hope you get out of the zone with puck and hope your not to tired to attack...no team can or will win with a system like that.

Gus GP 14 GAA 2.07 SV% 0.926
Daccord GP 12 GAA 2.51 SV% 0.918
Ullmark GP 10 GAA 2.77 SV% 0.890

Miny is a FAR better team then OTT but SEA is on par with OTT but Daccord has FAR better numbers than Ullmark.
