Is it status quo or do you actually and truly want to compete for cups.
The Bruins have legitimately been knocking at the door for the last 15 years. Maybe I am biased because hockey is my sport but it is the hardest championship to win. By a mile. The hard cap gives plenty of teams a shot. Every year a case can be made for 5-10 teams (more sometimes) that are deserving to win the cup. The parity of the NHL is unrivaled (especially right now). The Bruins have been in the mix almost every single year, competing for cups.
The Bruins constantly dip into the trade deadline market to go for it. They are always tip toeing the cap. That is all you can ask for. I think Sweeney has done a pretty solid job (im giving him a pass for 2015, I'm over that storyline). Barzal, Connor and Chabot have WON LESS. Neely, meh. I don't like how he handles some things but I think the combination of the two of them is a good balance. Sweeney is far more level headed LOL - Mahewman
Sweeney has made plenty of mistakes even if you don't count the 2015 Draft.
Trading a 3rd round pick for Zac Rinaldo.
Trades a 2nd round pick for Lee Stempiak who plays a total of 19 games.
Signed David Backes to a 6Mx5yrs contract - the guy went on to score 94 points in 223 games.
Traded a 1st+ for an at-the-end-of-his-career Rick Nash
Gave Charlie Coyle a 6yr contract that included an NTC... wtf?
Gave John Moore a 5 year contract ... WTF?
Opting for 1 year arbitration on Swayman, then trading Ulmark before extending Swayman?
Who selects the specialty team coaches? As head coach one would think Sweeney had a lot of influence there. Why is Sacco still on this team???
Firing Cassidy, who went on to win a Cup with Vegas...
The list goes on.

Its amazing that they have won the most games in the NHL in that time span despite trading a third round pick for Zac Rinaldo 8 years ago.

Good to see you read my ENTIRE post...
Last 5 years...
- lost 2nd round 1-4
- lost 2nd round 2-4
- lost first round 3-4
- lost first round 3-4
- lost 2nd round 2-4
It's awesome you measure the success of the team by the regular season.
Post-season kinda accounts for more... no?

Holy cherry picked information batman.
If your homer boner lasts for more than 4 hours you're supposed to have Jack Edwards send you a picture of himself. |

Dude, too soon pulling Jack into this. Ultimate homer, yes, but still hate what is/has happened to him. I miss the old Jack. |

And yes, Sweeney has had plenty of questionable moves.
Not sure the pundit comments about Swayman holding out having negative impacts on the room are inaccurate. Let alone the impact on his play. Hopefully Sacco goes to a pretty much 50/50 split in goal. Much of what I've seen/heard is Sway is full of himself. Maybe take him down a notch and he plays better. Yep, the team has been crap in front of him but it's not like he's been standing on his head trying to win games. |

Duck isn't wrong in his assessment here. Yep, great regular season team but fold when it matters most. |

I read the whole thing and I’ve read it all before. We’ve all been here.
Where do you think they rank in playoff wins? 32nd? I could have went into a full list of positive Sweeney moves but what would that accomplish. It would fall of deaf ears. I prefer to root for my teams, not dwell on 2016 transactions. Sweeney has done a pretty solid job keeping this team competitive. He’s been aggressive when he’s had to. I don’t agree with everything he does and there are moves I didn’t like that you didn’t even mention. (Heinen for thick Nick)
I chose the Rinaldo factoid because it’s crazy to keep bringing up a depth grit trade from 9 years ago. I didn’t want him here as much as the next guy. Sweeneys worst moves come when they chase the Big Bad Bruin mentality. This I would point to Neely.

What happened to him is sad, and my attempt at humor was not an attempt to belittle that. As a human being, I wish him well.
As a commentator we will agree to disagree on just how good he was. Ill leave it there. |

Jack Edwards back in the day was electric. I recently watched a condensed Bruins vs Montreal game from a while back and I forgot how intense he made the game feel. It was obviously still prime homer Jack, but he made a regular season game feel like a playoff game. |

You rarely if ever hear this front office say their plan is to win a cup. The talk is always "compete" or "playoffs". So yeah it's status quo and in my mind is what is missing. That is the next step from the success they have built over the last 20 years. Sure that is worth celebrating to some degree, I remember and will never forget the days where free agents wouldn't consider Boston and the culture around the team was awful.
If you want praise Jacobs, fine. There are a few noteworthy things there. He got his salary cap and he spends to it. He bult TD garden, renovated and built the hub around it without costing MA taxpayers any money.
The fact that you willfully ignore for this entire run 2 GMs have drafted horribly, is strange. With the cap and with your parity. You MUST draft wisely, you MUST make wise and educated personnel decisions. Otherwise you're going to end up like Columbus or Buffalo or in purgatory like Philly or where Boston now is.
9 years and you have made it out the second round once. That is not as successful as you make it out to be. The Bruins want 1st round. That is and always been their benchmark. That is the status quo and I'm (frank)ing tired of it!! |

I bring up Rinaldo because it was an example of a (totally unecessary) brain-fart move.
But you have set the bar so low, you can't possibly be disappointed.
Congrats!

Jack was always a polarizing figure...you love him or hate him...not much in between. There's a large contingency holding Dougie's viewpoint. |

I could never watch the Bruin's feed when he was doing the play by play. I understand that many people love him. Respect the viewpoint. I just personally found the game less enjoyable while he called it. |

I don't understand anyone who is defending this management group or trying to bright side it. They're indefensible at this point.

Yeah.
There's cheering for the team.
And then there's blind homerism.
Some fans here are walking around with sunglasses and white canes...

Credit where credit is due. Korpi playing very good. Thank you again Essensa |

Essensa is the highest level of "management" that should be kept when/if they clean house.
But... can he turn Swayman's abysmal season around?

I understand the Ullmark trade was not what it should've been. But just looking at Korpisalo away from the trade, I didn't really see the cause to freak out the way some folks did. He's serviceable backup.
