I understand the Ullmark trade was not what it should've been. But just looking at Korpisalo away from the trade, I didn't really see the cause to freak out the way some folks did. He's serviceable backup.

As a backup sure, the point is valid. I think the big snag was the term (at least for me). Would have liked a little more salary retention too but that is nitpicky.

Agreed, $3M per for several more years is a bit rich for a backup. That being said, he is playing better than Sway right now so I say 50/50 for the time being.

I think that view is just a touch dated. His original salary sure. But go look at the comps for backups. It's in the wheelhouse.

I don't mind Korpi as a backup.

My issue was trading Ulmark before Swayman was signed.

Sweeney gave away all of his leverage with that move.

Not so much the price, but 4 more years is a bit long for my liking for a backup. I would prefer we could bring up a guy from Providence.

It's a valid concern. A competent GM would've made a better deal in the first place. You know...after sorting the position in the first place.

Yeah, quite frankly the handling of the goalies on this team for the last 15 months should have/would have been enough to get that GM fired. Absolutely, completely botched. You knew that there was no way you were keeping both of the goalies till the end of Ullmark's current contract...so you knew you were moving one of them after the season. First you make the bonehead move to not sign Swayman to two years out of arbitration which was your right. Supposedly this was throwing a bone Swayman's way because he was clearly going to earn more than the arbitration number on an actual followon contract (yep, Swayman's agent did his job, you did not!). Guess what, you're the GM and your job is to take care of the success of the team...PERIOD. If you had signed Swayman to two years you would have had all the leverage on moving whichever goalie you wanted after the season knowing you had yet another year to nail down an extension on whomever you kept.

Giving that you made the decision above, you should have known well before the post season, who you were going to keep and made sure negotiations were wrapped up so you could enter the off-season with a clear path unhindered.

No issues at all with the quick trade timing...getting back into the first round this past off-season made sense but not under these circumstances that YOU YOURSELF CREATED!

Total botch and should have been fired as soon as the Swayman deal was finished (sooner might have made things even worse on the Swayman front).

Way off topic here but a question (poll?) for our illustrious group

Who is more deserving of HHOF, Marchand or Nifty?

Marchand has a few more points.

But Nifty has better PPG and GPG. And only accrued 124 pm in 881 games!

I give the nod to Nifty.

Honestly I just wanted them to give bussi or depietro an extended look as a backup. My wish is for the team to get younger and allow the kids to play through pains. If the season is a bubble/playoff miss anyways, let the kids play

Ready for a Claude Julien era 2.0? After seeing ruff rejoin the sabres I'm just convinced that Sweeney needs the 2011 retread.

Could also be the bourbon talking. Please never rule that out in my responses.

Really? I right-clicked to open in a new tab (on my computer though...) and no issue.

I'm sure that made the Jacobs family happy.
