I guess if you're a Flames fan you might think Podkolzin is a good player.

Do you mean the same Flames that are tied for 2nd in the Pacific?

In November, yes.

I’m hoping they crash soon. The #1 thing that can derail a rebuild is outstanding goaltending, Wolf is providing that right now. Between him and an overachieving D corp, Flames are screwed.
Don’t worry, your day will come, when the Canucks start playing better. They should be all over the bottom feeding Flames.

“Shortly after Penticton, we really nailed down what the issue was specifically, which was nice to finally understand what was going on. And that gave us a clear picture of different options that we had moving forward. It was kind of just trial and error at that point, and we ended up finding something that worked really well for me.

Dude. The power of positivity is so strong right now. You can't slander a player or coach or management anymore here as it may not meet the contribution standards for the thread. I'm looking forward to you being better Kman. Flames look great right now wowza!!!

- LordHumungous

I was just honestly asking a question of why so much negativity, which unfortunately turned into everyone here questioning the same.

The ban was not for your slander of anything about players coaches or management, it was for a profanity laced attack on another poster, that’s the line that was crossed.

Flames are playing much better than expected so far and actually maintaining. Can they do it long term however?

They definitely need to add to D and push the Soucy/Myers pairing down. Forbort is not going to help.

Allvin and Ruthy tend to make trades earlier in the season. They traded for Zadorov on Nov 30 last year, so around this time. Think it'll be Hoglander + 1st going out the door for a solid youngish RHD with term.

Byram would be a pipe dream and I doubt that package gets him.
Rasmus out of Calgary is intriguing with another year of control, I think the package is close.
Pettersson out of Pitt, maybe Hogs and a later pick?

(frank) him. He has a lot of nerve slithering his way back to the Canucks after demanding a trade and (frank)ing the team over with his 1 team list. Not to mention the way he leaked his trade demand which further complicated the situation.

It will be a lot more than Nil's b*tch to land you a top 4D under team control.

I think some teams put a premium on players they can put in the lineup right away over prospects that are years out. Hoglander had 24 goals last year, could be a good time to sell if the Canucks don't see him as a long-term fit

Add a 1st and a prospect. That will get you into a top 4D conversation.

From the Athletic:

The Canucks’ usage problem on defense

Spot the problem.

Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek
GF%: 63.1%
xGF%: 61.2%

Tyler Myers and Carson Soucy
GF%: 26.5%
xGF%: 42.0%

Erik Brannstrom and Vincent Desharnais
GF%: 86.7%
xGF%: 69.0%

Two pairs are working tremendously right now for the Canucks and the other isn’t. There’s a reason for the discrepancy and part of it comes down to usage. Myers and Soucy take on the team’s toughest minutes while also getting a much larger share of defensive zone starts. It’s a difficult role that helps the other two pairs flourish, but it’s clear the balance is off. If a team’s shutdown pair is getting outscored by a 3-to-1 margin while being badly out-chanced, it’s probably not working.

The Myers-Soucy pair is not working.

There’s hope there given how the duo looked last season with respectably mid numbers given their role. But their numbers look far from respectable right now. If the Canucks are set on keeping these pairs as constructed, a better balance with how each pair is used might be in order. Myers and Soucy are struggling under the burden while the other two pairs both look like they can take on more responsibility.

Honestly Mak I'm just so glad to be a part of the process here on HB with the 'retool' under Yorky's guidance. I think if we all give 110% here and are firing on all cylinders with a hard forecheck to the power of positivity here the team will for sure pick up on that vibe and play energized all the time. To be quite serious...I think this is a top 10 even a top 5 club for sure this season when fully healthy. Pettersson is easily a top 5 talent in the league and a total bargain at 11.6 mil. Understandably Petey should actually be making Draisaitl money TBH he is literally THAT good. Once Boeser Miller and Demko fully return healthy I totally see this club in the Conference finals this year. Let's go Canucks baby!!!!

I enjoyed the game, although the bit of pond hockey that was played at times is concerning.

Nice to see Pouty have a bit of jump

It's gonna really mess things up once Forbort comes back. They'll need to slot him in somewhere. But he's only played 4 games and will be miles behind. So there's another guy that's gonna need heavy sheltering for however long. The sad part is, there's a golden opportunity for someone to step up and earn some decent minutes. Yet nobody really has within the 8 plus depth Dmen we have between Abby and Van.

The person who's gonna step up is currently playing for another team.

I think the coaches need to give a little more weight to the other pairings, at least for now to let Soucy and Myers get some confidence back.
