Canes doesn't give up much real estate. Flyers went 15 minutes without a shot on goal?! They look extremely impotent.
Half of this team is of borderline NHL quality. Canes just having a fest. |

Seeler needs to play with a puck mover- playing with Johnson or Risto just does not work |

That 3rd period was a clinic by Carolina. Flyers got taken to the woodshed.
Since according to the coach they model their game after Carolina he has a nice game tape to teach from. |

Again back to back games where the opposing team has an obvious talent advantage. I wonder if Briere decides to trade more then 1 player at the deadline off the roster. |

Panthers also have:
- 1C (Drafted #2 OA)
- 1D (Drafted #1 OA)
- Elite goaltender (2 Vezina)
Then add all the high draft picks obtained through trades (some with their own high draft picks), smart trades, smart free agency, lucky waivers.
A team can have all the culture it wants, but without those high impact players it doesn't mean anything. - Glak18
Thats two core pieces that were drafted though and a Vezina FA goalie they landed. Ekblad isnt even considered Cream of the Crop in terms of top pair Dmen in the league. He's no Hughes or Makar. He's closer to Sanheim than those Dmen. A lot of the pieces FLA got that led to a cup win were from trades\Waivers. Verhaeghe, Reinhart, Forsling, Tkachuk, Bennet ect.
FLA has only 5 players on their roster they drafted. Flyers dont need to tank. It absolutely gives them a better chance at adding talent, assuming they pick the right players of course but you can build a team via FA and trade if you are smart. Whatever the case the Flyers need to commit to one method and not try to keep a foot in each pool which has kinda of been the big issue here.
Giroux's career was wasted because of poor decision regarding to adding talent, mostly goaltending and Dmen but the other aspect was Hextall was playing both sides. He moved Schenn but Kept the rest of the core. Schenn absolutely could have been a big piece that could have helped Philly. No Frost or Farabee but you get to keep Schenn around with Giroux and Voracek. No reason to add Hayes later on due to lack of C depth. If you think about it the Flyers go into 2018-19 with
JVR - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Couturier - Konecny
Lindblom - NoPa - Simmonds
Raffl - Laughton - Weise
Provorov - Gudas
Sanheim - Ghost
MacDonald - Hagg
Hart\Elliott\Neuvirth\Stolarz
Plenty there to work with. Maybe not a cup favourite but enough talent there to build around. If Hextall wanted to be competitive, he should have pushed to win now, if not he should have made more of an effort to rebuild. Voracek for example should have been moved. I can understand keeping Giroux the Captain but at least Voracek should have been moved as well.

York still being out is getting concerning. Practicing with contact, but still not playing. I just wonder if he is eventually headed for surgery and missing the season. |

It's a national game. Just blacked-out so the local market broadcast can broadcast to the local broadcast market. - Bendecko
What I meant was that the game was broadcasted on TNT for the rest of the nation while CSNBC Philly broadcasted for the Philly market only...
... in case there was any doubtcasted regarding my previously broadcasted comment quoted herein as I cast this comment into the electronic etherverse. |

York, Drysdale and Seeler (earlier this season) all hurt for extended periods. Are all three injury prone at this point?
I expect a bounce back against the Hawks on Saturday. |

Ekblad is a very good and underrated player. Bottom line is take away Barkov and the Panthers aren't a cup team. Take away Tkachuk and they're not a cup team. How was Tkachuk acquired? By trading Huberdeau and Weegar. Both of whom were drafted by Florida.
The idea that this Flyers franchise, under this management is going to build a cup contending team through trades and free agency is not a sound idea. It is extremely unlikely to happen. They have to focus on drafting and developing. The addition of Michkov should mark the start of their rebuild if they're smart. They're not smart and they certainly aren't on the level of Zito. |

I think Torts gets a bad rap on here much of the time. I'm not saying that he's even the right coach for this particular team, but his pressers are generally insightful when he isn't blinded by rage. Last night's presser was particularly so. He emphasized puck control in the neutral zone going into last night's game and it was like the gong show out there. Canes went up another gear in the 3rd period and the Flyers had no answer. Starting to get nervous about York. I mean, he's been a game time decision for several games now, and yet, no dice. Something is getting very fishy.
Frost is playing likes he doesn't want to sign an extension here, so Briere has to be shrewd with this one and get him outta here (prolly for another reclamation project).
Why do folks want that defenseman from Columbus? If he can't make that terrible roster why would he be welcomed here? Thanks!

Could you imagine how good the Panthers would be if the flyers traded The Room™ to them?

Loved Torts' comments after the game, the Flyers forwards are not good enough to skate through people, and the nuetral zone turnovers and lost faceoffs are killing this team. Carolina is a really good team but their weakness is in nets, and the Flyers couldn't even muster 20 shots on goal. The one goal the Flyers did score was a bad one, where Poehling put the puck on net and the goalie just missed it. Still the Flyers had several high danger chances that they once again could not finish. The Flyers need to get 35+ shots on goal to score 3 goals based on their shooting percentage, and there have been too many games this year where they can barely break 20 shots on goal. Its all about puck possession. Again not all faceoffs are created equal, and Couts loses the d-zone draw in the 3rd, loses Stall in front and Carolina takes the game away. Laughton and Poehling with bad nuetral zone turnovers that lead to Carolina goals. The center play on this team is just atrocious and I don't see it getting any better this season. The good news is Briere is fielding calls on Risto, so at some point before the deadline he will be moved for a good return; hopefully more picks in this coming draft. Same with Laughton. Happy Torts benched him for part of the game. The Flyers have got to get lucky at center and defense in this draft. I don't see anyone other way to turn this around. |

Well said. Frost is all fluff and no stuff. He's Sam Gagner, who will make a nice offensive play from time to time but will top out at 45 points. He's a player with a fragile mindset, and I don't see him being any more than he is right now.
Torts was spot on again last night in his presser. The media kept asking why the Flyers didn't try in the 3rd, when effort is not the problem with this team, they lack good centers and finishing skill. Another good game by Fedotov last night and the defense is holding on given the injuries back there. This loss is on the forwards. |
