lol the mental gymnastics here is outstanding. It was very cut and dry with you and 50 like posters. It wasn't any grey area. It was strictly Dubas sucks, core 4 doesn't work on forward and had to be changed. End of story. For literal years.

See why 50 hasn't responded to my post? Because he knows he was wrong. It's okay to admit when you're wrong.

EDIT: Since you and others are "realists" you can be real that the core 4 wasn't the problem the whole time

(isn't Keefe either since he's got the devils who missed the playoffs to first in conference)

I think this is because they are getting better goaltending then they did last year.

Leafs have gone 7-1 without Matthews and Marner has 14 points in those 7 games.

Yes, I know now he has to do that in the playoffs, just let me appreciate the run okay? Go (frank) yourself.

I don't mean to take away from what Keefe is doing, but the Devils have played 24 games. So they may be in 1st in their division, but they are 3rd in terms of winning percentage.

Still looking very good, though.

Which scenario is Leafiest: the Leafs get first seed in the East, play Boston in the first round and lose; or the Leafs make it to the 3rd round and lose to Sheldon Keefe's New Jersey Devils.

*each scenario could have its Leafiness supercharged by the Leafs having already traded Woll, Cowan and a 1st to Dubas for Crosby and Jarry.

Things are looking good...but is this really the time to call it a complete success?

Obviously, they need to do it in the playoffs. As for mental gymnastics, unless they win the cup THIS year, the core four era did not work. The core four era expires this year, with the expiration of JTs deal. Different cap structure going forward.
I really hope they DO win - go check my prediction on Wedgies thread. If it happens you can spike all over me. But they haven't won anything yet, so check your cellies for the time being.

My main issue all those years was Dubas. I said over and over that he mismanaged this team. There were a TON of Dubas defenders in here. In this, I have been proven right. He DID mismanage this team. Look at what Tree has been able to do.

But I'm really done with the bickering over all of this. I've taken a step back from this place purposely. I just want to watch the Leafs, and like the way the team is progressing. I said yesterday that Tree has done the unthinkable - he has united the fanbase. I really like the job he did this summer, and I'm more than willing to give him tons of credit for it.

If Minten wins 100% of his faceoffs and they dump in every won faceoff and then
change the line will do okay. It'll get eleven seconds of even ice time. That's more than you could boast about Reaves last year.

Brock Nelson?
Ya he would be great, but the Isles may need to retain which will cost even more than what would already be a high price tag for 6'4 center who has averaged 0.84ppg the past 4 years including this one.
He'd fit nicely on a 2nd or 3rd line for sure.

- Fakepartofme

Meh retaining 3M costs like a 4th, maybe a 3rd.

Great fit and worth the price if they can't get ROR.

Also I think Tre would be willing to deal Arty or Hildeby and we know Lou loves his goalie prospects.

Retaining $3m would probably be a mid to low 2nd or high to mid 3rd...on top of the cost to acquire a player

When is this ever the case?

It has never cost a team a 2nd round pick to retain around 3M in cap at the TDL.

A 3rd round pick at most.

If that 2nd round pick in the ROR trade was for retaining 3.5M they stole him from the Blues.

A general rule seems to be a 4th round pick for salary retention at the TDL. The amount in actual dollars is not significant unless a team is retaining 6-7M in cap.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but that low price would be for guys who are becoming UFAs, no?

O'Reilly has 2 years left after this year (although his cap hit is fine).

Kadri has 3 years left after this one (and $7M per is too damn high).

Marner has been in beast mode and usually does better without Matthews.
I remember so many thinking matthews propped him up.

Yes. I was talking expiring contracts.

I was talking Brock Nelson who is a UFA.

The trade with STL was

ROR(50% retained 3.75M)
Acciari

for

1st
2nd
3rd
2 contract throw ins

Wild retained 50% (1.85M) for a 4th round pick
