I will say again

50%(1.85 M)

4th round pick. And that is from a team that doesn't have any skin in the deal, strictly eating money.

Its literally what happened.

The Blues traded ROR to the Wild and retained 50% of his contract. The Wild then traded ROR to the Leafs and retained 50% of his contract. I even put the numbers in brackets so people like you wouldn't get confused.

It's gonna start at 200 for the pair of tickets in Toronto.

Marner has been in beast mode and usually does better without Matthews.
I remember so many thinking matthews propped him up.

- Fakepartofme

So why can’t he be this effective when Matthews is playing? I’m even more convinced now (and I’ve almost always felt this way) that Matthews and Marner should NOT play together.

Marner and JT have always had chemistry, play them together and AM with Willy. (frank) the entire concept that not playing with Matthews is demeaning or whatever.

Line 1 and line 2 for the Leafs very well could be a 1A and 1B thing. Do that!!!

What was his salary? $3.7 million? Can anyone else hear the goal posts being moved?

I know he's being condescending - but really here's what it was: St. Louis retained 50% of his $7.5m salary on the trade to Minnesota and Minnesota retained 50% of what was remaining (or 25% of his total $7.5m salary) for the 4th round pick. It left us with a $1.875m cap hit for O'Reilly.

The way they expressed it was off, but the maximum that a team can retain is 50% of the salary - but it's 50% of the salary they are responsible for, not the total contract.

So there's pedantry by fake that is accurate and some smug foot stomping by Santo that is also correct.

Bit of poetry in that last sentence, Monkey. (I’m watching the Leonard Cohen series and am temporarily a lover of poetry.)

I have to weigh in on this Wedge. That time when we went to that Buffalo game back in 2014 preseason... I was already half-sloshed and 18,000 sheets to the wind as if you already didn't know because you had to vouch for me after my 2nd intermission smoke because they almost weren't allowed to let me back into the ACC but I had to be all cool and buy a 355ml Canadian just like you even though I didn't need it but was still appalled at the fact that it was sixteen god-damned dollars. I mean, one could simply walk to the beer store like a few blocks away at Rees and Lakeshore and get a 473ml tall boy for only $2.20 at the time. (frank)ing markup.

Meh.

I'm not being critical. You're both right in the points you're making. There's no need to bicker about it.

dodgers sign Snell

they have 6 players making 27+ mil (if you count Ohtani at his real $$)
Jays have 1 - Vlad at 28

one of these teams has made the playoffs 12 years in a row and won 2 WS

Its ridiculous. They are video game team.
The Jays were 9th in payroll spending......they just arent getting bang for their buck.
Jays have 4 players making over 22m per year...so they have spent.
Poor in game coaching/gm decisions have cost them games and mismanagement in the season caused the poor results last year.

So far Kikuchi and Snell are off the boards.

Nope, not FA wise.
But only two teams have signed one free agent each, so its still early.
Waiting on Soto to Mets, yanks or washington first.

Hopefully they get some power in the line up this off season. Focusing on defensive players was a total borefest and failure. Also hope nobody gets fooled by the Jays meeting with Soto hype like they did ohtani.

What a hot mess...feel bad for Laine trying to get his career back on track. I think too much is going to be expected from a guy who hasn't played a game in almost a year who is trying get over on ice and off ice issues.
