Is there a video attached to the article?

Yeah, you're right, I just read the article originally.........then, figured out it may have been mentioned in the video.

No mention of "being cash strapped" ........ just want to unload a bad contract, and with no takers so far, perhaps a prospect is the way to go.

Why would a team with plenty of cap space and no financial issues want to move player from their AHL team so badly that they'd include a prospect just to get him out the door?

He's been deemed no longer part of the team's future, and want to get rid of him to free up a roster spot in Binghamton and his pro contract, so have the flexibility to to make further moves down the road.

Reducing expenses is a prudent managerial move as well.

Do you not reduce expenses and economize when you can?

Reducing expenses that will be gone in <2 years at the expense of giving up assets isn't exactly the most ideal plan... and it's not one a team that feels it's in a comfortable situation financially would do.

So they want him gone so bad they're going to open up 2 roster spots to get it done?

Points = good
No points = very bad
OT wins = good
SO wins = bad in respect to tie breaker
OT loss within conference = bad
OT loss out of conference = OK
SO loss within conference = bad
SO loss out of conference = OK

Yes, and that's why they want him to move on, and get him off their books.

nobody is questioning moving him.

It's including another asset that'd be dumb. Better off to just keep him buried until the end of next year.

They're not looking to trade him with a prospect because they're short on money.

They're looking to trade him with a prospect because they want to save money.
Because every team dumps prospects to move contracts, just to economize things.

Teams will try almost anything to move undesirable contracts off their books. Sometimes they throw in a late round pick, or a prospect.........or even take another bad contract off the hands of the other team.

Doesn't taking back a bad contract negate your supposed stance that they want to do it solely for the roster spot?

Can you find an example of a team "paying" someone to take a bad contrac out of the ahl?

Also, who do they want to free up a roster spot for on the AHL team?

The franchise is already devoid of valuable prospects, and we're talking about moving a prospect to get rid of Greening... For who? Who is fighting for a job on that team?

The Senators have not hidden the fact that they want to move Colin Greening, they've offered him around the league, put him on waivers, and now, apparently are willing to sweeten the pot with a prospect. Their motivation is probably a combination of saving a fer dollars, freeing up a roster spot, allowing Colin to move on to another organization.

As I said before, other teams have taken back another "bad contract" to bury it in their system just to get rid of a player with a handcuffing contract on their roster.

Some of you seem to think that the Senators financial viability are at a critical tipping point and the very future of their franchise hinges on getting rid of this contract.

This is not the case. As much as you'd like to see the only successful NHL team in Ontario be forced to relocate or fold.............don't hold your breath, and perhaps you'd be better off worrying about the diminishing value of the leafs, and the prospect of another NHL int he GTA if the league expands to further cut into the leafs share of the revenue pie in their backyard.

I don't think the Sens will fold.(though it wouldn't be the first time it's happened)

I just don't think they'll ever compete until they get a new owner.

willing to trade away futures to save a few bucks is just in line with everything Melnyk is known for.

How many times do the leafs have to change ownership, before they ever become competitive?

But at least there's the illusion of wanting to compete... and not dumping futures to save a few bucks.
