$5M cap hit while only paying out $3M though.

Perfect for the Sens.

But the sens aren't cheap, have money to spend if need be.

I think Brassard is the better player but don't you think the Sens should've considered not trading for him? Zibby is a really good player and he might end up being better. Again, not saying they should've kept him but they really should've considered keeping him because he could end up being the better player.

Ottawa gets older and not much if at all better and adds a 2nd?

I find it funny when teams trade young cheap players that are getting better for expensive 28 year-old veterans coming off career seasons.
- Tumbleweed

he's cheaper for 1 year and then becomes a RFA.

Rangers will end up having to commit 4-5 yrs @ $4-$5m

Brassard is an upgrade at the center position, will end up being cheaper over the next three season, and is a hometown boy.

Terrible trade for the Sens. Brassard is a little bit of an upgrade on Turris, but neither are really the caliber of player that contending teams use as first line centre.

Zibanejad always played on the periphery, and rarely went into the corner (on the fore-check) for the puck, because he shied away from the physical side of the game.

Great shot, but overall he played a "soft" game, and Brassard plays a much grittier style of game, and the Sens need players like him.

Will fit in well as the second line center, and Pageau move back to the third line (center) where he'll build on his great season last year where due to injury saw a lot of time as the second line center.

Why are you more concerned about salary than cap hit?

Well, I wouldn't say this makes them a worse team in the short run. They were nowhere near a contender with Zibanejad, and they're nowhere near one now. I'd say Brassard is a little bit of a better player right now, but just a little. It's another move from them that seems to suggest they're trying to make a run for it. But, a run for what? they're desperately trying to squeak into the playoffs, it seems to me.

I do'nt think Zibanejad was ever going to develop into a top notch player. But we KNOW at this point that Brassard won't.

Guy Bouchard coached both Brassard and Hoffman in junior. I think this trade has Bouchard's fingerprints all over it. I think he wants to build the best power play possible around Karlsson. Brassard (left shooting passer) and Hoffman are key pieces in that plan.

Short term Ottawa is better because of this trade. Long term I think Zibanejad still has a strong upside. But Dorion is very high on Colin White and Logan Brown and it could be that he does not see Zibanejad growing into the #1 role.

As frustrating as Zibanejad's puck management can be there are times that you think he can be an outstanding player.

Love the addition of Brassard another local player (like Pageau, Methot and Borwiecki). But sorry to see Zibanejad go.

Wow, Bouchard hasn't even coached a game yet, and Sens fans are already throwing him under the bus.

No, exact opposite. If it is Bouchard that wants Brassard I will likely feel more positive about the trade. Bouchard believes that team success can be built around special teams. Brassard will be a very good fit playing the wall on the power play.

Crazy talk.

Dorion has added Chris Kelly and Brassard. Clearly he wants a stronger veteran presence in the middle. Ottawa plans on building this team around Karlsson and making a run now.

Brassard 28 years old (will be 29 by season start) and had 58 points last year.

ZBad 23 years old (does not have next birthday until near end of season) and had 51 points last year.

Now tell us again, how do Sens fans and management misunderstand which is the better asset?

I just don't think it's fair to lump such a one sided trade on a guy who's only been there a few months. Pretty classless tbh.

Problem is you guys just don't understand how potent Karlsson is when combined with other players. My guess is that Brassard's numbers go up playing on the power play with Karlsson and Zibanejad's number decline. I like big players and I am not that happy giving up the big body. But Ottawa is a better hockey team today and their power play just improved a lot.
