The leafs traded away two picks, a first rounder & a second rounder, to acquire Frederik Andersen (older) and are now overpaying him (for five seasons) ........... was it to "win now"?

that was the point of accumulating 12+ draft picks so you can move some when you need to. They also still have 10 in 2017 and 2018

So when the Senators trade away a pick or prospect .... It's "bad" becasue "the owner is cheap" or they received "an older player in return"............. but when the leaf do it, it's okay.


When the Senators had not signed impending UFA Ryan, he was going to Philadelphia because the Senators "were too cheap" ............ but when they did sign him " they are overpaying him" ........ but when the leafs overpay Andersen, it's okay, because "goaltenders are weird".

they never should have traded for Bobby Ryan in the first place. It was a youth for vet trade for a team not ready to contend. It's already biting them in the ass, as the pieces they traded for Bobby Ryan, are better than Bobby Ryan, and cheaper. Next, yes, they were in a lose-lose situation, because he was a player towards the end of his prime, for a team many years away from being a top team, demanding a salary he's not worth. Yes, it's true, I thought he'd walk. Either way, the minute they traded for him, they cemented a notch in the loss column, because overpaying him, or letting him walk, both were bad endings for the Sens.

The Bobby Ryan trade is a textbook stupid move for a team that is supposed to be early/middle rebuilding.

that's the other thing - The Leafs have a few top/elite young players now on the team. They have a STOCKED system, and still have a boatload of picks to work with.

Unfortunately for you this effort is wasted. Leafs drafted 1st overall when these moves were made. So you'd have to be quite an ass hat to suggest the team picking 1st overall isn't rebuilding. You're not an ass hat. Are you? I'll just assume your post was a typo and you're not a (frank)ing idiot.

Nope, there have been a few that got there, and probably didn't belong.

Buffalo was just as lucky to be in the conference finals that year. Basically, the west had won it by the time the conference finals started.

The Sens were pretty lucky to get by even them though.
