Hey genius Phaneuf and Ryans contracts go longer than marleaus contract. So yeah cool meltdown with all the emoticons. You need a pacifier to go with your rattled.

You have no idea who will or won't be bought on the Sens. You fool. Your cheap owner can't even afford a pack of pocket lint.

- systemtool

WOW, right over your pointy little head.

The Marleau Contract is locked in at a $6.25 cap hit, and cannot be bought out, or he cannot be traded ............ unless he waives his NMC ..........

Both Phaneuf's and Ryan's contracts could be bought out, at some point in the future.

Ryan does not have a NMC, and could be traded to any other team ................. yes, it may have to be a partial salary retained deal, or taking back other contracts, but it is possible to trade him ........... yes Phaneuf would have to agree, like Marleau, to be traded ......

Why do you insist on comparing Apples to Oranges?

Accept the fact that the Marleau contract is what it is, a $6.25 Cap Hit for three years............. even if he decided to retire tomorrow, it does not go away.

Hey, dummy.........both Phaneuf's and Ryan's contracts could be bought out, and both players have a LNT clause that could allow them to be traded .................. Marleau's contract is buyout proof, and trade proof............... it's Cap hit cannot disappear, and will not ............. because Marleau is well over 35 years when the contact was signed.

- D0PPELGANGER

First...

It is not trade proof. How many times has this been done, even in the last few years. Do I think Marleau will retire and agree to let the contract be traded? No.
Do I think Marleau will be playing for the Leafs in that last year? Yes. Will he be worth it? No. Will it hurt the Leafs from signing the big 3? No.
The Cox article you love to reference to support your arguement is NOT about Marleau preventing the Leafs from signing the big 3. In fact, he likes the signing. Thanks for arguing against yourself.

The Sens don't have a big 3. So you have totally failed, again, to turn this into something negative for the Leafs.

Second...

Just some quick guesses at those buyouts you think will save you:

If those buyouts occur when Karlsson has to be signed
15 million (2/3 of 22.5) for Ryan over 6 years
8 million (2/3 of 12) for Phaneuf over 4 years. (actually higher I think)

4.5 million for the first 4 years and 2.5 million for 2 more years.

AND... you need to replace those guys.

AND... the Sens are a budget team.

You don't think that is a problem when trying to pay Karlsson?

what part of Phaneuf not being McDavid do you miss?

What part of signing a winger to an expensive $6.25M multi year contract ........ and expecting him to put the team over the top, like everyone of you trollonto fans thought was going to happen, when the leafs gave away 2 firsts and a second for Kessel............. how did that work out?

OK. Let's all Agree that Marleau will be playing all 3 years with the Leafs and will be overpaid.

What is your point?

If you think it means they can't sign Nylander, Matthews or Marner then you simply can't do math AND your article from Cox likes the signing as I quoted yesterday.

The Leafs are doign what they can to put themselves in the best position they can while not threatening any of their future. In fact, with more moves to come, they are likely improving the future also.

If you actually stick to facts, you won't be able to even begin to show otherwise.

Whoa you are way more rattled than I thought, bringing up Kessel. WTF?

The Sens kept Redden and let Chara go.
The Sens drafted Daigle 1st overall

Your constant attempts to deflect the discussion away from the hideous Marleau contract, is a sure sign that you know it's completely out of step with the "Shanaplan" and you know it is more of a negative, for the leafs, that it's a positve.

You desperately want to change the channel, to Karlsson, who has another 2 years on his contract, because you know it's futile to defend this ridiculous contract.

It's ridiculous for a number of reasons, and you know it ............

There is a LOT of water that has to go under the bridge, before the Karlsson contract is even relevant, and in a year from now, feel free to bring it up ............ but it does not change the Marleau contract .................. because you trollonto fans have harped on for over a year, about the terrible nature of Dion's contract, and now the same arguments you guys used, are turned around for you to defend ............ and it's hilarious to read the mental gymnastics you're using to make the Marleau contract into no big deal, when everyone knows it is ..........................

Wow you are right out of left field.

I doubt anyone seriously EXPECTS that Marleau puts the team over the top... especially when they are obviously hunting for at least 1 Dman.

They are trying to ice the best team they can without adversely affecting the future.

You have failed, miserably and continuously, to show how they have affected their future.

Even worse... you haven't even begun to address your own team's problems with the cap which are far more significant at the moment.

Yes, I constantly attempt to deflect the Marleau contract...

ESPECIALLY that part when I admitted he will be a Leaf for 3 years AND he is overpaid.

That sure is deflection.

Now your turn... show us all how it negatively affects the Leafs going forward.
and here is a hint for you... a Damien Cox article doesn't constitute proof. Especially when Cox likes the signing.

Speaking of deflection... your solution to multiple bad contracts is to buy them out or retain salary in a trade? The Sens?

Good luck signing Karlsson.

He is just all over the place.

It isn't just rattled, it is seriously (frank)ing disjointed, confused and they don't actually make a point.

You know those times when you think they finally realize how they have been thoroughly embarrassed and they disappear for days at a time...

I am starting to think that what really happened to them is that something shiny, like a gum wrapper or something, blew by their window and they went chasing it.

Hummmmm, lets see ....... Senators have more than $11 Million in Cap space available, as of today.

And the leafs are OVER the Cap by more than $3.9 Million.

who is the one that is not addressing their "teams problem with the cap"?

I'm not the best mathematician here, but please explain why you think the Senators more than $11M in cap space is " far more significant at the moment " than the leafs being over the Cap by more than $3.9M?????

Is this what is referred to as leafanomics?

Put it this way: do you think Marleau negatively impacts the Leafs' odds at a Cup? Does he (frank) up the salary cap in any way?

Nop. I would have spent that money differently, but they overpaid based on their situation with elc contracts. Not complicated.

I do want to stipulate that Bobby Ryan is a bad contract. I did not like it at the time. I do not like it now. They are going to need to pay the price and move it at some point.

Phaneuf, on the other hand, had an enormous playoff. Only Anderson and Karlsson played better.

The Leafs are now bringing in 3 guys each of them 6 years older than Phaneuf to provide the same kind of stability and leadership.

With the Sens cap situation and their wealth of young D needing playing time, a Dman had to go. It turned out to be Methot (same age as Phaneuf).

Leafs still need a reliable top 4 Dman.

The paradox is delicious.

I get that you hate the Leafs, and want to do nothing but troll... but we all know the Leafs can use LTIR to get under the cap once the season starts... so you're not making us feel anxious or anything.

Who are you trying to convince?

Why did Ottawa do everything they could to rid themselves of Phaneuf, after Methot was picked up?

Why wouldn't anyone take him?

I agree with you that Phaneuf is your second best dman. But at this point in his career, he's a 4/5 guy on a contending team.
