i have a feeling the sabres could take the sens or leafs spot in the playoffs this season. that team has a lot of talent most of it young. canes have the potential to steal a wild card spot but are likely a year or two away. blue jackets imo take a step back. something about them isnt right with me.

Oh I think you're right. Just because the two Ontario teams made the playoffs last spring, I don't think they're favourites to return to the playoffs.

Ottawa, for example, only made the playoffs by 4 points (I think) and with Karlsson missing in the neighbourhood of 10 games, it quite possible that alone will put their playoff aspirations in jeporady.

I am not sure how you sell to your fans or the team, that the team that took Pitt to game 7 is going to turn over 5 players.

I guess MacArthur and Methot are 2, but Burrows is back now and he wasn't there most of the playoffs?

After your thoughts about the defense, I am guessing maybe White (after he returns), and maybe one other. Chabot may get the 9 game look? if Karlsson doesn't start the season or they send him down and use the 9 games for callups?

Ottawa has a pretty veteran roster. Unless they are turning it all over, and clearly they aren't, there probably won't be many rookies on the team.

Agreed. Neither are a lock. Alot of things can go wrong for them while alot go right for other teams. cant wait for the season to start, bored of preseason already.

How do you figure? They tried desperately to move him this summer several times. They asked him to waive to be exposed in expansion draft and tried to trade him with salary retained and it was still goin get on cost thrm a prospect to move him.

Hossa has already had his independent medical examination. Lupul is next. I don't see much changing on Hossa or Lupul.

But, it is a clear signal that the league is going to become more engaged where there are abuses of the salary cap intent through the use of the LTIR.

Bettman has never liked Lamerello and the Leafs need to tread carefully.

I doubt it’d happen but I don’t think we should just assume that we’ve already seen the worst out of him. We have no way of knowing how deep the ineptitude goes. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s the right GM for Ottawa, but I think someone may have screwed up!

As far as Bettman not liking Lou or the Leafs, he better get used to kissing the ring, because Bettman needs the Leafs (unlike the Sens) much much more than the Leafs need him. They are a dynamic part of the NHL economy unlike Ottawa. Without the money making teams like the Leafs, Habs, Bruins, Hawks, Rangers - Ottawa may have an AHL franchise but not much else.

Before training camp started I thought six rookies had a shot at some regular season ice time. The forwards (in order of probability)

White
Brown
Chlapik

Dmen in order of probability

Harpur
Chabot
Englund

I notice that both Englund and Jaros have been sent down to the Belleville roster. Maybe Jaros moves ahead of Englund on possible call ups.

I think if the season starts today White is on injured reserve. Brown is on the main roster. Chlapik is assigned to Belleville.

Harpur and Chabot are on the roster opening night.
