Understand, you guys don't value pre-season. And, you believe going to the ECF was meaningless. I guess you will one day decide what you think is relevant.

It is my general observation that Leaf fans have been indifferent to all outcomes since the game 7 playoff collapse against the Bruins a few years ago. Since then many of you try to react with indifference to all outcomes. Most often you come across as cynical and bitter.

Now that the Leafs have a young, exciting team they deserve better fans than your indifferent attitudes. When is the last time you had fun and really enjoyed a hockey game.

If your singular purpose is to see your team win or, as I often hear some of you say, dominate another team than I wonder how much joy you really take from being a hockey fan.

I wish some of you guys would work on losing the bitterness. Hockey is for fun and I think some of you guys have lost sight of the fact it is a game.

Almost every single game last season. That's the type of game the Leafs play; exciting. You obviously wouldn't understand, considering the team you root for plays the trapest trap this side of the late 90's early 2000's New Jersey Devils.

ive given the sens respect several times for going to the ecf. but the goal isnt the ecf. its winning the cup. in toronto the jays and raps have made the final 4 two years in a row. while the run is exciting, it leaves an empty feeling when you fall short. and like the jays, the sens are getting older while the teams around them get younger and spend more to be better.

neither the jays or the raps are the envy of their leagues. much like the sens.

For sure. It's impressive. Only thing people here keep pointing out about it is that their path to the ECF was a fortunate one. And going forward, the same feat is highly improbable.

EDIT: Which is what Spazzo fails to understand.

well...its a fact the sens were the only team to give up more goals than they scored that lmade the playoffs. nothing wrong with a Cinderella run...as long as you dont expect to actually be better

Well done. I have always believed Matthews was the right pick for the Leafs.

I have been critical of Leaf fans that discount the potential of Laine having an even more spectacular career.

Frustration with Leaf fans is they continue to reason from a perspective of losers. It takes nothing away from Matthews to accept that Laine is a great young player. But, I suppose, when you constantly lose you get desperate to win. The comparison of Marrhews and Laine will continue this year. The debate should not be bitter. Comparing great young hockey players is great fun.

Remember it all has to be kept in the generational context that we know as McDavid.

Long time since hockey had so many great young players.

Last night on a TSN panel they wanted to discuss Canadian teams, specifically how would you rank them. The host wanted the discussion to focus on who is better Edmonton or Toronto. Gord Miller ruined the panel by saying Oil first Sens second.

You guys need to listen to how the insiders are shaping their comments. The best one last night is the Leafs have three really good defense men. And, the opposite of that is they have three defense men that are not.................

Gord Miller's key point was that the Senators had an unbelievable number of injuries last year. They had to constantly improvise around the injuries. So, there is good reason to believe that Senators are really more like the team we saw in the playoffs.

The other point Miller made was the Leafs had few injuries. Hard to imagine them not experiencing problems if a key forward or Dman goes down.

Mostly, I think TSN is just beginning to cover against a potential backlash from fans if Leafs struggle coming out of the gate.

We see it lots of time where the media over hypes expectations. If the Leafs have a bit of a fall back, it would not be unusual.

My assumption is that Leaf fans are much better able to handle that kind of situation than the media.

I don't think Chabot starts in Belleville. If he does, it is because of numbers and a need to move a Dman out. He has outplayed all the Dmen in camp. He has a presence and should be on the second pairing opening night.

Also likely Logan Brown centres 2nd line. He has been Sens leading scorer so far.

Pretty easy for you to go back and just read some of the comments on this thread. You might find words like garbage, poor character and other intended to demean Laine.

I was sort of honoured to be his defender against the onslot of criticism that came from Leaf fans.

As I have often said, Leafs picked the right player in Matthews. But, it was a tough choice. Laine is a great young player. Neither are McDavid.

I signed up very early on, mainly because I like to read the work Tyler Dellow does.
Since then they added several people I was reading already like Dom luszxhayszyn (spelling might be off) and Scott Wheeler. Obviously I like the stats heavy articles which I get there.

also now Cory Pronman is a writer..so now I can see his prospect ranking and such which I couldnt before when he was behind the espn insider paywall.

And since then they have added a ton of good talent, not your Steve Simmons trashy stuff

all that said it works for me, we all have different tastes in what we like but I think they have now added a bit for everyone if you like the articles with a story instead of a bunch of stats.

You're right. It is easy. I suggest you do that 'cause you're wrong. Again.

No one thought the Leafs would draft Laine because Matthews was and still is the obvious choice. Doesn't mean anyone thought that Laine wouldn't be a good player. Just that Matthews would be better and he had the bonus on top of it all in being a centre. Which the Leafs badly needed.

I think it is more than that. Some of the guys that are closer to the scene seem to be trying to wind down Leaf expectations. I think they are all aware of the potential backlash if Leafs stumble out of the gate.

I don't think any of it is wrong...just think they are being a bit more prudent.

Nobody will be surprised if the Leafs go through a slight regression. Every young team experiences rough patches and they won't creep up on teams this year. I suspect Marner might be candidate number #1 for this type of situation.

Overall they have a very deep team up front, however. If Andersen plays as well as he did last year they should compete for 1st place in the division imo.
