It seems to me that the hockey gods conspire against Leaf Nation. I can think of at least a half dozen games that the Leafs lost when they deserved to win. They deserve so much better considering the effort that they are putting out.

Wow! I didn't see it but getting 61 shots and losing once again has to add to the pile of agony for the 2009-10 season and the leafs.
4 wins and 18 losses but now on pace for 15 wins at least. |

But, if you watched last night's game and did not see the score you would have thought the Leafs were a playoff team, perhaps even a Cup contender.

Yeah to get 61 shots they must have been all over them. I certainly think they deserve a better record than they have from the games i've seen so far. |

It's tough to watch right now because they have outplayed so many of the teams they've lost to.
They do deserve a better record.
One thing that's driving me nuts is Wilson's obsession to make Toskala the #1 goalie. This guy folds like a cheap suit whever the pressure is on. And his mysterious "Injuries" are a concern. |

They are 0-2 against Ottawa and should have won both games.

I fear Toskala is the best we have. The other guy was badly exposed the sharks saw his weakness and I think there may be more blood in the water. He looked especially bad in the shoot out.

They certainly deserved to win the last game vs Ottawa. Ottawa played about 4 good minutes and pulled out the win. I don't remember the other game now though. |

The same thing happened haha.
Nobody can bury it, this is why Antropov was key last year, a big blocky forward infront of the net could always just finish those huge rebounds.

the leafs have 1 skill player, noone else can finish, who cares if you get 60 shots if you put them all at the goalies crest.
They don't deserve to win then either, they have no skill..just a bunch of pluggers and 3rd liners. Against Ottawa leclair did what good teams do, thier best players win the game for them. Thier #1 center is a 3rd/4th liner on most teams |

We have three players that can finish; Kessel, Hagman, and Ponikarovsky. After that it drops off. The main problem?
We don't have anyone who will stand in front of the net to mess with the opposing team's goaltender. That's why we can take 61 shots and only score 3 times.
Hopefully Hanson fixes that. |

Of the three only Kessel would be a top 3 forward on most teams in the NHL.............the other two would have a hard time breaking the top six on most teams.
This is not their year, more has to be done ( in the rebuilding process) in the off season, with 18 players in their last year of their contracts (becoming either UFA or RFA) trades and UFA signing or non re-signings, to put the leafs into the "challenging for a playoff seed" category during the 2010 / 2011 season.
Even that might be a little optimistic. |

They're both 25+ goal scorers...that would qualify as second liners on most teams. |

I'd say calling Poni a 25+ scorer is a stretch. He hasn't ever cracked the 25 mark, although he was on good pace for a couple seasons that he was injured. I'd go with a 20+ goal scorer for him, which is borderline top 6, probably more top 9 though. |

Yeah but Toskala's look even worse in the shootout. He was horrible in the shootout in Montreal. Gustavsson has played better than Toskala overall. |

pokahosky and hagman are 20 goal scorers on Toronto because they get top line playing time, on any team in the top 15 they are fringe 2nd liners..and get 10-15 goals...
I would trade poky and hagman for fisher and michalek in a heartbeat ... I am sure everyone else would too..that tells you all you need to know... oh and I will throw in toskala and stajan

That's not true. Hagman got a career year with a very good Stars team and both he and Ponikarovsky get second line minutes (avg. 16 minutes+ a night) |
