you don't know that, hes only 24, second getzlaf has had two great playoff runs, thornton has had zero. Getz almost beat detroit by himself, talk to their fans they fear him more than Crosby - FirstClass

So you dont think Getzlaf could ever win a hart trophy then? newsflash since crosby came into the league ovechkin and thornton have - FirstClass
No I think Getzlaf is a very, very outside shot at winning a Hart in his career. Ovie, Crosby and Malkin are all generational talent who are younger and already better than Getz. Great player but just not on their level. |

really, who almost won the hart last year? datsyuk
Whos one of the favorites this year? Gaborik
those three won't win it every year. |

Almost winning is not winning...
The trade deadline is when "favorites" can be determined.. not 25 games in...
Cool, but you also have Kovalchuk and Malkin and others who have a better chance at the Hart than Getzlaf. |

There's a reason that they have the Conn Smythe trophy-playoff results are irrelevant to the Hart. |

Jesus man, enough.
Getzlaf is good. Great even.
But Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Thornton, Gaborik.. these guys are a tier above. That's all there is to it. |

So, if you could choose at the beginning of the season: do you want your leading player to win the Hart or the Conn Smyth?

Way to not prove me wrong
you basically said crosby, ovy and malkin have the hart locked down, when dats almost won it last year.
seriously you clearly do not watch Getzy play much his skill is up there with the elite players and we KNOW he shows up in big games yet you think Joe and Kovy are better? seriously go watch ducks/sharks from last april, if you honestly think Joe is better then you are way more full of poop than me |

Id rather watch the whole last season where Ovechkin tore it up.. and the season before that when Crosby tore it up... and the season before that where Thornton tore it up... and yes, Joe is better. |

Stop yourself. Thornton's TEAM choked... didn't even choke. Ran into a good team that got healthy at the right time and took Detroit to seven games too.
I love Ryan Getzlaf. He's a top ten player in the NHL imo, but Thornton > Getzlaf. |

Does Getzlaf not play those same 14 non playoff teams? Oh right, they're in the same (frank)ing division... play the same teams the same number of times... |

I would take Getzlaf on the Leafs tomorrow. There is no player on the Leafs that comes even remotely close to being the force he can bring into any game. I am not sure what else needs to be said.

The Leafs have one top line player, and no top 6 centres. No poop you'd take him.. Granted I'd love him on the Canucks too, where we actually have two top 6 centres as it is, but as pointed out, that's not the debate.
And I'd also rather Getzlaf than Thornton, but that reason that FirstTroll gave was brutal. |

Leafs played a superb game. Really impressed by the speed through the neutral zone. It is possible that this team can get even better than it has been over the past few weeks. |

5-1-2 in their last 8 games...not bad at all. It was said before that the Leafs would have to balance their 0-7-4 start, with something like a 7-0-4 run to help put them back into playoff contention. 5-1-2 is not too far off right now, and now theyre only 6 points out. |

A real plus for the Leafs, aside from Kessel, is Beauchemin+ Komisarek playing like the Leafs expected when they signed them. Komisarek looked horrific the first 5-10 games, and Beauchemin looked horrible the first 15-20 games. Now both are playing very solid. The Leafs really missed Komisarek when he was injured.
I guess it just took them time to feel comfortable with their new team. |
