You have to admit that the younger version of the Leafs are entertaining and something that you can get enthusiastic about. I have said for a long time that Leaf fans would be patient with a proper rebuilding venture. Now if we only had a high draft choice.

The idea that Toronto is too impatient to rebuild is laughable. They'll sell-out no matter if it's a contending team, or a terrible team in re-build mode. Teams that lose attendance based on poor teams are who have to worry about rebuilding. The Leafs are safer than any NHL team in that regard.

Just gonna point out, the Leafs are right behind the Islanders now, and not too far off from the Blue jackets... two tams that have been struggling lately.

Hmmm...maybe we can convince the Jackets and Islanders to tank as well. I'm sure either Nash or Tavares wouldn't mind teammates like Hall or Seguin for next year

We usually do rise up the ranks a little bit after we've all but been mathematically eliminated so it's entirely possible.

Ya that definitely has more to do with the fact that they are based in the largest city in Canada rather than "uber loyal fans".

Look at the enormous ticket prices. You can't just claim it should be a slam-dunk that they sell-out every game. There are lots of big cities that don't sell-out.

The Leafs are they epitome of loyal fans. They proved that during the Harrold Ballard years.

Toronto has 3

And to answer you question, cities as big that don't sell out include Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles.

Four by my count...
NHL - Maple Leafs
NBA - Raptors
MLB - Blue Jays
MLS - TFC

You also have the Argos in the CFL with the potential for an NFL franchise.

The Leafs definitely get the vast majority of the coverage and support from the city but a lot of these other teams do pretty damn well.

Such as? If you say an American city, you lose.

Also I'm not sure how enormous ticket prices help your side of the argument whatsoever.

....? The demand is still so high because there are so many people that it drives ticket prices up. What does that have to do with your belief that the Leafs sell out because the fans are SO DAMNED LOYAL!!

If you were old enough to know the history of Harrold Ballard you wouldn't be saying this.

There is simply not a bigger example of fan loyalty than the Leafs during the 20+ years of Ballard ownership.

True! I completly forgot about the Jays.

LA and Boston have way more teams than TO.

Toronto (the city) is double the population of Dallas (the city).

There are big cities in the U.S that don't sell-out their supposed #1 sport.

Cities that are likely smaller, and hockey is bigger in Canada than baseball, football or basketball is in the US. The only cities which are comparable are Canadian cities, and the largest ones at that. Montreal and Vancouver to be even more specific.

What? Are you serious? Toronto is way bigger than both and I'm pretty sure even Vancouver has a much longer sell out streak than Toronto. You're just making crap up now.

As of February 13, 2008 here are the top 5.

1. Minnesota Wild - 274 games
2. Vancouver Canucks -202 games
3. Toronto Maple Leafs - 183 games
4. Calgary Flames - 155 games
5. Montreal Canadiens - 127 games

Probably much longer now.

My point is, good team or not, if there's a 20,000 capacity building to sell and with 5.5 million people in the GTA, that means 0.3% of the population has to feel like going to a hockey game to sell the building out. 0.3%, in a Canadian market. Yea. It's TOTALLY because of the HARDCORE WE DON'T CARE HOW BAD OUR TEAM IS super fans.
