You still forgot to update your favourite team settings... I guess subconsciously you know the Leafs are in a better position and want to be ready to jump back on the bandwagon at any moment.
In any case... Melnyk's more than likely just fine financially, and is happily milking the Sens and their 3rd highest broadcast revenues(source, btw?), for everything he can... in which case, I doubt he'll leave any time soon. - Feeling Glucky?
Be bought the team and the Arena at a bargain basement price, and over all is making tons of Cash (in Ottawa)...........however like many other owners, operated the team as a separate entity (Charging his team rent to play in his building) to show the NHLPA his tight margins and low HRRs.

I fear that may be true. Especially now that there is the rumor of expansion fees in the wind.
The total national broadcast fees are pretty easy to compute. Each team gets $5.5m from the NBC deal in the US. The new Rogers deal is more complicated. The contract is for $5.2b over 12 years. But the money is not shared equally among all teams. Canadian teams receive a premium in the form of an invasion fee consideration. The 7 Canadian team share 35% of the total annual payout (5% each of the $433m annual pay out). US teams get 2.8% each from the annual Rogers pay out. So, Canadian teams get roughly $19.5m each and US based teams get $12.5m from the Rogers deal.
Hard to get concrete information on regional and local broadcast revenue as it is of more local interest. Forbes has some data. Bloggers on HF boards have put some tables together as well. Including the newly signed contracts Montreal is far and away the biggest local earner with $61m in english and french language regional fees. Toronto is second at $41m (but Leafs are currently renegotiating new deal). Rangers are $35m, Ottawa is $30m. Islanders and New Jersey get around $27m each and Vancouver gets $25m. There are a bunch of teams around $20m like LA, Anahiem and Dallas. Almost every one of those teams are into long term deals lasting 10+ years (except for Leafs). And, some teams are locked into terrible deals like San Jose that gets $7m for the next 14 years.
When you do the adjustments for the Canadian dollar and for the invasion fees paid to Canadian teams the top tv revenue earners ($US) total are:
Montreal $87m
Toronto $67m (new deal coming)
Ottawa $56m
Rangers $54m
Vancouver $51m |

One of the reasons Ottawa's TV broadcasting numbers were up last season, was due to fewer Saturday night games and more than usual games played on Weekends during the day. read an article last season pointing out that they were generating more revenues broadcasting outside the HNIC time frame.
The lack of Saturday night Senator games did not go over to well with a lot of Senator fans, and Sports bars on Saturday nights.
Thought the Rangers would be much higher.
When you consider the Canucks are in the Pacific time zone, their revenues are quite impressive. |

Senators have a far better schedule this year. When asked about the improvement they gave credit to their new broadcaster (Bell Media, TSN, RDS) being able to get better scheduling for their games.
Senators hit a home run in their $400m over 12 year deal. After winning the Stanley Cup, the Kings (2nd largest US market) signed a deal that pays them $20m. per year.
Vancouver is a great market, ratings are through the roof. Despite what Bettman says hockey is a fringe sport on US television. On the other hand, Canadian viewership is incredibly deep.
Only a matter of time before Canadian TV money is going to start to make noise. Enough with players saying they want to avoid playing in the intense glare of Canadian media. |

I would imagine that Eugene is long gone before Turris. Perhaps not as long as Dion stays on his retirement contract with the Leafs. I guess they had no takers in their attempts to give him away this summer. Maybe they will have more luck trying to move Clarkson at the deadline. - spatso
Top 20 NHL D-Man easily.

What about rumours of Senator players? They seem to be likely to happen according to some the more anti Senator posters here.
From what I remember, Phaneuf's deal has a limited NTC that allows the leafs to trade him to one of twelve teams submitted to them by Phaneuf.
Dion Phaneuf has become the latest — and surely not the last — player rumoured to be on the move. According to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos, the Leafs are shopping their best defenceman who in January they re-signed to a seven-year, US$49-million extension.

I am doing it the opposite way this year. If Leafs make the playoffs I will switch back. |

Sens are horsepoop and going nowhere.
Unless you count Bobby Ryan. He's going somewhere alright.
- prock
Won't you look foolish when he signs with Ottawa.
He was saying a few days ago that playing in Philadelphia may not be to his liking, and he lives in Idaho now anyways, in the off-season, not his hometown in the Philly area.
But until he signs, or refuses and is traded then I'm not going to make a prediction on where the Senators finish in relationship to the leafs, and I don't see neither team a sure bet to make the playoffs either.
_________________________________________________
You keep talking about how Melnyk will pay for him, the Sens fans would boycott, etc, but seemingly ignore that they may offer him a contract, but it will require Bobby Ryan to actually want to sign it. - prock
Certainly nothing to replace Bobby Ryan in a tears time, and the continued decline of Jason Spezza. - prock
Why would he stay? There is no reason to stay. I put it at 90% he leaves.
Out of curiousity, how many games has it taken you to name Mark Stone capable of replacing Bobby Ryan? - prock
better city for one. Better team for two. Don't know about the rest.
Doesn't really matter. Kessel never stated he was going to test free agency, like Bobby Ryan has. - prock
Jsut like Alfredsson.
It's been reported, yes, but I'm not sure about direct quotes. Ducks fans have mentioned that there are in fact direct quotes, but I've never seen any.
All signs point to him going bye bye though. - prock

The question is, now that he got his big payday, how long until he gets fed up with melnyk`s cheapness, and requests a trade to a tread with a future? |

Well with a "big payday" I think he can afford to buy his own Winter tires, that have a tread with a future. |

If he's buying them from Eugene, they'll be fishing him out of the Rideau. |

it'd probably be easier to find him in the Canal.
If it was the river, he'd probably wash up somewhere after the thaw. |

FYI, they'd find him ON the Canal
Perhaps you've heard it freezes over, for the winter and people skate on the worlds largest outdoor rink. |
