The NHL has prevented its teams from selling their TV rights outside of teh local markets since 1985 according to Rick Westhead.
- burn
Why then do views in EASTERN Ontario receive ALL of Montreal's regionally broadcast games?
Is Eastern Ontario the Ottawa Senators region, of the Canadiens region?
Why is the NHL not enforcing what Rick Westhead. is reporting?? Maybe you should contact him and tell him Ottawa and Montreal are broadcasting their regional games into each other market.............and it's susposed to be prevented, and they've been doing it for over twenty years now.............surely the NHL must be informed about this and the two teams should be fined or suspended from the league or something.
Please explain why this has been allowed for so long.
OH, and stop confusing regionally broadcast games with nationally broadcasted games, it just makes you look more foolish each time you do it. |

I don't know how many times I've said the regional games are not available out of market.
I think you have a comprehension problem.
Am I susposed to be surprised when the odd game is broadcast Nationally.
There is no freaking way you, sitting in toronto, are going to receive ALL 82 Montreal games..............unless you've bought NHLCI.
Here in Ottawa we get ALL 82 Montreal games, both the National and the regional, because of the reciprocal deal Ottawa and Montreal have had for years now that cover regional games in each others markets.
What a freaking dough head you are. - Doppleganger
I don't know how many times I have to tell you that the league prohibits teams from selling their games out of market.
Also, you brought up Montreal being on and being able to see it in Ottawa, and then proceeded to post some nonsense about how rds and tsn regional games are blacked out. Just pointing out that your use of the Montreal game being on in Ottawa is useless as it was a national game, if does not fit your criteria you are discussing..... But you are too dense to understand it |

How am I confusing the regional and national broadcast you twit? You are the one that brought up a nationally broadcast game being on in Ottawa as proof.
This has to be an act. It just has to be. |

If you purchased NHL centre ice, yes you did. But you did not see it on RDS on regular cable.
FROM RDS
We have noted your inquiry regarding the interrupted signal affecting the broadcast of the Montreal Canadiens’ games on RDSfor viewers situated outside the team’s designated broadcast region.
RDS is no longer an NHL national rights holder – our new regional rights agreement with both the Habs + Sens limits us to their identified regional markets .
Of course, RDS wishes to offer the best service to all its subscribers, however, we have to respect the broadcast zone linked to the regional rigths granted by the NHL.
You reside in a market outside of this geographic area If you are receiving a message that the games are not available
These game black-outs are an NHL requirement which we must comply with and the black-out applies to all TV service providers in your market .
Anyone wanting to know more about the reasons why we must black out should be invited to contact the NHL
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by this situation and we thank you for your understanding.
NOTICE that the Canadiens "region" includes Eastern Ontario. This is becasue of the reciprocal deal that I've been talking about, between the Senators and Canadiens, that allow Senator regional games into the Montreal region too.
I've tried my best, but if you can't figure this out by now, you never will. - Doppleganger
Your own post proves you wrong. I really get a kick out of people trying to make a point and posting something that proves themselves wrong.
You reside in a market outside of this geographic area If you are receiving a message that the games are not available

- rsd is no longer nhl rights holder
- game blackouts are nhl requirement which we must comply with
- have to respect regional rights zone granted by the nhl
It's all right there in the post you provided.

I think this might have something to do with it..... From a link you posted.
You reside in a market outside of this geographic area If you are receiving a message that the games are not available
These game black-outs are an NHL requirement which we must comply with and the black-out applies to all TV service providers in your market .
This cannot be any more clear. The league sets the boundaries (from your own post) and the teams/broadcasters MUST COMPLY with those. - burn
Hey dough head, take a look at the map.
The green part includes Ottawa and eastern Ontario............because the Canadiens and Senators have a reciprocal agreement that ALLOWS each other games to be broadcast into each others NHL set regions.
And that is why I can see Canadien and Senator regional games in Ottawa and in Montreal on RDS2 or TVA if I was there, for whatever reason.
What part of this don't you understand GO to NHL.com and see for yourself.
the Tuesday the 28th regional Senator vs Columbus game can be seen in Montreal on RDS2. |

How on earth does one continue to act as you are with no proof?
"The nhl set the boundaries", "we as broadcasters must comply with league blackout rules", "the nhl has prohibited nhl teams from selling their games games outside if their region since 1985"
What part are you having difficulty with? You have proven over and over again you have no clue...... You used a notionally broadcast Habs game as proof , then said only could have watched it if on center ice, then said if would be blacked out if the leafs were playing. You have no clue.its hilarious that you accuse me of being confused regarding national/regional, and yet you are the one that brought it up as proof (incorrect as it is) of your stance and then proceeded to blather on about other excuses why it was on.

I can watch ALL 82 Montreal Canadiens games (regionally or Nationally broadcasted) this season, right here in Ottawa & anywhere within the Ottawa Senators NHL's designated broadcasting rights region (AKA Eastern Ontario) and have been able to do so for as far back as I remember.
You cannot do the same if you live within the leafs NHL's Designated broadcasting rights region........unless you pay for NHL CI.
If I lived in Montreal I could see ALL 82 Ottawa Senators games (regionally or Nationally broadcasted)
You cannot do the same if you live within the leafs NHL's Designated broadcasting rights region........unless you pay for NHL CI.
ALL the proof to back up what I've been trying to drill into your concrete cranium is right there on NHL.com, where you find the schedule of each team, and which TV broadcaster is carrying each and every game this season.
Or just take a look at all the regional games of both teams, who are BOTH carried on Sportnet East..............yes that's right, the Senators and Canadiens have the Same English language Regional carrier, along with the French language Regional carrier RDS...............thus insuring that ALL 82 games of each team are carried in each others NHL designated regional broadcast area.

Because the NHL said so?? They lay the boundaries.
"The NHL sets out the regional boundaries for each team, and we are bound by them"
"the NHL has refused to allow teams to sell their regional games outside of their market since 1985"
That is proof. the schedule on NHL.com is not proof of anything. Those viewers in eastern Ont(Bellville, Kingston, ect) get Leafs, Sens and Habs games because they are at the edge of of each regional territory. Overlap. Does this mean that the Leafs have some deal with the Habs??

The Schedule on NHL.com shows the broadcasters who are carrying each and every game brainiac
What a freaking dough head you are.
The leafs territory ends at Bellville, Kingston, ect, as you put it.
Viewers east of that line do not have access to leafs regional games as it is the Senators region.
The Senators and Canadiens share the same region as they made a deal years ago to allow each others regional games into each others region.
Freak you're stupid.

Viewer in Bellville, Kingston, ect get Habs games why? How? How do they get Leafs games in that area too?? Can you explain that?
Can you explain the quote from RDS from the link YOU posted that says "These game black-outs are an NHL requirement which we must comply with and the black-out applies to all TV service providers in your market".
The schedule is proof?? And you call others names, the irony is thick in here.

He brought it up as evidence that he was correct. It wasn't remotely close.
Why does eastern ont cities like Belleville get Ottawa Toronto and Montreal games? There has been no answer to that. He posted the schedule as evidence (2013 ) but it proves nothing. His own links he's posted have repeatedly contradicted what he's said. |

I have no idea, nor do I care. There aren't enough sens fans to fill their arena, let alone worry about broadcasting rights. I also don't think burn is the sharpest of knives. But in this case he's right, dopes has done nothing to back up any refusal on the part of mlse to allow sens broadcasting rights, past some fools assertion on another board. In fact, what he's posted is a better explanation, with better support, than what dopes has. |

No because the Senators and Canadiens agreed years ago to allow each others games in their respective markets, and by doing so end up sharing the same region.
It's NOT "whatever reason"
To think that another NHL team is still in another's region is just ludicrous.
Each team can bring in more revenue from advertisers, when they can bring more eyeballs to their broadcasts.
There are Canadiens fans in Eastern Ontario, and Senator fans in Western Quebec......so it's been a win win for over twenty years.
The leafs were offered the same deal, but decided to protect their market, and the NHL then decided to reduce the leafs region (prior to the Senators returning to the NHL in 1992 93) and gave Ottawa the Eastern Ontario region.
Since then there has been NO MORE regional leaf games allowed East of Belleville.
I've been listening leaf fans whining for over twenty years about how they can no longer see leafs regional games, or can't receive leafsTV in the Ottawa Senators region..........and the only way to see all leaf game is to buy NHL CI.

He's either a moron, or he's a just refusing to believe hard evidence, and just jerking me around.
All anyone has to do, when there is a Habs regional game on, just flip on their tv in toronto and see if they can receive it in toronto without NHL CI. I'll get it in Ottawa on RDS or SportsNet East or TSN5 or whatever.
And when there's a leaf regional game on, flip on your tv anywhere east of Belleville and you won't find it.[/img] |
