That strategy has worked well in the past for Murray. Murray has acquired some pretty good players, by acquiring them with at least a year or more on their contracts, so that they can come and play in Ottawa, see how the organizations operates and how living and working in Ottawa is.

Ottawa managed to attract an UFA this past summer, partially because he heard good things about the team and the City by playing with a former Senator for a few seasons and hearing how his experience was, when he was a Senator.

So why would you not try and make a trade in a fashion that was worked well in the past?

they need to move on from Chris Neil and Phillips.. they are not good anymore

I dont see how trading another 1st and some prospects is the right thing to do now. A middling team with an aging Starter.. Lehner is not looking like the next big thing anymore

Let's just hope they do it, and laugh if they do. Especially this years pick.

Maybe Franson for their 1st?

Edit: I mean if they were willing to trade a first for a 2nd line winger who wanted a huge contract, why wouldn't they do it for a 2nd pairing dman with absurd contract demands?

As dopes will point out, his contract Is fine this year, so you can't say he has an absurd contract. His long term, untradeable absurd contract starts next year.

I agree with you on Phillips and Neil, they're looking a little slow nowadays.

Lehner is another matter, I would not give up on a 23 year old goaltender, who won the Calder Cup and the Playoff MVP when he was a 19 year old................only two goaltenders have ever done that, and the other one is a pretty good starting goaltender at the age of 27.5 years old. Goaltenders take a little time to develop and the other guy who won the Calder Cup and the Playoff MVP when he was a 19 year old was almost shipped out of town, like you're suggesting the Senators do with Lehner...............so if you consider the Senators don't have another NHL ready Back up goaltender in their system, I think they should hold on to him.

He has had an injury to deal with this season, and became a parent for the first time back in December, and that throws a twist into his life too.

My Nephew is the next door neighbour of Kyle Turris, who also became a first time parent about 6 or seven months ago, and being a first time parent affects everything in you home life, especially your ability to get enough sleep, and it can catch up with you, as you may know.

Kessel is light years better than Bobby Ryan. 30 more points a year. way more goals. First line olympian (vs didn't make the team).

For under $1M extra?

If Kessel is overpaid, Bobby Ryan is overpaid by about 5mil (at $7M).

If the choice is $7M for a second line winger, or $8M for a first liner, you take the first liner, no questions asked.

The leafs went 1-11-1 in January of this year (and they scored just 16 goals in 13 games) , the worst January record since 1926.

It also ranks as the 2nd worst month in their teams' history since March of 1988, when their record was 1-12-0.

Don't think you can aim much lower than being rewarded with much more than the sixth or seventh pick, a 6.5% to 7.5% chance of winning the lottery.

Are you seriously banking on winning the first overall draft pick ( via lottery ) as the only means to improve the future of the leafs??

Getting an Elite prospect is what the leafs need at this point.
So get into the top 5 at the very least.

they are in the 7th spot with NJ 1 point behind with a game in hand (need a 3 point game from the Sens/NJ tonight) and Columbus is 3 points behind with 3 games in hand. So close to the 5th spot now.

I am not interested in another pick in the 8-14 range... must be top 5

I only see New Jersey and Columbus as teams that could be able to pass the leafs in the overall standings

24 toronto .471 P%
25 New Jersey .470 P%
26 Columbus .469 P%

I can't see any other teams being able to pass the leafs, so 26th is achievable for the leafs, giving them a 8.5% chance of winning the lottery..........and if they do (win the lottery) the collective orgasm from leaf nation, in toronto, would be felt as far away as Vancouver.

Do you feel proud that some loser points have you ahead in the standings, despite not being able to win as many games?

How do I feel about the Sens being marginally ahead on a few loser points, despite having less wins?

I couldn't care less. It's a mess of a team, with a garbage group of prospects, that is getting jacked up (still to a crappy place in the standings) by goaltending, no budget, no future, in such a waste of a city it can't convince it's own captains to stay.

Why would I care?

for someone who doesn't care, you sure do spend a lot of time obsessing over the sens.

The better question is how do you feel about the fact the leafs made the playoffs once in the last nine years but are still a basement team?

Better yet the sens have made the playoffs six of those nine seasons and despite drafting later are still a better team. The funny thing is your still stuck on the fact spezza and alfredsson left as vets during a rebuild lol

Great, made the playoffs 6 times, did nothing, and again, have no future, budget, impact players, decent city to live in, etc. lol

Why are people asking me how I feel then yapping about "you obsess" in the next post when I answer. You're really stupid, you know. (and yes, I realize that's not what you said, but you're pretty stupid for other reasons lol)

it's kind of hard to ignore you when the ONLY thing you ever post about is the sens.

i think you need help, you should maybe talk to a professional about this obsession and anger you feel.

m'eh, if i cheered for the biggest joke franchise in all of professional sports, i'd probably try to deflect attention away from the leafs too.

oh, and you don't even need to respond prock, i already know what you're gonna say.....budget, not a nice city, captain's left, etc, etc

it's okay, you keep telling yourself your team isn't a bigger joke than any other team in the league....and the rest of the hockey fans (including most leaf fans) will go on knowing the truth............THEY ARE THE BIGGEST JOKE
