stanley cup says ottawa senators on it.........multiple times. i think it's a sadder that the cup drought in toronto is almost as long as the one in ottawa, despite the fact that ottawa didn't have a team for 40-50 years. - sensarmy_11
yeah, for a different team. That moved to St. Louis. Won in different leagues. almost 100 years ago. And it's not 11 either. |

I don't, you do.
- bad team
- no championships, EVER
- no prospects
- no future
- no budget
- idiot owner who calls on forensic investigators
- employs a chubby trojan actor to do openings
- team captains flee because they know the team is going nowhere
- fanbase that can't fill it's own building, and gets mad when they get outnumbered for games against them (despite that it's possible they go bankrupt and move without those teams support, and should probably show gratitude to those fans for allowing them to have a team at all).
Shall I continue?

Nah, we have no trojan guy. We have our own cup banners. We have a budget. A better group of prospects. A better team (with more wins right now, btw). Not a great owner, but not a weirdo maniac. A world class city. Enough fans to fill a building.
Just say thank you, we let you keep your team, and move on your way. - prock
Please explain why both the president and general manager of the leafs, don't live in toronto?
They commute (during the season) in from NYC and New Hampshire, placate the fan-base with a few interviews once in a while, bow their heads in the private box after each leaf loss, and flee the city after the the final game of the regular season to be with their families.
What's wrong with the Ownership group that hires a president and general manager and are okay that they won't even commit to living in the city of the team they work for.
what a joke.

The Stanley Cup has been won, by teams representing their respective Cities, in different leagues since 1893.
Currently it is awarded to the NHL champion, but that does in any way negate previous winners, from previous leagues or the Cities they represented.
Who knows, perhaps one day it will be awarded in another league, with teams from around the world. It was first awarded in the "Challenge Cup Era", and then the "World Series" Era before it became the Cup awarded to the NHL Champion, and the City they played in.
The only thing that remains constant is the names of the Cities that are engraved on the Cup.
So whine all you want about other leagues, other franchises, it only matters to you, and will not erase the engravings on the Cup.
Ottawa HC won the Stanley Cup 10 straight times between 1903 and 1906 during the Challenge Cup Era
The Ottawa Senators won the Stanley Cup 5 times also in the during the Challenge Cup Era between 1909 and 1911.
During the the "World Series" Era the Ottawa Senators won the Stanley Cup 4 times between 1914 and 1924.
Once the Stanley Cup began to be awarded to the the NHL Champion, the Ottawa Senators won the Stanley Cup in 1927.
So in total the City of Ottawa has seen it's fair share of Stanley Cup winning teams, and has these teams engraved on the Cup for all to see..............even prock.

Was listening to Bob McCowen on Prime Time Sports yesterday............he's the one who was talking about it.
He also said that "a goat could coach this (leafs) team better" !!!!
Call him up and ask him if you don't believe me. Just telling you what he said yesterday. |

This is a good example of Toronto media spin.
Nonis lives in Toronto, his family lives in Boston, because he didn't want to uproot his son, who goes to high school there.
I'm not sure if that quote is his senility or yours.

the way talking heads like MCowan analyze the team is confusing
With RC - the players werent listening, didnt get the messsage. uncoachable etc..
With PH - the team is bad and a goat could coach them
they just pick an argument that suits the time of day and thats the opinion... sheep listen and that becomes the truth to them |

He was talking about the President (Shanahan) and the GM (Nonis), not the owners.
So you think that the President and GM of the leafs, not living in toronto is "stuff that doesn't matter"???
If I were the owner of the richest team in the league, that has the longest absence for the Stanley Cup finals of ALL current teams in the league, I would want these two people living and breathing the leafs in toronto 365 days a year to end this freaking circus.
Are they really committed to the leafs, if they won't even take up permanent residence, but see the job as the new flavour of the day ringmaster who will be replaced with another???
Nice try though

Did the previous GMs live in Toronto? I assume yes .. and how did that turn out? didnt help at all
it is completely meaningless and just more garbage spewed to pile on the heap by MSM.
What matters is who is in charge.. do they have the smarts and patience to steer the team in the right direction? I think they are currently building towards that yes. My concern is if they owners will let them do the Job.. that we will see
Since the sens have a single owner unlike the leafs... do you think it matters that the most important person in the org lives in the Barbados? |

The most important person in the Organization is the GM, and Murray lives here year round. The owner is the owner, he hires the Management people to run the team, and if the owners of the leafs don't think it's important for the President and the GM to live in the City they work in, then perhaps that shows you their level of commitment in putting an end to the longest drought of playing for the Stanley Cup in the finals, in the NHL of all current teams. |

How on earth does this even matter? The gm is off scouting a lot anyways, if he's "living" in the city he works in, then he's not doing his job.
And also, not sure how accurate this is anyways. The president and gm have been quite visible while they've been here. They're at games all the time, they are with the team on the road every now and then.
You got a list for any other gm/presidents other teams that don't "live in the city"? |

You don't think the owner, who determines how much money to spend on the team should have his pulse on the city, and the suffering of the fans he keeps short changing?
I mean, I get that it's a boring city and all, but you'd expect some level of dedication to the franchise he owns.
Like the type of dedication that has Dave Nonis living in Toronto, away from his family.

Well since the last time the Senators were in the Stanley Cup Finals (seven years ago) there have been some good moves to re-build the team, and some set backs with veterans choosing to leave or asking to leave.
But since playing in the Finals of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Senators have made the playoffs four times, winning one series..........while the leafs managed to make the playoffs once, and managed to grab a humiliating defeat from the jaws of victory, with 10 minutes to go in game seven.
Since the Senators were in the 2006 07 Stanley Cup finals, they've drafted very well, if fact 12 players drafted since the Senators were in the 2006 07 Stanley Cup finals, are currently on the Senators' roster.
So the re-build is ongoing, and Ottawa has one of the NHLs youngest rosters, and is improving with each game.

CLOSE THIS GOD DAMN THREAD DOWN PLEASE - Shutdown
This is Spatsos' thread, only he can ask to have it shutdown.
The only other way this thread drops out of existence, is when the "Agony" of the leafs has been ameliorated.
leaf fans could reduce their "Agony" here http://nhllotterysimulator.com/#/
I ran this 300 times, and the Senators won 19 times, the leafs 10 times. |

Ran it 31 times. Sens won 6 times, (frank)ing Minny won 3 times, Toronto won once.
It actually makes sense for the league to give it to Ottawa though. At least Toronto has some star players. |
