Ottawa named best place to live in Canada
toronto, Vancouver don't make top 10
By Derek Abma, Postmedia News March 20, 2012 12:19 PM
Ottawa has been named the best place in Canada to live for the third straight year by MoneySense magazine.
The publication cited the national capital's "cultural offerings and family-friendly lifestyle" as keys to its top ranking.
In an article posted online Tuesday, MoneySense added: "The city's residents enjoy high household and discretionary incomes, thanks to the large number of well-paying government jobs, which insulate it from some of the vagaries of the economy."
The Canadian rankings saw some notable movement this year.
Prairie cities such as Regina and Red Deer, Alta., cracked the top 10 — at fifth and ninth, respectively — thanks largely to their low unemployment rates and high income levels.
Halifax also saw a major movement — to fourth overall from 21st last year — cited for gains in population and employment.
Canada's biggest cities were not among the top-ranked places to live, according to this assessment.
Vancouver's ranking was 56th, down from 29th last year, as MoneySense noted the high cost of housing in the city. Toronto was 47th, while Montreal was 149th.
Rounding out the top 10 were: Burlington, Ont., at second: Kingston, Ont., at third; Brandon, Man., at sixth; Fredericton at seventh; Edmonton at eighth; and Winnipeg at 10th.
MoneySense said it relies on "hard measurable data," such as economic statistics, climate and crime rates, in compiling its rankings. - Doppleganger

Sorry but this is pure bull****
Most of the magazines put Vancouver in the best place to live in Canada. As well, I can't say that MTL would be ranked 149th in this list.
In the end, every magazines have their own ranking system. Look at an example

I don't care about any of those lists but Burlington being on that one list seemed funny to me. No offense to anyone who lives there but other than Hamilton it's probably the last largish city in Ontario I'd want to live. |

Regina is in the top 10 too. Pretty it's top 10 for per capita crime in the country so I'm not sure how that works. |

Moneysense magazine.
I'm assuming they are basing it on the cost of living, the job market and potential earnings. Probably has nothing to do with the city itself. |

Sorry there, chief. I was on vacation on a Caribbean cruise. Those of us educated people, the kind of people who have kids that can get into respectable schools, can do that.
I wouldn't expect you to understand. |
