they are beyond pathetic, ottawa has lost 13 out of 14 which is as bad as it gets and we are still somehow in front of the islanders. They are the comedy club with 0 future as long as the clown Garth snow is running the show.
it baffles me how they have fans after sucking for the past decade. |

i dont like the islanders either, but to say they have no future is stupid.
nino, okposo, JT, Hamonic, de haan.. and if kabanov finds his game, thats a steal in the 3rd round..

they have no future while garth snow is the GM, hell find a way to screw it all up like he does every year. Example: trade wieznewski for a 2nd when they finally find another defensemen that is good other than streit. |

Wiz wasn't going to re-sign, they offered an extension and he declined it. Something > nothing.
But please, since Garth "screws up everything", why don't you elaborate on some of his bad moves |

hes been there what 4-5 years and theyve been arguably worst every year. his drafting sucks i mean he traded down instead of picking luke schenn to pick bailey and just trades everyone for picks every year. |

The problem is they go against the grain and do their own thing every year, both in terms of drafting, trading, everything, and it never seems to work out for them. They just don't seem to be moving forward at anywhere near the pace they should be. They've missed the playoffs 11 out of the past 15 years. With those kind of results they should have some solid assets from the draft. Easily more than they have. |

no..a rebuild is what pitsburgh, chicago, washington, edmonton right now are doing.
Garth snow drafts like sh*t and then when they get older he trades them for more picks, it is a never ending cycle. Although on CBC they were blaming it all on Charles Wang so maybe it's him being way too involved. |

Back up your "Snow drafts like poop" with some facts. Pretty funny that Snow as been lauded for his good drafting but you say the exact opposite.
Snow's first draft was 2007, since then he's drafted Mark Katic, Travis Hamonic, both the Kirill's, Matt Donovan, Matt Martin, Kevin Poulin, Mikko Koskinen, and Casey Cizikas. And that's disregarding any 1st round picks. So you're really going to sit there and say that's "drafting like poop"? |

Well, first, most of his first round picks have done squat, despite starting with a pile of high picks. Second, none of these guys has accomplished all that much in the NHL, and some of them were drafted almost 4 years ago, so I'm not sure what's so special about that list at this point. Third, because of trades, he's had way more draft picks than other GMs to work with, so you should expect a longer list of prospects than most (and maybe even a few doing well in the NHL).
You probably can't conclusively say he's been a bad drafter at this point, but there is a lot more to say he has been pretty bad than there is to say he's done well. |

If only Garth traded 2 lottery picks and a high 2nd for Kessel like Burke then he'd be a mastermind |

What?? JT has done squat? Bailey ok, i'll give you that but he is only 21. Nino is 18 and in juniors so I'm not sure what you are expecting out of these guys at such a young age. Not every rookie is going to be AO or Crosby. Bottom line is its way too early to judge what he has done in the draft, but then again I wouldn't expect half of the people on here to use common sense when it comes to talking about the islanders |

JT definitely hasnt lived up to the hype.
Its too early to judge whether is good at drafting, but with their prospect pool as it is, its not looking too good. |

10 years? they need to start making an impact in the next 2. Sure they have a long list of prospects, but the list of good ones is pretty short. If you think your team is in good shape, then you'll be waiting another 10 years for the playoffs. - sens rock
Tavares 20 yrs old- Already making an impact
Hamonic 19 yrs old- Playing against the other teams top line every night and holding his own and then some
Nino 18 yrs old- playing in juniors and just a baby with huge upside
Poulin 20 yr old - Goalie playing up here due to injuries less then a year away from juniors and off to very good start and another player with huge upside
Bailey 21 yrs old- The only prospect who is behind the 8ball and needs improve
Okposo 22 yrs old- Missed most of the year but has the potential to score 25-30 goals a year and is a beast in every zone.
Petrov 22 yrs old- should be over from russia within a year or so. first rd talent taken in the 3rd rd because of his contract in russia
Kabonov 18 yrs old- Another 1st rd talent taken in the 3rd rd. Question marks about his maturity but loaded with talent.
I can 3 or 4 more of their prospects that have a big upside. I just don't understand how anybody who follows hockey can say that their prospect pool is weak???? It's mind boggling. I'm pretty sure if it wasn't the Islanders you would be singing a different tune about these kids. That's cool though we're use to it by now. |

they are rated 17th by hockeysfuture.
Other than Tavares they don't have a top line talent. Nino has the potential to be. Kabanov likely wont see the nhl. petrov either. |

Ill add too, NYI is like edmonton. They need to draft extremely well to be and stay competitive because players just simply dont want to sign there. NYI hasnt drafted well enough to have the star players needed for them to be a consistent playoff team. |

Well done on deflecting and ignoring the post. You asked how all that made for a bad drafter. I answered.
And by the way, trading draft picks away, or picking them up, is besides the point. We're talking about the talent they pick up with the picks they have. And that list is entirely unimpressive, especially considering the number of picks he's had to work with. |

Notice I said MOST of.....
It's not too early to judge. It may be too early to judge conclusively, but if you start to look around the league, at what every teams draft picks since 2007 have done in the NHL, you'll start to find that the Isles are behind many, if not the majority, of teams.
Oh, and pointing out Tavares, a first overall, who STILL hasn't fared as well as other players in his draft, is a joke. |

It was easily predictable too. Weak skater. Below par skating is a very difficult thing to overcome in the NHL. In my opinion, and I've said this since before he was even drafted, Duchene is, and always will be, the better player. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player... But he'll never make it into the NHL elite, in my opinion. He'll be your 80 point guy, 90 at most in a couple of his seasons, his entire career.
