I didn't say it, genius....

Poor guy eh. I feel sorry for him. He's so embarrassed that he has to hide his team. The worst ran franchise in sport history....God I actually don't blame him.

Only a leaf fan would measure the teams success in the last 40 years by how many times they made the playoffs vrs how far they have gone. Prock has to though because thats the only way he can find the edge and the edge is by one friken season....

We were an expansion team and came into the league and made a final after 11 seasons...and you are still waiting for a final after 43.....

Hodgson made the Canucks last year eventually....so why do you keep saying he's in the AHL? No wonder you keep talking better stats...he was absent from the Moose for the majority of the season. Thi is just like the way you measure playoff success.... He'll be here after the preseason as well....stfu!

The Leafs are the worst run franchise, it's been reported by Sports Writers across the world. MLSE couldn't run a Tim Hortons franchise, and most Toronto fans know this. Except you of course, you think they are doing a stand up job.

What are your thoughts on Kevin Connauton, Nucks fans? I haven't heard anything of him in awhile. How did he do in Manitoba last year?

He was great on the PP. He needs to work on his defensive game but definitly has offence, size, grit and decent mobilty. His project this year is about decisions. I think he'll get a good look next season maybe.

He's a long ways away from the pro game. It's doubtful he gets any looks next season as the Canucks already will have at least 6 better defensemen under contract, likely more. If he ever makes the club it will probably be 2 or 3 seasons from now.

Schroeder more prepared to showcase his game

While other NHL clubs let him tumble in the first round because of size concerns, the Canucks snapped up scoring forward Jordan Schroeder based on pedigree at 22nd overall at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

After an underwhelming NHL training camp a year ago and rough first year as a pro with the Manitoba Moose, Schroeder, 20, feels he’s ready to validate the Canucks’ faith in him.

“I learned a lot this past year about what it takes and all the hard work you have to put in on and off the ice,” said Schroeder on Friday at Rogers Arena, as the Canucks prospects reported for physical testing prior to heading to Penticton for a tournament with four other NHL treams’ prospects that begins Sunday and goes through Thursday.

“It’s a big jump from college to pro. The amount of games and being able to keep your body nutritioned well, things you have to play close attention to. It’s more mental than anything else.”

Small, at 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds, but highly skilled, Schroeder had a strong first taste of the pro game when he joined the Manitoba Moose after his college season finished in 2010. He scored 4-5-9 in 11 games and then added 3-3-6 in six playoff games – including a hat-trick.

Schroeder scored a highlight reel goal in an early preseason game, snapping one into the top corner, but was scoreless in three prospect tournament games. He was abruptly shipped to the AHL Moose early in the NHL preseason.

The message from Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault was clear: Schroeder still has a lot of work to do on his game.

“I think he needs to work on quite a few things,” Vigneault said at the time. “He is a guy who has got skill, has got speed, but he has to use it more at both ends of the rink. He’ll become a better offensive player once he learns to track the puck quicker, get back quicker, create those turnovers and then use his speed to go on the counter-attack.”

Schroeder had a slow start with the Moose but was starting to score by December when he suffered a high ankle sprain that sidelined him for six weeks. He finished the season with 10 goals and 28 points in 61 games.

A scorer at every level he’s played at – he played on three U.S. world junior teams and was a WCHA rookie of the year while at University of Minnesota — Schroeder was frustrated he couldn’t find his game.

“Sure, I wanted to go in there and try to dominate and it obviously didn’t happen,” he said. “You’re wondering what’s going wrong. Why am I not scoring or producing points? I think I found something out this past year and over the summer about what I need to do to produce more and be more effective.”

He knows he needs to work on parts of his game to become a NHL player.

“My game definitely has to change,” said Schroeder, who also ramped up his conditioning this summer. “I want to keep setting up plays and scoring, but I know I’ve got to add other aspects – winning one on one battles, going into the corners, going into the dirty areas.

“I’m looking forward to this camp.”

They say you are what you eat and that's a big reason why Cody Hodgson feels he's as ready as he can be to challenge for a Canucks roster spot this season.

Hodgson, the Canucks first-round pick (10th overall) in 2008, struggled with back issues the two previous summers. But after connecting with fitness guru and ex-NHL player Gary Roberts in the spring of last year the back problems began to get sorted out. This summer was his first full go-round with Roberts and his holistic approach to training.

Roberts believes that training must be accompanied by body care such as yoga or massage and good nutrition.

The diet stresses organic foods and has the likes of goat's milk, kale, quinoa, brown rice, almonds, coconut and fresh fruits that include goji berries.

“I try to stick to it as close as possible,” said Hodgson, following an informal workout at UBC on Thursday. “It just makes me feel more energized and clean. It's a good feeling to feel healthy and strong and that type of food is the fuel that makes that happen.

“Even the desserts that he makes us, it's all healthy stuff. It's good for you to eat it. It's kind of funny to think about it, but we're eating avocado with cacao mixed in. It tastes amazing but it's actually going to help your body recover after a good workout.”

Hodgson, 21, has been an elite player almost from the time he started playing minor hockey, so he's always tried to eat well, but Roberts' regimen has taken it to the next level.

“I've always tried to eat as healthy as possible, but you really don't know until you've tried this kind of stuff and stuck with it for a few weeks,” said Hodgson. “Then you start to see the benefits of it. It's a different level. I'm eating stuff that I couldn't even pronounce – like quinoa and goji berries.”

Hodgson said he's already been to Whole Foods here to stock up on the necessary comestibles after arriving on the weekend from Toronto to get ready for training camp. He says it will be easier to stay on the diet in Vancouver than it was in Winnipeg last season, where he spent most of the season with the Manitoba Moose.

“It was tough to follow it last year (in Winnipeg) because it was hard to find some of that stuff in season,” he said. “But here and in Toronto there are so many organic places around, it's so much easier to find that stuff and follow the diet.”

The six-foot forward has put on five pounds of muscle from last season – to 195 pounds – and is feeling the benefits of two solid months of training with Roberts, along with about 40 other NHL and minor-professional players at the North York facility.

Hodgson, who trained with the same group as Canucks teammate Chris Tanev, arrived at the facility before 7 a.m. and worked out for three to four hours, six days a week.

“Everything was there,” said Hodgson. “We had our meals there, there was a massage therapist if you needed it.

“The training is great, there's three trainers in the gym with seven guys so it's really personalized training. But the biggest thing is probably the rest and recovery. Eating organic and treating your body right away from the gym.”

Can you give me ONE source that considers how franchises from multiple sports on multiple continents are run, and ranks the leafs as the worst? That is a wild statement that really needs some serious substantiating.

There's opinion, and then there's fact. Don't be ashamed that you have an opinion, but don't try to pass it off as fact.

Yeah I don't think we'll have scoring problems top to bottom in the go-ahead. The D would have to have looked outstanding (not to mention Roy) for me to feel super confident of the future though. They looked passable playing in a lopsided game. I want to see them in a dogfight.

Although I won't mind watching 7-6 oiler wins a couple years down the road, I think they might end up giving me a heart attack before they win the cup.

I'm not reading to much into that game. We did see some positives though. You are right, if the Oiler prospects would have been blown out people would be questioning our drafting. That Archibald (spelling?) Kid sure looked good for you guys.

Good. I've always liked the kid. I hope to see the explosiveness he brought to the WHL in the NHL one day, but preferably for the Sharks
