I think you've got it wrong. There is no lack of depth. There is lots of depth. Its a number one guy they're missing. Grabs is a great number two. Bozak is a solid third liner, could pass as a second in a pinch. But shouldn't be playing first. Connolly similar. Lombardi great depth centre. Obvious injury issues there though. Colborne should be good for a depth role next year. Lots of depth.

If he finds a first line centre somewhere, shift Bozak to third line, then there is connolly, lombardi and Colborne to fill in the rest. More than enough.

How do you think Burke will address this need for a true #1 center? And who would you target if you were GM?

ThePresident already established yesterday that Stastny and Parise will be with the Leafs next season.

Try to keep up, thanks.

Edit: All they have to do is dump Komisarek, Armstrong, Lombardi and Connoly. It's that simple.

Now c'mon, you're being sinister. How could they ever win another game without Armstrong? THINK.

hmmm.. Haven't checked their record with him in the lineup this season.
But I'm thinking it must be positive.

FYI, those are all Doppeldouche posts from last year, when he was claiming that the Binghamton Sens being better than the Marlies clearly showed that their prospects were leaps and bounds ahead of the Leafs prospects. I've taken the posts, word for word, and reversed Leafs and Sens wherever they came up.

So yeah, I realize they're idiotic posts. They're just not mine.

I stated that the fact that Binghamton's success in the AHL last season was an indication that Ottawa's pool of prospects were not as terrible as you were insinuating.

You were of the belief that toronto's pool of prospects was "miles and miles ahead" of the the Senators prospects (last season).

You claimed that any success at the AHL that Binghamton was having was due to older "lifetime AHLers" and you insisted that winning the Calder Cups was no big deal and would not benefit the Senators.

Surprise surprise, the Senators are now in the playoffs, with SEVEN Calder Cup champions on the their roster.

Toronto has a full roster of players who are young, and have done reasonably well at the NHL level.

Ottawa does not. They're junk. Total, total crap. With a sprinkle of geriatrics on their last leg.

what makes you think Ottawa isn't as bad as I "hoped"?

- prock

Alfredsson is on his "last legs"???

It's hysterical how hard it is for Sens fans to admit that their team is absolutely horrid.
- prock

It was hysterical how hard it is for leaf fan like your self, to admit that you team has not made any progress since Burke was hired.

There you go. There's the proof. You think Ottawa is better than they are. they don't stand a chance of being anything but last.... by a distance... in the Northeast.
- prock

Wow, your "proof" was pretty weak, and you must have missed something when Senators fans were posting all season long that the Sens were not as terrible as you wished they were.

Sure. Tell that to the Sens fan, who seems to think the Leafs aren't any better at this point.

There aren't many teams in the NHL that even stand a shot at finishing below the Sens. For whatever reason.

- prock

Man, for someone who trys to come off as knowledgeable about teams in the NHL, your obvious "blind spot" (total hatred of the Senators) has come back to smack you right in your self righteous face time and time again.

do you really think the Sens are going to continue winning, and be a playoff team?
- prock

Yes, but why don't you?

This is what you said:

I would suggest that the Senators AHL team is a reflection on who may have a better group of prospects (at all positions) if you are comparing the two teams in Ontario.

- doppledouche

One can only logically assume that you now believe that the Marlies being among the best teams in the AHL, and the BSens being abyssmal MUST be a reflection that the Leafs have a better group of prospects (at all positions) when comparing the teams.

Its what YOU said.

Keep in mind many of the Sens former prospects who won the Calder Cup have made the jump to the NHL and are in part responsible for their surprise season. Of course there would be an immediate vaccum on their AHL roster while the Marlies have a group of guys who cant even make the jump to one of the worst NHL teams but collectively can be competitive in a less competitive league.

Case in point. The most recent crop of Sens prospects have already made the jump and left the AHL behind them, while the Leafs seem to spin their wheels for the past 7 years with no prospects really making a difference in the NHL which is obviously the ultimate goal. Being great in the AHL means poop if the result doesn't translate to the real league.

Let's not forget that I was referencing the two "pools of prospects" but, as you know, not all (of a NHL teams) prospects are in the AHL.

Last years AHL Champions had a fair number of the Ottawa prospects on the Binghamton roster, and it was evident that their contribution to the Calder Cup run was a major part of the reason they won the Cup.

Had you watched ANY of those games (broadcast on SportNet) you might have seen that.

But perhaps now that you see SEVEN of these (former) prospects now contributing to the Senators success, eight if you want to include Lehner's three "wins" for the Senators, you may want to admit that last year's Binghamton Senators had more NHL ready "prospects" than you gave them credit for.

As for this year, Ottawa's top prospects are either in Sweden or still in Junior. It should come as no surprise that when you remove seven players from an AHL roster and place them in the NHL, the AHL team will suffer.

As for the prospects on the marlies, I don't know enough to say one way or another.

That is the difference between me and you.

I understand that a leaf fan is more likely to be up to speed on the contributions of legitimate NHL prospects are having with an AHL teams success.

That is why I would deffer to you or someone who knows more about that team, than what I could possibly glean from the stats and game accounts.

This is precisely why I rebutted you last year when you totally dismissed what I brought to your attention is regards to the Binghamton Senators.

I guess it boils down to the semantics of what you define as a prospect. Many of the Sens young players are making a meaningful impact at the NHL level right now. To go Apples to Apples when comparing an organizations prospect depth one cannot simply draw from the AHL alone.

Gotta say, I've never been a fan of Murray in Ottawa, but he made some bold moves and some good trades to quickly retool both their NHL and AHL team. And the results, so far, are paying off quickly.

Solid scouting and having the nerve to trial and error some coaches until he truly got the guy he wanted. The owner deserves some mad props for being a patient man in a Canadian, results now marketplace.

Indeed, credit where it's due.
