You might want to read a little closer. Doppeldouche CLAIMED they would be second by Hockey News, quoting a radio program that he listens to. I responded saying that's probably just more Ottawa media pumping up the Sens, and it's probably BS, and they will have dropped. He responded saying when it comes out I'll look like an idiot. they were 5th. He looks like an idiot.
The Hockeysfuture ranking is old, and gets redone in a month or so, I believe. They won't be second there either. They'll drop. - prock
Of course they will drop, a great number of their "prospects" are everyday NHLers now contributing to a playoff team. |

I don't even think it's a question that the Sens will drop in the rankings. My only question is how far. - prock
Sens will absolutely drop - our prospects have graduated into NHL players. The Leafs will do the same next year or the year after when THEIR prospects graduate. Not only is a predictable and repeating cycle, it's a topic that barely requires discussion.
As for the Sens being called "2nd" on the radio, I'd heard them say (on Team 1200) that the Sens had the 2nd most players in the top 75. Some may have interpreted that differently than I would have. Not sure exactly WHO looks like an idiot over that one... |

Yes, I'm aware of the reasons why. Graduating prospects, trading them away for nothing.
Its blatantly obvious. Which only makes it more ridiculous that doppeldouche so adamantly argued it, and told me I'd look like an idiot when the rankings came out and the Sens were second. |

Its not the misinterpretation that makes him look like an idiot. When I replied that I'd be very surprised if that were the case, he replied that I'd look like an idiot when they cvame out and the sens were second.

Pretty impressive crop they had tho eh? that were able to win the Calder Cup and then make the jump to the NHL, taking it by storm to turn the franchise back into a playoff sqaud. Very solid player development don't you think? |

Meh. They've played very well.
But honestly, so many vet players in career years, so many injury prone players staying healthy all year. Do you think it happens again?
This could very well just hold them a year back, with a lower first, no second rounder, one less prospect for a b level young player.
Do you think this is best for the team in the long run? Honestly? |

Having all their young players get a taste of playoff experience behind a rejuvenated core of solid vets? Yeah, I think thats a positive thing. Its about having a culture and the confidence of a winner and building from there. |

Playoff experience for the young crop/future core, a few extra shekels in the pocket for the team owner, and a hell of an enjoyable year for the fans - who knows what's going to happen in the future... |

I'd worry about your own team if I were you. They're quite possibly the biggest mess in the NHL right now. |

There are pros and cons for sure. But they have nowhere near the combination of young players and prospects needed to truly contend. They're pulling out of the rebuild and trading picks and prospects for players very early, don't you think? |

The mess in Montreal is overexaggerated IMO. Its no quick fix mind you and the new GM and new coach will have to be a wise decision, but they have some nice pieces. I wouldn't be surprsed if they had a season next year similar to the one Ottawa had this season.

Didn't they load up on more picks last year at the deadline? Fisher and Kelly got dealt... Its a game of give and take, you cant just bank on stockpiling picks and yu cant just deal away all of your future. You have to walk that fine line. They are being a pretty good job of that IMO. |

I agree with this, playoff experience in the NHL will be invaluable for the young core and only adds to what they learned by winning the Calder last season..
Teams have to learn how to win at this level, every successful teams goes through the learning process, the younger they do it the better. |

They did, they had something like 6 picks in the 1st two rounds, they traded 2 1sts to move up and take Matt Puempel after they drafted Zibanejad at 6th and Stefan Noeson at 21st |

They have 3 very solid pieces and It starts in goal, Price will always give them a chance. As much as I dislike Subban the kid is talented, he just needs to mature and he will be fine. Pacioretty had a break out season with 30 goals...

Yeah, I agree, I always said they had to get rid of one of Heatley or Spezza before they could build a better team (Spezza would have been my choice though). They were forced into it, and it worked for them. Granted, I figured after they did it there would be a bad year or two before any noticeable improvement was made. I didn't expect it to happen this quickly.
If they can trade Spezza off for some good pieces, they'd probably be even better off. - prock
Good thing it was Heatley, and NOT Spezza. |

This year. the last two, the opposite could be said. Funny how you wait until now to try this.
So, Spezza, one out of 3. So far. |
