Burke could've (and should've) fired him 1-2 years ago. - daeth
Regardless, he did now. And realistically, there is no way they shouldn't have made the playoffs.
There are a few teams with less of a roster still playing hockey right now. |

I remember when the Habs called up Subban and he was thrown in the fire, right into the playoffs.
He played his best hockey. - Pecafan Fan
True enough. He was much more used to North American hockey/North American rink sizes than Silfverberg though.
Also depending on how tomorrow's game goes Silfverberg's first NHL game ever might be a playoff elimination game. Hopefully the Sens win tomorrow night though. |

Either way, if he plays Monday it's an elimination game... would he be fighting for survival or first-round glory, that's the question. |

Panthers comes to mind too. Some decent D, but...
What phoenix is doing with THAT roster is nothing short of incredible. |

Now that Portland's season is done, they've called up Rundblad, so look for him to lead them to at least the Conference finals. |

Asking a kid to play his first NHL games in the crucial part of an NHL series is asking a lot. Then there's the jetlag and the fact that he's probably (and deservedly) partying right now.
On the other hand it doesn't hurt to have him over because if the Sens advance it'd probably be easier for him to adapt to the NHL and maybe get into some games, and if not (*knock on wood*) then he'd still be able to go back for the WHCs. - Asquaredx2
I'm thinking that Paul MacLean will consider Daugavins to replace Winchester in the line up tonight. There was been some talk about Hoffman though, so he could also be a possibility.
When Jakob Silfverberg arrive in Ottawa Sunday, I kinda agree with you that it would hard to insert him into the NHL playoffs with little or no real experience with the NA style of game. If there's anyone more "NHL ready" it's Hoffman or even a long shot like Stone before Silfverberg.

Stone no longer a long shot. Looks like he is in for tonight based on reports from morning skate and press conference. |

And yet, if you don't have a top team, even on paper, you'll never be a contender. |

I don't think Carolina or Tampa cared much that they weren't considered contenders because of their paper roster when they won cups.

If he does, he'll become only the twelfth teenager ever to have his first NHL game be a playoff game. The others were...........
Gary Leeman
Bob Halkidis
Dan Vincelette
Troy Crowder
Daniel Marois
Gaye Stewart
Rod Brind'Amour
Mike Modano
Jarome Iginla
Gerry Couture

The Sens are still the bottom feeding crap of the division. the Leafs? Miles and miles better. - prock

tampa had a very thin roster after their top players.
carolina's starting goaltender going into the playoffs was gerber with ward as a rookie as his backup.
while they had decent regular seasons i dont think many analysts took them to be condenters for the cup. |

and then sens and panthers have finished ahead of the leafs in 2 of those 3 years. |

didn't he also say it would be a disgrace if any team in the northeast finished below the sens? |

No its not. The sens don't measure up with anyone. They'll be fifth barring a disaster of epic proportions by another team. They're the worst in the division at every position. - prock[/quote]

The yotes are quite clearly doing what they're doing based on a solid defensive system. Their roster is incredibly unimpressive.
Its not like there was a huge difference between the 08/09 roster, that was a basement dweller for quite some time, and the 09/10 roster, that put up 110 points.
Where would you the say the difference came from? And now that they've dumped turris they're breaking through that first round barrier. |
