Of course because they're two organizations people didn't talk about. I don't really find the trade was made into that big of a deal, considering it involved the Leafs. - RogerRoeper
Then you should be comfortable with the explanation that the Leafs acquired depth and Nashville was able to dump salary.

No one's ever said Poile wasn't a good GM. I personally believe him to be among the best in the league. Top 3, along with Holland and LouLam.
- prock
Loulam had Brodeur. When Broduer faltered, we got to see the state of the rest of the team. Brodeur made up for a lot of mistakes and a pretty mediocre in front of him at times. |

Sorry bud, I don't think so. There are only a couple of youngster Dmen in the league I would personally trade Schenn for, and Myers is one of them (Doughty being the other). - prock
Doughty I'd trade for, no questions asked, Myers though... No |

Again you are making the mistake of a fan observer. You want to look at a deal in isolation as it relates to the team you follow. From Nashville's perspective the deal is pretty straight forward. They are able to move out Lombardi because they have Fisher. They move out Franson and they are able to move up their top prospect Jonathon Blum. They are a much better team with Fisher and Blum than with Lombardi and Franson.
It is easy to understand that Nashville is better because of the deal. But, how much better are the Leafs to add two more players that are very similar to what they already have on their roster? - spatso
Nope.
Fisher has nothing to do with it. It was all about the uninsured contract and uncertainty of Lombardi's health.
Subtracting a 30 pts dman who scored 8 goals for a rookie doesn't instantly make them better. Can they be?? Sure. But are they undoubtedly better? Absolutely not.
It's not easy to see how Nashville is better because they aren't... they have to show it. The LEafs on the other hand are replacing Lebda and Brent/Boyce/Crabb. The guys the leafs losta nd replaced with make them better. |

Agreed. I thought he was a pretty decent pick, wonder if he'll amount to anything. |

A couple years ago, he was a high end #1 defenseman. I don't know if he'll get it back, but it's not THAT laughable to think that a player with such early success could find his groove again. - Morris
he's shown signs of re-finding his game...and even if his offense doesn't come back, his defensive game has improved massively from his Calgary days. |

phaneufs 1st half last year.... left alot to be desired
his 2nd half if he played like that all year i would have been fine with it. He is a top 3 defencman on most if not all teams. I think he was playing injured 1st half of the year.
Im excited to see what he can do this year if hes healthy all year |

he was wearing a knee brace. The improvement in his play(and increase in his shooting%) coincides perfectly with the brace being removed. |

nope. Schenn destroys him defensively and physically, all Myers has on him is the offense side of things, and we have other guys to deal with that... and Myers wasn't even that great offensively last year, probably just a sophomore slump though. - Schenn-Sational!
So now that Myers has been signed long term extension for an average $5,5 MILLION per season (highest Dman on Roster once extension kicks in), I suspect that if, as you suggest, Schenn is better than Myers, surely he'll be signed to a much more lucrative contract (extension) right?
Because that's not what I'm hearing. |

Shutdown dmen almost always have lower salaries than guys who put up points anyway. |

Suppressed premises:
A) Everyone's salary is precisely commensurate to their level of play.
B) The Salary that one team gives a player is the exact same as the Salary that any other team would give that player.
C) Myers was given "fair value". |

My forecast two week ago was that Schenn will finally sign a deal between $4.2 to $4.8m. for around 5 years. Lots of people said that was way too high. Looking more reasonable today.

So, Phaneuf is one of the top-5 dmen in the league? |

That's still a little high. I see him getting 3.5 million per. |

All things considered if Burke did the deal for $3.5m for 5 years it is a good deal for the Leafs.

Was not announced until this morning, as far as I know.
In any case, the Market has spoken anf it seems that Schenn, his agent and the leafs don't see Schenn as being a "comparable" to Myers.
BTW, when asked to rank five young defense men this morning on Team 1200, Pierre McGuire ranked them as follows.
Doughty
Myers
Subban
Karlsson
Schenn
All great young players, some have a different skill sets than others, but players any team would want on their roster. |

But Karlsson's +/- is terrible, he can't be good.
Pierre also said Schenn was a franchise Dman.
And the link to the signing was posted directly above your comment |

Looks like Schenn signed for 3.6 million per for 5 years. |
